Overview of the Signum Series Models
General Information
Sartorius Signum series scales (SIW....) were developed for use in industrial environments.
The SIW.... models have been extended to include the Signum “stainless steel” and the “little
Signum” with a compact design.
Note:
h
The scales are equipped with an H8S processor.
For calibration|adjustment, use Sartorius Service Software (H8S).
In order to use this software, it is imperative that you select the
XBPI-232 option setting via the menu on the Signum scale.
Example:
Menu > SETUP > COM1 > DATPROT > XBPI-232 (XBPI-232)
Further settings are described in the operating instructions for the scale (pages 18-37).

Service Switches
M1
There are two sliding switches on the data output PCB for use by service technicians. These switches are located on the back of the scale and can be activated through the borehole using a thin object.

Only open this switch for service purposes. At all other times, it should remain in the “closed” position.
This switch must be open in order to work with the Sartorius Service Software. If the switch remains closed, the error message “ACCESS SWITCH LOCKED” will be displayed in the service program.

Boot Switch (Flash Switch)
Warning!
3
Activate this switch only if an attempt to program the application-data memory with the PPLOADER program fails
(programming routine stops responding).
Procedure for returning the PCB to bootable mode:
– Disconnect the scale from AC power source.
– Slide the boot switch to the right and plug the scale back into AC power source.
– Slide the switch to the left again. After a short time, the PCB is ready to boot (reload the application software using PPLOADER).

Note:
h
The COM 1 interface must be set to XBPI (eXtended Binary Processor
Interface) protocol before you can perform calibration|adjustment procedures or program the scale using the Sartorius Service Software
(see page 66).
Close Function
After using the service software, select the “Close” function to reactivate write-protection and return the weighing system to SBI mode for data output. When the SBI mode is active the scale uses the SBI protocol, which is required for communicating with the printer.

Setting the XBPI-232 Protocol
The scale must be set to the XBPI protocol (BPI-232) in order to perform calibration|adjustment procedures or program the scale using the service software.

Defining the Storage Period
The Alibi memory uses a ring buffer, which means when the memory is full, the oldest data records are overwritten by new data.
To give the user some control of the overwriting process, they have the option of setting a minimum storage duration period.
This time period is defined in days and can have a value from 0 to 255.
When the Alibi memory is full, 16 data entries are deleted in order to free up space for the new data. The date of the newest among the
16 entries marked for deletion is compared with the current date. If the difference is greater than the defined time period, the values are deleted; if not, the error code ERR2632 is shown and the ‘save’ and ‘print’ operations are canceled.
If, when comparing the date of the entry marked for deletion, the entry is found to have an invalid date (earlier than 2007 or later than
2049), the entry date is not compared with the current date and the 16 oldest entries are deleted regardless of the time period defined.
If the time period is set to ‘0’, the date of the entry is not checked before data is overwritten.
If no real-time clock is detected when the device is put into operation, the period is automatically set to ‘0’. If a clock is detected, the time period is set to a default value of 90 days.
If the time indicated by the clock is invalid, the error message ERR2627 is shown and the Alibi memory cannot be operated until the time has been corrected.
Note:
h
