How should the oil level of the log splitter be measured?

To measure the oil level, ensure the log splitter is in a vertical position and the pusher is retracted. You will need a second person to hold the device steady. Unscrew and remove the oil dipstick, then clean it. Insert the dipstick (without screwing it in) and pull it out again. The oil level should be between the "min" and "max" marks. If necessary, top up with hydraulic oil of viscosity class HLP 46. Check the seal and then lightly screw the dipstick back in to avoid damaging the cylinder head threads.

What troubleshooting steps should be taken if the piston does not retract after splitting and the lever is loose?

If the pusher (piston) does not retract correctly to its final position, check the hydraulic oil level to ensure it is sufficient. Verify that the log splitter is placed on a flat, horizontal surface, ideally with a slight inclination towards the control lever, as an inclination towards the splitting wedge can cause loss of force and movement anomalies. Also, check for the presence of air in the system; if found, open the bleed screw to allow air to escape.

In which position should the bleed screw be opened for the log splitter?

The bleed screw should be loosened by 3-4 turns before starting the log splitter, with the log splitter positioned horizontally on a flat, solid surface. Remember to tighten the bleed screw again after completing operations to prevent oil leakage during transport or storage.
