Current Database ~ The program utilises various databases, divided by sections. They
consist of:

The ‘Current Database’ is displayed in the button beneath the ‘Tools’ menu. The database
may be changed by clicking and selecting from the list
Search Panel ~ Most search options utilise the ‘Search Panel’






Select the databases to be included in
the search. This should be done first as
other options may become available
Some options require selection from a
list, others require the addition of text
Select from the ‘Sort By’ dropdown
Depending on the mode selected, the
Base, Operator code or ‘Seen As’ details
can be included on the results grid in the
fifth ‘options’ column
If a ‘Base/Code’ search is selected, a
‘Decode’ button will display. By selecting
this, the displayed IATA or ICAO airport
codes will be decoded
Quicksearch Panel

Current ID
Search for a current registration. Add text and <enter> or select ‘Current ID’.
Databases are searched for active, reserved, withdrawn and preserved frames
and results will displayed in the grid. Details of the primary entry are shown in
the Data panel. Should the registration not be found, a ‘History ID’ search will
be offered.
 Due to speed limitations, Military and GenAv databases are not
searched for Reserved registrations. This can be done via the
‘Search’ menu
 A dash (-) in civil registrations is optional, subject to settings in the
‘Options’ menu.
 Wildcard searches are possible. Substitute a question mark for the
character or an asterisk for a string of characters
 Selecting the <F3> key displays up the search option
‘Show Aircraft’ and ‘Show Status’ parameters are not respected in the Current
ID search
Show Aircraft
Consists of options to restrict searches to All aircraft, only those Needed or
only those Seen. The default option is All aircraft.
Show Status
Options to restrict searches to Active aircraft, Inactive aircraft, aircraft On order, Extant,
Preserved, Active / On Order or All aircraft. The selection will be retained.
History ID
Searches all databases for occurrences of a registration whether current or historical. Results
are displayed in the grid. The Data panel will display the aircraft currently registered as such.
Wildcard searches are possible.
Prefix
Searching a registration prefix will list details of aircraft with registrations currently carrying
that prefix, subject to the selected Databases, 'Show aircraft' and 'Show Status' selection. No
dash is required unless extra characters are required, i.e ‘HB’ returns all Swiss whereas ‘HBV’ returns only those with ‘V’ after the dash. Using ‘<>’ will exclude one prefix, i.e ‘<>N’
excludes all N registered aircraft.
Type
Aircraft types can be displayed in three formats, sorted by Con No., Reg’n or Line No. order,
as selected from the ‘Sort type by’ drop down. Results can be further filtered by Mil/Govt,
Exec or Prefix via the ‘Show’ drop down. Selecting ‘Type’ gives a list of types subject to the
currently selected database. The ‘#’ burtton lists available ‘batched’ search and wildcard
options for the selected database.
Sort Type By :
- ‘all xxxx’ ~ lists aircraft sub types collectively
- ‘..wildcard’ ~ for example ‘Learjet 3’ will display all ‘Learjet 31/35/36’
etc.
- ‘..wildcard/prefix’ ~ separate the two by a slash, i.e ‘Falcon/HB’ to
list all HB- Falcons.
- ‘..type / series’ a central panel displays, select the basic type then
the series from the drop downs

Operator
Depending on the selected database, up to four options are available for searching by
operator: Name, Code, Acft Type or Wildcard.
Code ~ enter an ICAO 3 letter operator code
Name ~ select from the drop down ‘Operator Name’ list on the search panel
Acft Type
~ displays a moveable panel with list of operators reflecting the currently
selected database. When selected, a list of aircraft types is populated for
individual selection and display in the main grid
Tick ‘series’ to filter by series. After selecting a type, enter prefix digit(s),
ie ‘3’ to list ‘300’ series aircraft. The text may be any length.
The results may the further filtered by entering a base airport code.
Wildcard ~ any text string can be searched in the operator field
Base Airport
Base airports can be searched in several ways. Results display in registration order
Name ~ Select from the drop down list of airport names
Code ~ Enter an ICAO or IATA airport code
State ~ Enter a US or Canada 2 letter state code
Country ~ Enter the registration prefix of a country, no dash required
UK County ~ Select a county from the drop down on the search panel
 Wildcard ~ Enter text to be searched for within the Base/Airport field





