¤ System Requirements.

The PC system must meet the following specifications:

● Pentium 200MHz or greater

● Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP

● 40MB of available hard disk space

● CD-ROM drive

(double speed or greater)

● USB port (2.0) supported

● VGA graphic

- Install the operating system in Administrator Account

(main user) for Windows 2000 or XP.

Otherwise, installation will not be completed.

- Windows ME, 2000 and XP can recognize the driver without installing the provided program. However, you must install the program in order to format the player and upgrade firmware.

- If the YP-C1 program has not been installed in

Windows 98, then it will not communicate with your removable disc. You must install the USB driver file first.

Before connecting the player to PC, make sure to install USB driver. If “Add New Hardware

Wizard” appears, press the [Cancel] button and install the USB driver.

Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the computer.

Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB cable connection port on the bottom of the player.

● If you disconnect the USB cable from your PC while implementing a command or initializing during USB driver installation, your PC may not function correctly.

The USB driver is installed with a message saying that it is searching for a new device. You may not see the display screen during installation.

Go to the device manager to check that installation has been successfully completed.

Upon installation of the USB driver "Samsung YP-C1 USB Device" will appear in the [System Properties] ➝ [Device Manager].

Go to “Downloading/Uploading files” if the USB driver is installed.

Follow these steps if the USB driver is not installed :

(displayed as unknown device or USB device).

- If you are using Windows 2000 and your version of Windows does not recognize the USB driver please download and install the latest service pack from windowsupdate.microsoft.com

- The installation method may vary depending on the type of PC or operating system.

Contact your PC dealer or service center for installation information.

- If errors occur continuously when you install the USB driver, reconnect the USB cable after rebooting your system.

Using the removable storage(PC)

I Downloading/Uploading files

Connect the player to your PC with the supplied USB cable.

Open Windows Explorer on PC.

● Removable Disc is displayed in Windows Explorer.

Select the file to save and drag-and-drop it into the removable disk icon.

(In numerical, alphabetical order)

● If you change the name of music files in Windows Explorer like 001* * * , 002* * *..., music files will be played in the order of number indicated.

- The “WRITING/READING” message will appear during file download or upload. Disconnecting the USB cable while “WRITING/READING” is displayed may cause malfunction of the unit.

- The order of music files is not relative to the replay order when you select a Removable Disc in Windows Explorer.

After completing the file transfer, you must disconnect the cable in the following way:

I Formatting

Select the removable disc icon and click the right mouse button to select [Format].

● All saved files will be formatted.

● You can change the name of removable disc by selecting [Volume label].

Installing Music Studio

Music Studio is a program that enables you to play back music files on your PC.

Insert the Installation CD into CD-ROM drive.

Select [Install Samsung Music Studio].

To View Help on Music Studio

Run Music Studio and press F1.

● Help will appear.

Move the arrow to the top of Music Studio and right click on the mouse. The following selection window will appear.

Playing Music and Turning Off the Device

I Turning Power On and Off

Power On : Press the button to turn on the power.

Power Off : Press and hold the button to turn off the power.

I Playing Music (Power On)

Press the button.

● Playback starts.

I Pausing Music (Power Off)

Press the button to pause playback.

● If no buttons are pressed within 10 seconds (changes depending on settings), the player automatically powers off.

● While in Pause mode, press the button again to resume playback.

I Adjusting the Volume

Press , to adjust the volume from 00 to 30.

- If the file name is not displayed correctly, move to [Settings] ➔ [Language] ➔ [Menu] and then change the language setting. When the language setting changes, the language in the menu screen changes accordingly.

- WMA files can only be played as music files with a compression rate of 48Kbps-192Kbps.

- The power off time can be set in the menu.

HOLD Function

In Hold mode, all buttons are disabled.

Slide the switch in the direction of the arrow.

❈ When the button is pressed, the “ HOLD!” message will appear on the display.

Recording Voice

✽ To move to other modes from the Voice mode, refer to “Changing Mode”.

Press and hold the REC button to start voice recording.

Press the REC button again to stop the recording and save the voice file.

- The files are recorded in the order of V001,V002......, and saved as WAV file in the VOICE folder after recording.

- If the Memory is full, Voice Recording is stopped automatically.

- Voice Recording does not work in FM Mode or when the Line In cable is connected.

● The files are recorded in the order of L001, L002.... and saved as MP3 file in LINE_ENC folder after recording.

- Volume can be adjusted while monitoring the recording.

- Do not disconnect the Line cable during recording.

- If the battery is not sufficiently charged, the player will not completely record the file.

- Adjust the volume of the external audio source to a suitable level and record it.

If the volume level is too high, the sound quality may be poor.

Searching for Music/Voice Files

¤ To search for specific parts during play

● Press and hold , during playback to search for the part you want to listen to.

● Release , to resume play normally.

¤ To change tracks during play

● Press briefly during playback to play the next track.

● Press briefly within 5 seconds after playback starts, to move to and play the previous track. Press briefly after five seconds to play the current track from the beginning.

¤ To change tracks when stopped

● Press , in stop mode to move to the previous/next track.

- VBR(Variable Bit Rate) file: A file that constantly changes the compression rate according to the type of sounds, such as their pitch, in the file.

- In the case of a VBR file, you cannot move to and play the previous track even if you press within 5 seconds after playback starts.

- Files that were downloaded in MP2 or MP1 and had their file extension changed to

MP3 may not play.

Setting Bookmark

Press the REC button briefly during playback.

● “lB” mark will be displayed.

● Press , within the bookmarked file to move to the bookmarked locations.

