Efficient Finishing
Xerox
®
Dual-Mode
Sheet Feeder (BSFEx)
As a standalone device or as part of the
Xerox ® IntegratedPLUS Solution for Booklets, the Xerox ® Dual-Mode Sheet Feeder (BSFEx) provides an efficient means of preparing jobs for finishers, providing automated finisher set up and for sharing a finishing device with multiple printers. A printer that is equipped with the BSFEx inline can bypass the BSFEx
Sheet Feeder and send sheets directly to the inline finisher. In addition, stacks from other printers can be fed into the BSFEx to use that inline finisher when the attached printer is not using it. The BSFEx can also be used as input to offline auto-finishers if inline finishing doesn’t fit into your business plan.
The BSFEx includes two separate feeding compartments: a lower high-capacity tray that can accommodate pile heights up to
20" (508 mm) and an upper feed drawer that accommodates pile heights up to 6.3"
(160 mm) of cover or insert sheets. When in bypass mode, the upper feed tray can be used as a covers feeder. A hand scanner is used to read JDF data from job-specific printed banner sheets that travel with the stacks. The BSFEx is equipped with OMR mark recognition, double and missed sheets detection from both compartments and detects when either tray is empty.
Benefits
• Combines the benefits of an inline finishing device with the convenience and cost effectiveness of sharing one finisher with multiple printers.
• Saves time and enables you to produce more jobs through automated setup of files and automated setup of inline or offline finishers with the Xerox ® IntegratedPLUS
Finishing Solution for Booklets.
• Adds integrity by allowing printed stacks to easily be moved to the finisher without splitting the stack.
• In offline mode, the attached finisher can run at up to 15,000 sheets/hour.
• Maximizes load balancing between printers.

Duplo Slitter/Cutter/Creaser (SCC)
Nearline Booklet Maker
The Duplo Slitter/Cutter/Creaser (SCC) is an optional unit designed specifically for the color and monochrome user. It is able to slit, cut and crease in a single pass, making the finishing of digital color and monochrome books simpler and faster than ever.
The SCC is designed principally for the digital color market and takes care of two common issues associated with digital output. First, the SCC module side-slits and trims the head and foot of each sheet providing an accurate full-bleed trim, which is registered by a CCD camera to the image, rather than to the physical dimensions of the sheet. Second, the SCC module can crease the cover and innermost sheets of the booklet or all the sheets in the booklet so that image cracking on the foldline is minimized.
The unit’s PC Touch Screen enables access to the PC Controller software, which makes it very easy for an operator to program and review or modify jobs during the SCC operation. The software ensures the machine is programmed within specification. Job layouts can be verified to run with an option to select alternative formats or paper size if needed.
Benefits
• Reduces production time.
• Reduces waste and errors caused by using separate unconnected finishing processes.
• Saves cost of additional equipment.
• One operator performs the job of two people.
• Intelligent and intuitive, allowing operation by unskilled staff.

Creaser with Integrated
Folding System
Adding to an already versatile line of digital print finishing solutions, Duplo’s Integrated
Folding System (IFS) achieves the next level in automation. Incorporating an inline knife folder with a DC-series finishing unit, the IFS eliminates the need for a separate folding device and enables users to not only slit/cut/ crease with the DC-645 but also fold digitally printed applications in a single pass using one system. By performing the functions of multiple machines, the system removes the bottleneck of the finishing process that occurs when setting up jobs separately. Printers can now provide a faster turnaround by decreasing their production time.
Accepted sheet sizes are 8.26" x 8.26" to 14.56" x 25.59" (210 x 210 mm to 370 x 650 mm) with paper weights of 110 to 350 gsm (80 lb text to

Benefits
• Easy Setup using a centrally located control panel.
• Multiple-Up Processing—Slit, cut, crease and fold multiple-up pieces simultaneously in one pass.
• Efficient Folding Technology—Using 2-knife blades, the IFS can perform the most common folds including single, letter, Z, gate and double parallel along with an infinite number of custom folds.
• Increased Stacking Capacity—Can be configured with either a short (8" or 203 mm) or long (15.75" or 375 mm) vertical stacker where the finished pieces, both folded and un-folded, are collected.
• Customizable Configurations—The IFS is made up of several modules and can be configured to meet individual needs.

CEM DocuCutt™
For added efficiency and productivity, the
CEM DocuCutt converts oversized sheets to just the right size, allowing the Xerox ® Book
Factory to add the right finishing touch. The
Xerox ® iGen4 ® Digital Press, with the Xerox ®
Book Factory, provides the perfect solution for producing reference, user and services manuals as well as product documentation, catalogs, out-of-print books and more. With its document finishing architecture (DFA), the new converter connects inline to the finishing equipment—where the cut sheets are moved directly onto an output transport conveyor, inline to the C.P. CEM DocuConverter™
The CEM DocuConverter optimizes cut sheet printing by allowing document sheets to be printed on the most cost-effective stock size and converted into the required document size. Converted (cross-cut) documents are buffered, stacked, optionally offset on the set boundary and delivered onto an output transport conveyor. Stacks are then ready for additional post print processing. An optional
“slitter” function (process-direction cut) provides the ability to print and convert four images per page. When using this function in conjunction with the cross-cut function, the final output consists of two side-by-side stacks of collated documents. Setup and general machine control are accomplished using an integrated control panel with a digital display.
Benefits
• Optimizes printers’ costs. Converts sheets into the right size for the Xerox ® Book Factory. Less manual handling means even greater savings.

IntegratedPLUS
Finishing Solution for Booklets
Beneficial as it is, automated finishing used to tie up valuable assets on your shop floor.
Prepress and postpress processes required highly skilled personnel to set up files to match finishing devices at the front end and then later to set up the actual finishing device to run the job. And you were forced to dedicate a finishing device to just one printer. If you weren’t running booklets, for example, that booklet maker sat idle. Xerox ® IntegratedPLUS Finishing Solution for Booklets changes all that. Now prepress setup and finishing setup can be automated, whether or not the finishing device is inline with a printer or offline. You get the best of both finishing worlds—the convenience of inline with the flexibility of offline, plus unsurpassed labor savings.
Xerox ® IntegratedPLUS Finishing Solution for
Booklets enables selected finishing devices to be set up automatically, through JDF instructions, whether or not they are attached to a specific printer. An operator simply loads sheets and covers into the finishing device, scans a bar coded banner sheet and presses
“start.” No manual finisher setup is required.
In the example above, your production printer can be printing and stacking an annual report to be perfect bound on an offline finisher while the inline booklet maker is busy binding benefit booklets originally printed on an entirely different device.
Or, depending on your shop, you can choose to have an offline booklet maker serve multiple printers. Either way, the automatic booklet maker setup enabled by your Xerox ®
IntegratedPLUS Solution gives you the opportunity to optimize your investment and your operation by leveraging automation.
Benefits
• Eliminates the need for highly skilled prepress
operators to prepare files according to finisher
specifications.
• Eliminates manual programming at the finishing device and reduces the risk of error because the necessary parameters
(e.g., page imposition, page ordering and trimming) are set automatically when a job enters your workflow.
• Extends the convenience and cost effectiveness of automated finishing to multiple printers (including Xerox ® and non-Xerox ® printers in the same shop) without the need for multiple, dedicated inline finishing devices.
• Maximizes productivity by enabling prints to be output to stacker carts at full rated print speed, while an attached finishing device binds other jobs at its full rated speed.
• Makes it easy to manage a mix of jobs that include diverse finishing requirements and short print runs without tying up a high-volume printer.