Logs
Search logs for a single date, a location, date &
location, date range or location and date range.
Select the relevant button to display or hide the
required parameters. A list of currently logged
locations is provided
 Choose between ‘Needed only’ or ‘Full Log’
 The search can be restricted to All
Exec/Bizjets/Airliners/Current frames
 Whilst in ‘registration’ mode a ‘Frames Only’
option is available
 Displays results in alphabetical order unless
‘Logged Order’ is selected
 Displays the full type unless ‘ICAO types’ is
selected
The resulting list displays the reg/type/cn and truncated operator. Expand the operator by
selecting the ‘<’ (bottom centre of the grid). In ‘Registration’ mode, ‘frame needed’ displays
with a background color, ‘reg only’ has no background
Loc/Date ~ Select a location and a list of dates logged for that location is displayed. Select a
date to display the log
Date/Loc ~ Select a date and a list of locations logged on that date is displayed. Select a
location to display the log

Text Search
Search the databases for registrations held in a section of text that has been copied onto the
clipboard. The text must be in a consistent format. There are two displays, ‘Detailed’ and
‘Mini’.
Mini Text Search
Copy text onto the clipboard and select ‘Mini’. The panel will
display, listing the text. Select text to display that line in full.
Search by
Depending on where the registration starts within the text select
‘Column 1’ or ‘Column 2’. Should the column not be 1 or 2, a
grid select option is available when using the ‘Detailed’ search
panel. ‘All Text’ processes all text strings, however be aware of
possible spurious results, especially if ‘Include Mil’ is selected
‘FR24’ searches text copied from the Flightradar 24 airports display (copy top left ‘time’ to
bottom right ‘status’ onto clipboard ctrl+C). ‘FR24 (Edge)’ will search text copied from MS
Edge, ‘FR24 (Other)’ will search text from other browsers. Should ‘FR24’ be selected,
there is an additional option to exclude duplicated registrations in the list.
Active Only ~ Restricts searches to active aircraft. The default is ‘on’.
Needed Only ~ Restricts the search to needed and unknown aircraft only. The default for
this is ‘Off’.
A Dash in the registration is optional, as is an ‘N’ before a US registration. Items not found
will also be listed at the top of the results, these may consist of non-registration text or
registrations not found.
‘Status ISO Operator’ displays the aircraft status in the results, rather than the operator
The results can be highlighted in colours as set in the Colour Scheme panel. Tick the
‘Highlight’ box, the resulting button toggles between ‘Needed’ and ‘Seen’
Detailed Text Search

‘Report to CB’ ~ copies the reg, type and c/n of aircraft currently displayed to the clipboard
for pasting into an e-mail report
Abbr Report ~ Produces an abbreviated text report, listed by aircraft type ICAO code

Grid List
 The grid displays the results of the various
searches. The number of columns, width and
headings vary with the options chosen. Details
of the search and a count of records found and
seen are shown at the top. The first column
displays a ‘seen’ indicator which in frames
mode has a background colour. In
‘Registrations’ mode, this has a background
colour if the current registration has been seen.
 In ‘seen history’ mode this will retain the grid
background colour to indicate that the aircraft
has been seen but not as the current
registration.
 Selecting an aircraft in the list displays its
details in the centre panel
 Selecting a column header sorts the grid in ‘computer logic’ order
 Navigate the grid via the lower < > and << >> buttons
 When displayed, a central ‘<’ adjusts column widths to view hidden or truncated text.
 Row highlight colours can be enabled via the ‘Options’ menu
Data Panel
The central Data panel contains individual aircraft details. Subject to the database and
aircraft displayed, varying fields are visible.
 In ‘Frames’ mode, clicking the populated
'seen where' box displays airport
details. Clicking the 'seen when' box
displays a log search box to allow
searching for aircraft seen at that airport
on that date.
 Several fields have titles in bold text.
Clicking in the associated text boxes
allows a search of that field, usually via
the ‘Search Panel’
 Selecting a ‘Registration History’ box
displays a date registered and cancelled
if available. ‘List’ displays a
‘Registration History’ list
 If ‘Base’ is highlighted, selecting it provides a Google Eath display of the location.
On occasion a ‘GE’ button may show, which locates the displayed aircraft
 Should a displayed executive jet aircraft have an operator ICAO code, ‘Opr Codes’
may be highlighted to offer a callsign decode when selected
 Clicking the ‘Information’ box resizes it
 Selecting ‘Current ID’ or ‘C/No’ provides a ‘snapshot’ of the current aircraft
 PB may use non-standard ICAO type codes. Select ‘Type’ to display the actual code
 Step forward or backward through the database using the < > buttons or arrow
right/left does the same (you may need to first click in a central box)
 ‘Prev Ops’ gives the number of previous operators available, selecting it displays
them
 ‘Reg History’ lists occurrences of an entered registration with dates if available

