Operating Instuctions | Betriebsanleitung Sartorius Permeability Indicator YAW61 Permeabilitätsprüfgerät YAW61 98647-004-30 Purpose The permeability indicator consists of a permanent bar magnet with semispherical ends. The magnet is fitted to a lever of a beam which is accurately balanced by a counterweight so that the indicator can be used in all positions. The operating principle is based on the reciprocal attraction of a permanent magnet and a calibrated standard and an unknown material. By changing calibrated standards, it is possible to select limits of permeability in increments. Equipment supplied 1 case with indicator 1 set of standards with the following values: 1.01; 1.02; 1.03; 1.05; 1.06; 1.08; 1.15; 1.2; 1.3; 1.6; 1.8; 1.9; 5.0 µ Precautions The highly sensitive permeability indicator must be handled with care. The following precautions should be observed: – Remove metal filings, chips and dirt from the surface of material under test. – Under no circumstances bring another magnet in contact with the indicator magnet, as this would disturb the calibration of the indicator to such an extent that it will necessitate its return and subsequent recalibration. – Make sure inserts are screwed firmly in place to ensure contact with the magnet. – Do not pull the indicator away from the test material, particularly if the 1.01- insert is in place, as this may distort results. – Contact between the indicator and high permeability materials such as steel, cast iron, or straight chromium steels must b prevented as far as possible; for example, by first screening the materials under test with a hand magnet. – Do not drop the indicator. – When not in use, keep the indicator in its box with the highest value insert in place. – Inserts are not interchangeable between indicators. 2 Operation Place the permeability indicator on a clean table next to your weight. The surface of the weight should be perfectly clean. Do not keep magnets or any other materials that have a high permeability (e. g., steel) in the vicinity of the testing area. Secure the 2.5 µ standard insert in the housing when transporting the indicator and to arrest the lever. Replace this insert by a calibrated standard from the set (e. g., 1.03 µ). Place the 2.5 µ insert back in the case. To test the permeability, move the indicator towards the weight until the protruding semispherical end of the bar magnet is in contact with the weight. Now pull back the indicator slowly while carefully watching the position of the lever. If the permeability of the weight is higher than that of the standard, the contact between the bar magnet and standard will break first. On the contrary, if the permeability of the weight is lower than that of the standard, the contact between weight and bar magnet will break first. By exchanging standards you can limit or determine the permeability of your weight. Only if the contact breaks completely is this an indication of a higher permeability. After the test has been completed, fasten the 2.5 µ standard insert back into the housing of the indicator. Certification A factory certificate for magnetism and susceptibility for weights up to 20 kg F2, can be issued on request. 3 Sartorius AG Weender Landstrasse 94–108 37075 Goettingen, Germany Phone +49.551.308.0 Fax +49.551.308.3289 www.sartorius-mechatronics.com Copyright by Sartorius AG, Goettingen, Germany.
