Checklist before you quote
Physical layout assumptions o
Datacenter has enough rack space, cooling, and power. o
Configuration is built for front-to-back airflow. o
Configuration is built for auto-sensing (110v/220v) AC power.
Customer understands the following, in regards to the Reference Architectures o
Components of the solution will come separately and be invoiced separately. o
Deployment guides are available for some, not all, reference architectures. Deployment guides will walk the customer through cabling and OS/SW configuration of the storage, network and servers. If available, they are posted on Dell TechCenter, with links included in the Dell Blueprints for Microsoft UCC Reference Architectures presentation on the Partner

How to build the complex configurations in Solutions
Configurator
For Reference Architectures which include Compellent storage and/or multiple FX2 chassis, there are multiple steps to build up the quote.
An instructional video has been posted to DellTV that walks you through the below steps. Link: OSC
Quick Look: Quoting Complex Templates
Note:
Dell has configured the templates as a quick and easy way to configure the solutions described in the Reference Architecture documents. If at any time the templates are not working, the solutions can be configured from the base products, as described in the reference architecture documents.
6.1
Step 1 : Select the desired template
Select the template from the “Unified Communications & Collaboration Blueprints” folder under the
“Solution Templates” tab. The default options within the templates can be modified to accommodate sizing changes as needed for your particular customer’s requirements.
Figure 1 Blueprint for Microsoft UC&C available templates
14 Dell PartnerDirect Solutions Configurator Guide for the Dell Blueprint for Microsoft UC&C
6.2
Step 2 : Mandatory products vs Optional product
Some products are so integral to the reference architecture that they are mandatory and quantities cannot be changed. For the FX2 based reference architectures, the FX2 chassis with 4 FC630 blades are mandatory. The rack switches and cabling are optional and the quantities can be changed.
Note:
While the Brocade switches appear optional, only Brocade FiberChannel switches have been validated with the Compellent storage arrays included with the reference architectures.
Figure 2 Example of mandatory vs optional products within a template
6.3
Step 3 : Modify the server and networking hardware on the template as needed for your customer’s requirement
Refer to the Reference Architecture document and Section 7 of this document for guidance
PLEASE NOTE that changing the configuration of the components will change the performance and capacity metrics documented in the reference architecture and Dell does not provide a warranty in respect of any such changes made nor accepts any liability arising out of or connection with such
changes, unless expressly agreed in writing by Dell under the ordering process.

Step 4: Add in the Compellent storage node
6.4.1
Utilize the Add Product feature to add the Compellent SC4020 controller
Figure 3 Add Product tab
6.4.2
Configure the Compellent SC4020 (along with any required enclosures)
See Appendix B for the configurations for the 10K User Lync and 5K User SharePoint storage nodes.
Note: Base + Enclosures need to be on the same quote to ensure correct serviceability recognition.

SLA is 48 hours.
If there are additional FX2 chassis in your configuration, go to step 6.5 while the SEC approval is in process.

Guidance on making changes to the reference architecture
The reference architectures have been defined with specific performance and capacity metrics.
Adhering to these recommended configurations by using the pre-built templates is indicative of a good quality level to the customer due to the significant engineering validation as well as providing a baseline for consideration when designing and delivering a comprehensive solution.
PLEASE NOTE that certain assumptions will have been made in the configurations by Dell, and together with the suggested permissible changes outlined below, customer should always look to
verify the final solution configuration with its own design experts.
However, in some cases, customers might need slight changes to meet their specific needs. The sections below provides guidance on what may be changed and what may not be changed.
7.1
Changes Allowed
In general most upsells are acceptable: o
Faster Processors, denser RDIMM memory; o
Longer cables, switch to SFP+ Transceivers + optical cable rather than DAC; o
Additional SW: Optional Compellent software, Active System Manager, OpenManage
Essentials, Foglight for Virtualization, vRanger AppAssure or vRanger for backup; o
Longer support contracts, education courses, onsite deployment, resolution packets;
Changing the configuration of the components such as changing CPU/memory configuration of servers, changing the disk type/capacity of storage enclosures, or changing # of ports for the network or fabric switches.
Increasing or decreasing the quantity of SC220 enclosures deployed;
Replacing Brocade 6510 SAN switch with Brocade 6505 instead.
It is ok to use HW that your customer may already have. However, make sure that the components match the configuration prescribed in the reference architecture.
Also note that if the FC switches are not available and racked at time of SC storage (Compellent)
deployment, services will not cable the Compellent to the switches.
7.2
Changes Not Recommended
Changing to DC power – the SC4020 only supports AC power;
Changing from FC to iSCSI – would need to change switches with significant change in cabling;
Converging IO using a CNA – this reference architecture is designed for segregating LAN/SAN traffic;
Replacing Brocade 6510 SAN switch with Brocade 300 instead.
18 Dell PartnerDirect Solutions Configurator Guide for the Dell Blueprint for Microsoft UC&C
7.3
Changes which may allow a level of Performance but which are
Not Recommended
Adding optical transceivers and cables, replacing DAC. While optical cables have longer runs and lighter, easier cables, the incremental price may not be justified. If optical cables are preferred, consider Dell’s eSR transceivers for short runs;
Unnecessary upgrades, e.g., internal drives in FX2;
Building configuration manually – Dellstar templates are proven to reduce order errors by up to 6x and allow tracking of reference architecture usage, and thereby saving you hours.
7.4
Recommended for your customer
Dedicated rack;
Backup Power.