Log it
Select ‘Log It’ to transfer details of the
displayed aircraft to the ‘Log It’ panel
Select the date via the lists or select
‘Date’ for todays date
The ‘current operator’ is populated.
Alternative operators may be selected
from the drop down or typed directly
into the box.
To permit logging of P.I’s alternative
registrations for the selected frame are
listed in a drop down box
Enter an airport code into the ‘Loc’ box.
Full List ~ If the code is not known the airport may be added by selecting ‘Full List’ and
choosing from the drop down box. If the code is held in the database it will be transferred to
the log details panel.
Used ~ Displays a list of codes that have been used in previous logging
Others ~ Personalised location codes are listed and can be transferred to the locations box
Add/Del ~ To add a personalised location select ‘Add Location’ from the list. Enter a unique
code and a location name. These can be deleted using the ‘.Delete Location’ option.
Quickcode List ~ A list of regularly used airports can be created using the ‘Add’ option or
deleted using the ‘Del’ option.

With ‘Decode’ selected, selecting a code from the list will fill ‘Location’ with the
corresponding full airport name, otherwise the code will be added

To add personalised locations to the location box, add the code to the list, prefixed by
a dot, for example ‘.KFLL’. If ‘Decode’ is selected, clicking the code inserts the
personalised location
Add notes into the ‘Notes’ box. Avoid non text characters such as “ ‘ , #. Once logged they
may be viewed via the ‘Show Logged’ panel.
When ready, select ‘Log It’ to store the details. To retain the current parameters, tick the
adjacent boxes. If the SQB options are selected on the ‘Options’ panel, details will also be
added to an sqb

Pending Panel
Should a registration not be found in Planebase it is possible to save the details to a ‘Pending’
database. Select ‘Pending’ from the ‘Log It’ panel
Adding an entry ~ Select ‘Add’. The details area changes to yellow. Select a date and
location and add any known details to the yellow boxes and ‘Store’
Editing ~ Select from the grid. The details area changes to yellow. Edit the details and
‘Store’ or ‘Delete’ as required
Process Pendings
Searches the Planebase databases for a pending registration, which may have been added
since the original search. Select ‘All Pendings’ to work through the whole grid, or select one
entry from the grid then choose ‘Selected Only’. There are options to include Mil or GA
databases and Previous Identities in the search
If details are found a populated panel will
display.
Check the details and ‘Log It’ if required.
Additional operators may be available from the
drop down list
Otherwise ‘Skip’ or ‘Delete’ the entry.
 If multiple results are found a selection box will display
Print List ~ Print the grid to a text file or an Excel spreadsheet
** Entries may also be added to Pending via the ‘Multilog’ process

Autolog
The ‘Autolog’ option enables logging of multiple
aircraft by entering a registration into the text
box. If found the details will be populated and
the aircraft details displayed in the details
panel.
 In case of multiple records found for
one registration a list will display.
Select the required aircraft.
 Previous identities can be included in
the search by selecting ‘Search PI’ box
 Store the selection using the ‘Log It’
button and the next registration can
then be entered.
 Clear the current text by selecting the
‘Reg’ button. The Location text is not
affected
 Tick boxes permit retention of the
associated details
Add Photo
This option will be available if ‘Photolog Enabled’ is selected in the Options menu. It adds the
currently aircraft to the Photolog database. A panel opens with basic details displayed
In a similar way to ‘Log It’, add an operator, date of the
photo, location of the photo (in plain text or code) and
Notes.
 To add a link to the photo, select the ‘URL’ button
and navigate to the file or enter the location
manually.
 Store the details by selecting ‘Store Photo’.
 Exit the panel at any time by selecting ‘Exit
Photo’
 The airport option buttons are available as they
are in ‘Log It’

MultiLog
Multilog is accessed via the ‘Log It’ panel and consists of three parts. Initially the list of
registrations is populated. The list is then ‘processed’ and details of aircraft are added to a
grid. Entries are then logged.
Options
 Set User Date ~ a date may be stored for retrieval using the ‘User date’ button.
Enter in format ‘DD-MMM-YYYY’ for example ‘01-JAN-2017’
 Auto Insert Dash ~ adds a dash to civil registrations
 Background Colours ~ highlights reg, frame and not needed in different colours
 New list entries at top ~ additions are inserted at the top of the list
 Photo Mode ~ permits logging of a list of aircraft to the Photo Log
 Retain Logging Settings ~ retains most screen settings on exit
 Same Day dupe check ~ checks the registration list for duplicated entries
 Sort List alpabetically~ The registration list is sorted alphanumerically
 Use Opr from PBM log ~ displays user added operator when pasted frpm PBM log.
Otherwise the operator held in the PB databases is displayed
 Exclude PBM ICAO opr ~ If ICAO codes have been used in the PBM log they will be
disregarded and the operator held in the PB databases displayed
 Update Basestation SQB ~ A designated sqb is updated with details as selected in
the main screen ‘options’ panel.
 The SQB path may be set and viewed using the ‘Show Path’ option
Populating the Registration List
There are four methods of populating the registration list:
 Copy a list of registrations onto the Windows clipboard (ctrl+c or right click & copy)
and add it to the list by selecting the ‘Paste’ button. The text should only consist of
one registration per line and no other text
 Select ‘Add Regs’ and enter registrations one by one. A blank entry ends the
process. Entries may be appended to a current list.
 Bulk Load
 E-mailed logs from PB Mobile can be added by copying then using the ‘PBM’ button.
Any added operators or notes will be shown in the results
Save/Print ~ saves the current list to a text file and displays it
Remove ~ remove a single entry from the list by selecting it and clicking ‘Remove’
Reload ~ displays the last list of registrations entered

