INSTALLATION MAINTENANCE SUPPLY CD-PLAYER AND DISC MAINTENANCE — The lens (¥) (fig 5) should never be cleaned. Batteries — The lens may steam up when the set 1s taken from a cold Whenever convenient, use AC mains supply if you want to conserve battery life. e Open the battery compartment (fig. 2). e Insert as indicated eight (preferably Alkaline) batteries, type R20, UM1 or D-cells. e Remove the batteries if exhausted or if they will not be used again for a long period. The battery supply is switched off when the set is connected to the mains. When changing over to battery supply, pull out the plug from the AC MAINS socket @. Mains e Check if the mains voltage as shown on the type plate corresponds to your local mains supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service organisation. If the set is equipped with a voltage selector 63 VOLTAGE, set this selector to the local mains voltage. e Connect the mains lead to the AC MAINS socket € and the wall socket. The mains supply is now switched on. ® To disconnect the set from the mains completely, withdraw the mains plug from the wall socket. Important note for users in U.K.: When fitting a mams plug to the mains lead proceed as follows: The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Blue —Neutral, Brown = Live. These colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, so proceed as follows: Connect the Brown wire to the temunal marked Lor coloured Red. Connect tha Blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured Black. No connection 1s necessary to the earth terminal. Note This apparatus must be protected by a 3 Amp Fuse fa 13 Amp plugs used or, if any other type of plugis used, by a 5 Amp Fuse either in the plug or adapter or at the distnbution board. if in doubt consult a qualified electncian. Playing a disc is not possible then Do not clean the lens, but let the set acchmatize for a while. — Always pick up the disc by the edge and put it back in its box immediately after use. — To remove dirt from a disc, breathe on the disc first and wipe it off in a straight line from centre to edge using a soft, lint-free cloth. The use of cleaning agents may harm the disc CASSETTE DECK MAINTENANCE Clean the parts indicated in fig.8 after every 50 hours of operation or, on average, once a month e Open the cassette holder by pressing EJECT M. e Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning fluid. e Press PLAY } and clean the rubber pressure roller ©) (fig. 8). e Then press PAUSE IE and clean erase head @. recording/playback head 6) and capstan ©. e After cleaning, press STOP m. Cleaning of the heads (3) and 6) can also be done by playing the cleaning cassette SBC 114 through once as an ordinary cassette. Remarks — The mechanisms of the CD-player and the cassette deck are fitted with self-lubricating bearings and therefore must not be oiled or greased. —~ Fingerprints, dust and dirt on the apparatus can be removed using a soft, clean and slightly damp leather cloth. Do not use any cleanirg agents which contain abrasives or solvents such as benzine thinner, alcohol, refined petrol or ammonia, since they may affect and harm the cabinet. —~ Do not expose the set, batteries, discs or cassettes to rain or moisture, or, for any greatlength oftime, to excessive heat from heating equipment or direct sunshine, e'g. in cars parked in the sun. — Keep the set, the discs and the cassettes away from sand and do not store the cassettes too close to magnets, loudspeakers or transformers. RADIO RADIO RECEPTION PREFERRED TRANSMITTERS - PRESET e Switch on the set with POWER switch G3. e Set the MODE selector (5) to RADIO. e Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME (3) and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER (9) and the DBB bass button ©. e Selectthe wave band using the BAND SELECTOR button. The radio display 4) shows the selected wave band "FM, 'MW (Medium Wave), LW (Long Wave) or SW (Short Wave) and the frequency in 'MHz' (for FM and SW) or 'kHz' (for MW and LW). (SW and LW not on all versions). For FM, pull out the telescopic aerial. To improve FM-reception, incline and turn the aenal (fig. 3a). Reduce its length if the FM-signal is too strong (very close to a transmitter). For AM/MW and LW (Medium and Long Wave), the setis provided with a built-in aerial, so there is no need to use the telescopic aerial. The aerial can be directed by tuming the whole set (fig. 3b). For Short Wave (SW), the telescopic aerial must be pulled out and placed in the vertical position. To improve SW-reception, vary the length of the aerial. e Tune automatically, manually or by means of the PRESET- buttons 4} to a radio station. Automatic tuning e Keep the FREQUENCY button «€ or > pressed until the displayed frequency keeps on changing; then release the button. The receiver stops when finding a strong transmitter. e If the transmitter found is not the desired one, simply repeat this operation. Manual tuning Manual tuning is useful when you already know the frequency of the desired transmitter (e.g. from your pro- gramme guide). e Keep the FREQUENCY button «€ or > pressed until you approach the required frequency. e Then release the FREQUENCY button and press it again quickly and briefly: then the displayed frequency stops. e Then press FREQUENCY «dor > briefiy each time. In this way the frequency is changed step-by-step until finally the right frequency has been reached. One step is 0.05 MHz (50 kHz) on FM, 9 or 10 kHz on MW, 1 kHz on LW and 5 kHz on SW, e When the word STEREO appears in the radio display 4, you are receiving a FM-stereo