3 Transport and storage
The device should be only transported in the original case or in appropriate packing.
If the device is not used for some time, protect it against heat and humidity. Store the device in a roofed, dry, and dust free room. Temperature should be between
–20°C and +60°C (-4°F and 104°F).
4 Installation and Connection
The EGK 2-19 is designed to be insta lled in closed rooms in a 19” rack or mounted on the wall.
If installed outdoors, sufficient weather protection must be provided. Leave enough mounting space for connecting the gas tubes above the device and for condensate drain below the device.
The allowable ambient temperature range from +5°C up to 50°C (41°F up to 122°F) must not be exceeded.
Convection of the cooler must not be obstructed. Leave enough space at the ventilation slots on the side.
Especially at the air outlet on the right distance to objects must be 10 cm / 4 in at least.
If the device is mounted inside a closed cabinet, e.g. analysing cabinet, adequate ventilation must be provided. If convection is not sufficient, we recommend rinsing the cabinet with air or installing an additional fan to lower the temperature inside the cabinet.
4.1 Mounting
With glass heat exchangers, make sure that the gasket is inserted in correct orientation. The gasket consists of a silicon ring and a PTFE shield. The PTFE shield must point to the glass thread.
Glass
PTFE
Make sure that all sample gas lines leading to the cooler are installed with a downward slope. In some applications with very high condensate content separators upstream the cooler could become necessary. Best suited are our fluid separators with automatic condensate drain 11 LD, especially AK20 or type 165.
The gas entrance is marked with red. Connect the hoses to the heat exchangers made of DURAN glass with care to avoid breaking the glass.
Condensate is drained by hoses. If the cooler is equipped with peristaltic pumps (option) the hoses between heat exchanger and pump are already connected at delivery. Merely hoses to drain the condensate must be connected. For draining condensate glass vessels are provided. The vessels may be installed below the device whereupon the hoses may be guided through the holes below the pumps. Alternatively piping may be guided above the cooler to the rear.
If the cooler is equipped with filters type AGF-FA-5 piping between heat exchanger and filter is also carried out at delivery.

4.3 Signal outputs
maximum switching load of the alarm outputs rates 250 VAC/DC, 1 A each.
Alarm is set if the actual temperature of the cooler is higher or lower than the preset alarm limits. The signal does not distinguish if the alarm is caused by to high or to low temperature.
When the moisture detector (optional) is installed, an alarm is activated if the moisture is still present in the prepared sample gas. Thereby, no distinction is made between the alarm/cable break triggered by moisture detector 1 or 2. This information is displayed by an error message instead.
If the option “temperature signal” is installed, the actual temperature of the connector is provided as an analogue signal. (Option “moisture detector“ includes the option “temperature signal”.)

Kompressor-Messgaskühler
EGK 2-19
®

Description of a fully assembled gas path
The sample gas is routed to the input of the heat exchanger (1,1a) made of stainless steel, glass or PVDF. The output of the heat exchanger is pre-tubed to the filter (3). The dried and filtered sample gas leaves the filter at the outlet (3a).
The condensate is withdrawn by the peristaltic pump (2) which is tubed to the heat exchanger.
The optional moisture detector (4) is monitored by the internal controller (5). This eliminates the need for additional controllers.
Controller (5)
The core element of the electronic circuit is the m i c r o p r o c e s s o r - c o n t r o l l e d B u h l e r C o n s t a n t
Regulating System. The front panel display (with 3 control keys) shows the cooler temperature as well as the system status. Several system parameters can be set such as outlet dewpoint, alarm limits or sensitivity of the moisture detector.
Electrical connections (6)
All signals are accessible on the top of the cooler via a
Phoenix plug. The power supply is connected via a plug as well. No fixed wiring is required.

The energy content of the sample gas and, as a result, the cooling capacity is determined by 3 parameters: gas temp.
J
G
, dewpoint t e and flow v. The outlet dewpoint rises with increasing energy content (heat) of the gas. The required cooling capacity is determined by the max. acceptable level of the outlet dew point.
The following table shows cooler performance assuming the following conditions: =40°C and
J
G
=70°C. Indicated is the v max in Nl/h cooled air (i.e. after the moisture has condensed).
If the real values stay below the parameters t e and
J
G
, Q max can be increased. For example, instead of = 40 °C,
J
G
= 70 °C and v = 280 l/h the values =50 °C,
J
G
=80 °C and v=220 l/h could be achieved.

Filters can be installed and the filter housings may include moisture detectors.
Measurement and display of signals are by the internal micro controller and the LED display.
Due to the wide variety of combinations and pre assembled parts, a cooling system can be designed for any specific application. Contact one of Buhler’s application specialists for further information.

Concept
The EGK 2-19 may include one or two heat exchangers.
Optional components commonly found in conditioning system can be integrated:
peristaltic pumps for condensate drainage
filters
moisture detectors
The cooler is completely configurable to meet the needs of any specific application. This modular approach combines many of the discrete functions of previous designs therefore minimizing cost and assembly time.
The condition of the filter element can be seen easily through a viewing glass. The moisture detector is easy to disassemble for maintenance.

Description of a fully assembled
Gas Path

Heat Exchanger
The energy content of the sample gas and, as a result, the cooling capacity is determined by 3 parameters: gas temp.
J
G
, dewpoint t e and flow v. The outlet dewpoint rises with increasing energy content (heat) of the gas. The required cooling capacity is determined by the max. acceptable level of the outlet dew point.
The following limits are set for t e
=120 °F and
J
G
=160 °F.
Indicated is the v max in lpm cooled air .If the actual values stay below the parameters t e and
J
G
, v max can be increased. For example (TG), instead of = 120°F,
J
G
= 160°F and v = 5.7 lpm the values t e
=105 °F,
J
G
=160 °F a maximum flow rate of v=7.1 lpm could be achieved.