● If the bookmark is set, “B” mark is displayed when playing files that are not bookmarked.

To remove the bookmark, press the REC button once again at the bookmarked.

● “lB” mark will disappear.

I Manual Search for a Frequency

● Press , briefly to search manually for the frequency you want.

I Automatic Search for a Frequency

● Press and hold , to search for and stop at frequencies with reception.

I Manual Storage of a Frequency

● After searching manually for the frequency you want, press the A ↔ B button to display the save screen.

● Press , to select the number you want to assign to save the frequency and then press the A ↔ B button.

I Automatic Storage of a Frequency

● Press and hold the A ↔ B button while in FM Mode.

● Frequencies within the range of 87.5MHz to

108.0MHz are automatically selected and stored.

● Frequencies are automatically stored, starting from 1.

● Recording of the currently transmitted FM broadcast begins.

● A file is created and the recording stops.

● Files are recording in the order F001, F002, F003...and saved as MP3 files in FM_ENC folder.

Loop Repeating

¤ Starting Point

While playing music files, press the A ↔ B button briefly at the beginning of the loop you want to set.

A ↔ appears in the display.

¤ Ending Point

Press the A ↔ B button briefly again to set the end of the loop.

A ↔ B appears in the display.

The loop is played repeatedly.

You can easily search for files or switch modes using the Navigation function.

Select the file or folder that you want to play.

● Select User EQ Set to set the EQ as dedired.

I Bass Booster

● Use , to select Bass Booster On or Off and then press the “M” button.

● Bass Booster function is applied only when you select

Normal, Classic, Jazz or Rock in the Preset EQ.

● On: When the music is played back, the bass is enhanced in the preset sound.

● Off: Music is played back in the preset sound.

I WOW Set

● Use , to select the SRS function you want and then press the “M” button.

● The SRS function is applied only when you select the

SRS, TruBass or WOW in the Preset EQ.

● SRS : You will hear 3D Stereo sound.

Use , to adjust SRS from 0 to 10.

● TruBass : This is a bass boost feature that adds fullness to the sound.

Use , to adjust TruBass from 0 to 10.

● Focus : You can enjoy clearer tone during playback.

Use , to set Focus and then press the “M” button.

● Optimum : Optimize the SRS function according to the device connected to the main unit.

● If User EQ is selected in Preset EQ, EQ can be set to your preference in the User EQ Set.

This is what is attached to an MP3 to carry information relevant to the file, such as the title, artist, album, year, genre and a comment field.

- Supported languages can be changed or added.

Recording Settings

I Bit Rate

● Use , to set the recording bit rate.

● When recording music into an MP3 file, you can select one of the following bit rates: 32Kbps, 48Kbps, 64Kbps,

96Kbps and 128Kbps.

I Auto Sync

● Use , to set the Auto Sync Time from 1 to 5 seconds.

● AutoSync Time is a function for separating and saving

MP3 files when there is no sound for a set time during

MP3 recording.

● In SYNC 1 setting, recording stops and it moves to Music

Mode when there is no sound for over 1 second during recording.

● If AutoSync Time is set to Off, recording keeps going even if there is no sound, and then it is saved as one file.

I Auto Off Time

● Use , to set the Power-Off time from 0 to 30 minites.

● If no button is pressed after play stops, the player will automatically turn off after the time you set.

● When set to Off, it will not turn off automatically.

I Auto Sleep

● Use , to set the Sleep time to 15, 30, 60, 90, or 120.

The player will automatically turn off after the time you set.

● 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes are available for sleep time, and it will automatically turn off after the time you set.

● When set to Off, it does not turn off automatically.

I Intro Time

● Use , to set the Intro time to 10, 20, 30, or 60 seconds.

● When you select the Intro function, the beginning of all files will be played back for the seconds you set.

Troubleshooting

The software doesn’t work

● Refer to the System Requirements

The player does not work and the LCD displays nothing.

● Check the battery capacity

● Check to see if the battery is inserted to the right poles ( + , – )

● After connecting it to PC, execute YP-C1 Updater in the desktop to update the product.

In PLAY mode, music is not played after pressing the button

● Check to see if MP3 or WMA files are saved in the built-in memory.

● Check to see if the HOLD button is locked.

Files cannot be downloaded.

● Check to see if the driver is installed correctly in the computer.

● Check the connection between the player and PC.

● Check and/or replace the battery, turn on the play's power.

● Operating system limits the number of files you can save.

Please save your music files by creating a subfolder.

● Check if the memory is full.

Backlight does not work.

● Check the backlight setup.

● When the battery power is low, the backlight will go out.

The buttons do not work.

● Check setting of Hold switch.

● Remove the battery once and then insert it again.

Troubleshooting

The player keeps being turned off.

● In Stop mode, the power is automatically turned off after ten seconds

(changes depending on settings).

● Check to see if there are files saved in it.

Something’s wrong with play time displayed during Play mode.

● Check to see if a VBR file is paying.

LCD window is dark

● Check Contrast

The file name is not displayed correctly.

● Move to [Settings] ➔ [Language] ➔ [ID3-Tag] in the Menu and then change the language setting.

There is a file saved in the player, but “No File” appears in the screen.

● After checking whether the folder is played, use the Navigation function to change the folder.

● After connecting it to PC, execute YP-C1 Updater in the desktop to update the product.

I cannot properly connect it to PC.

● Win98 : Try to connect again after installing the driver.

● WinME : Remove the driver program and press the Start in the desktop to execute

Windows Update. After selecting important update and service pack, execute update all.

● Win2000/XP : Try to connect it again after rebooting PC.