transmitter. A disturbing noise, due to a weak FM-stereo signal, can be suppressed by pressing the STEREO button once. The word STEREO will then disappear and you will hear (and record) the FM programme in mono. e The radio retums to STEREO when operating: the STEREO button; the FREQUENCY > buttons; the PRESET €» buttons; the BAND SELECTOR button; the MODE selector (5). e Always switch off the set after use with POWER switch (3. = оне неее —— om --- You can to store the frequencies of up to 20 transmitters in the memory. The 20 PRESET memory locations ('0'...'19) are shown on the right-hand side of the radio display @. Storing transmitter frequencies 1. Select the desired wave band using the BAND SELEC- TOR button. Using the FREQUENCY «> buttons, tune either auto- matically or manually to the frequency to be stored. Programme guides often contain a list of transmitter frequencies. If the frequency shown has already been stored, its PRESET location (0'..19”) appears on the right-hand side of the radio display (3. . if you want to store the frequency shown, press the STORE button; the word PROG appears on the display (0. . Now, select the desired PRESET location (0'...19) by pressing one of the PRESET buttons <> until the required PRESET number appears on the display. . Then press the STORE button again; the word PROG disappears and the frequency 15 now stored in the memory.. 2. e A stored frequency is only erased from the memory by storing another frequency in its place. e The contents of the memory will be kept, also if the power supply is interrupted. Tuning to a preselected transmitter e Set the MODE selector 6) to RADIO. e Select the desired PRESET location ('0'..19') using the PRESET buttons <». e Always switch off the set after use with POWER switch (3. COMPACT DISC PLAYING A DISC INTROSCAN e Switch on the set with POWER switch (3. e Set MODE selector 6) to CD (Compact Disc). e Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME (@ and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER @) and the DBB bass button ©. e Press CD A (3) to open the disc cover. e Fit the disc, label side facing up, over the spindie of the tumtable (fig. 4). e Close the cover. The CD-player starts arid'-- —:-- appears on the display as a sign that the CD-player is scanning the contents list of the disc. After that, the total playing time and the number of tracks present on the disc appears on the display and the CD-player stops. e Playback will start by pressing PLAY >. As soon as playback starts, the display shows the track number 1 and the elapsed playing time of the 1st title. When the 274 title is reached the track number 2 appears, etc. e For brief interruptions, press PAUSE 00. The word PAUSE then appears. To continue playback, press PAUSE again. e The CD player goes to positon STOP: ~ by pressing STOP O orCD AG), — when the end of the disc is reached; = « you move the MODE selector (3); — if you switch off the set with POWER switch (3; — if the batteries run down or if the power supply is interrupted in another way. e lo take out the disc, open the disc cover by pressing CD a ®. e Always switch off the set after use with POWER switch (3. Remarks — The CD-playeris able to play the normal 12 cm disc as well as the small 8 cm disc 'CD-single". An adapter ring for 8 cm CD-singles is not required. — If the battery voltage is not sufficient any more for playing a disc, the CD-player will not start. ~ if the display shows the character 'E' for ERROR, the CD-player cannot read the disc. Possible causes are: — vou inserted the disc the wrong way (the label should face up); — the surface of the disc is badly scratched or dirty, see "Maintenance"; — the lens (A) (fig. 5) is steamed up because of a sudden transition from a cold into a warm environment; do not clean the lens, but let the set acclimatize for a while. The INTROSCAN {function can be switched on both from the STOP O and the PLAY E> position. ® Press INTROSCAN. The word SCAN then appears. Only the first few seconds of each track on the disc are played, but always from the 1%t track number. After playing a few seconds of one track, the CD player jumps to the next track. The display always shows the corresponding track number. e The moment that you press PLAY E>, the INTROSCAN function is defeated (the word SCAN disappears) and the disc is played in the normal way from this track number, e li you press Plorid , the INTROSCAN function remains operative and the beginning of the next D or previous K track is played for a few seconds. e If the INTROSCAN function 1S not defeated by pressing PLAY E or STOP ai, then the CD player automatically returns to STOP as soon as the end of the disc 1s reached REPEAT If you want to repeat the whole disc (or the stored selection) continuously, press the REPEAT-button the word REPEAT appears on the display. The REPEAT function can only be switched on dunng PLAY [> or INTROSCAN. To defeat the REPEAT-function, press REPEAT agamn and the word REPEAT disappears. COMPACT DISC — em a = ts mri de 0e ск ar НН = — —— = - -— == —a — SEARCHIS - MM PROGRAMMING TRACK NUMBERS These buttons have three different functions: 1. Press briefly (less than 1 second) during PLAY or INTROSCAN Di - go to the next track (title) You can jump to the next title by pressing D! once. The next track number appears on display, playback is interrupted and the next track is played. if you want to skip more than one track, then press Pi more than once until the display shows the desired track number, E - go to the previous track (title) if you want to repeat the running title from the beginning, press 1 once: playback is interrupted and the same track is played from the beginning. If you want to repeat one of the previous titles, press IA more than once until the display shows the required track number. 2. Keep pressed (longer than 1 second) for search during PLAY In this way, the disc is played at high speed in the forward Pl or backward E direction. The sound is reproduced partly and at high speed, however, itis still recognizable. In this way you canlocate rapidly a certain passage within a track. Keep the button DI (search forward) or 4 (search backward) pressed until you recognize the required passage. Then release the button: the disc will be played back in the normal way from this passage. if the button is pressed longer than 10 seconds, the search speed increases automatically. 3. When programming: press briefly (less than 1 se- cond) When programming - in position STOP O with a disc inserted - you can select the desired track numbers using KM and Pl You may select a number of tracks and store these in the memory in the desired sequence. When playing, you will only hear the stored titles in the selected sequence. At most, 26 tracks can be stored in the memory. You may store each track more than once. Manual selecting e Load the disc, but do not press PLAY E> yet. e Selectthe desired track using the buttons & and Pl until the display shows the required track number. e Store this track by pressing STORE. e Select and store in this way all desired titles. Storing during INTROSCAN e Press INTROSCAN to play the first few seconds of each track. e Press STORE as soon as you recognize a desired title. Storing during PLAY e During normal PLAY you may store the running title by pressing STORE. — After pressing STORE the character 'Р' (PROGRAM) appears, indicating that the track has been stored. — Store all desired titles in the required sequence. You may store each track more than once. — At most, 26 tracks can be stored in the memory. When the memory is full, the character 'F (FULL) appears. — When pressing MEMORY, the display will show in sequen- ce all stored track numbers, - You can simply erase the whole memory by pressing CLEAR: the character 'C’ for CLEAR appears now. The contents of the memory are also erased: — by opening the disc cover using CD A (3); — if you move the MODE selector ©); — if you switch off the set with POWER switch (3; — if the batteries get exhausted or if the power supply is interrupted in another way. How to play the stored selection To play your selection, the CD-player should be in position STOP; then press PLAY >: now, the word MEMORY appears. CASSETTE PLAYBACK COMPACT CASSETTES Playback on deck A or B During playback, the tape in the other deck should notbe fast forward wound or rewound, othenvise the actual cassette playback is affected. e Switch on the set with POWER switch (3. e Set MODE selector (5) to TAPE. e For playback on deck B, set REVERSE button => to: x. (released) for non-stop playback (continuous reverse): deck B reverses the play direction whenever reaching the end of the cassette; æ (pressed) to play both cassette sides once (single reverse): P»»STOP. So, deck B stops at the end of play direction 4. The indicators G3 show the actual deck B play direction. You can reverse the play direction at any moment by pressing DIRECTION <>». e Press EJECT M and insert a recorded cassette (fig. 6). For playback, any cassette type can be inserted. ® Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME (3) and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER @) and the DBB bass button ®. e Press PLAY Y» and playback will start. On deck B, you car reverse the play direction at any moment by pressing DIRECTION <». e To stop playback, press STOP NH. When the end of the tape is reached, the recorder buttons are released (except for non-stop play on deck B). e Always switch off the set after use with POWER switch (3. Continuous play on deck A+B Deck B plays both cassette sides (D»=STOP) and at the end of the cassette deck A will start playing (P»STOP). e Switch on the set using POWER switch (3. e Set MODE selector 6) to TAPE. e Setthe deck B REVERSE button <> to … (pressed)to play both cassette sides once (>»<»STOP). e Press both EJECT buttons E and insert a recorded cassette into each deck (fig. 6). For playback, any cassette type can be inserted. e Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME (3) and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER ©) and the DEB bass button (6). e Press on deck B PLAY } and playback will start. e After that, press on deck A PAUSE 11 and PLAY ». As soon as deck B stops (at the end of play direction € or when STOP M is pressed), deck A will start playing back. e To stop playback, press STOP m. e Always switch off the set after use with POWER switch 63. For recording, use only NORMAL cassettes (femc oxide, [EC I). For playback, any cassette type can be inserted. SAFEGUARDING A CASSETTE AGAINST ERASURE Keep the cassette side to be safeguarded in front of you (fig. 7) and break out the left tab. Now, recording on this side is no longer possible, You can render this safeguard ineffective by covenng the aperture with a piece of adhesive tape. CASSETTE RECORDING (on deck A only) Recording from the built-in microphone (2 — During recording, the deck B buttons should not be pressed (except for PLAY » during dubbing). — When copying (DUBBING), itis recommended to use fresh batteries or to connect the set to the mains. e Press EJECT M to open the cassette holder, e Insert the cassette into deck A (fig. 6).