Bulk Load
The grid can be bulk loaded in three ways
 with aircraft based at a location
 an individual type
 an operator
After being selected, a list of relevant options appears. Select from that list then ‘Load Data’
to populate the grid.
For Locations, a database selection will be available. ‘Needed Only’ will list only those where
‘Frames/Registrations’ are required.
Processing the List
Select ‘Frame’ or ‘Registration’ mode (this will be set from the mode in the main program). It
is possible to exclude Mil, GA and Helis from the searches and to Include Previous Identities
Select a date in the right hand panel and ‘Process List’. If found, the details of each aircraft
will be displayed in the central grid with an indication of whether if is required as a ‘Frame’,
‘Scrape’ or ‘Not Needed’ (depending on the mode selected).
If more than one aircraft is found with a particular registration a selection box will display.
Select the correct entry or skip (which will add the text to the ‘Unknowns’ list.
If a registration/frame combination is currently logged as first seen on a later date there will be
an option to replace the current date with the earlier one and the grid marked ‘Earlier Date’.









Aircraft not found are added to the ‘Unknown’ list.
Grid details may be edited by selecting the cell
Selecting in the operator cell will bring up an operator drop down
‘Bulk Notes’ will add text to the notes column of all current aircraft
Columns may be sorted by selecting the header
Operator text may be edited or replaced by selecting the relevant cell. A list of stored
operators for that frame is displayed. Select from it to replace the current operator or
select ‘Add Operator’ to input text
Once an operator has been replaced an option button allows for bulk replacement of
the old operator with the new one.
Selected Dates or Locations can be retained via the check boxes
‘Same Day Dupe Check’ will check each entry to ensure it has not already been
logged on the selected date and if so will provide a warning.
List Selection
Clicking in the left column of the grid ‘selects’ an entry. All may be selected or de-selected by
clicking the ‘v’ on the header line. Selected lines may be deleted or printed to a text file via
the buttons beneath the grid.
Logging the List
Add a location and date. Locations must be consistent to permit Log searches
Select between logging ‘All’, ‘Needed’ or ‘Selected only’.
 Needed Only’ will only log those marked as ‘Frame’ or ‘Regn’
 Selected’ logs only those selected in the left hand grid column
Click ‘Log’ to log the relevant entries
There are options to retain he current date and location
Subject to the options selected in the main program, an associated Basestation.sqb
will be updated
Selecting an entry in the ‘Unknowns’ list provides an option to save the details to the
‘Pending’ database for subsequent processing. Select the ‘Unknowns’ heading to move all to
pending. ‘Rld’ reloads the last list of unknowns

Show Logged
This option displays a panel of all log entries for the currently displayed aircraft, together with
logged operators and notes if present. The panel toggles on and off. Clicking the date line
highlights the entry and notes may then be added or edited, then stored using the ‘Update’
button. The grid can also be printed to a text file.
Entries may be viewed, edited or removed by selecting the entry and clicking the ‘View/Edit
Log Entry’ button. The ‘View/Edit Log Entry’ panel will display (see page 22)
Photo Mode
Add a list of registrations and process as above. The results can then be edited, notes added
etc and transferred to the Photo Log using the ‘Log Photos’ option
File Menu
Change Default DB
The default database is loaded at program start-up. It is changed by selecting from the
displayed list.
Colour Scheme
The background and text colours of the
main screen (form, panels, lists,
buttons, grid and text boxes) are
customisable.
 Click the colour boxes to
select new colours.
 Preset schemes are offered
but all are customisable.
 A gradient from one colour to
another across the screen is
set by selecting from
background left and right
options. Dark to light is
recommended
 Various text formats are
available
 The display format of the text
boxes can be changed via the
drop down boxes.

Import/Export Logs
This facility provides for the transfer or back up of the
main user databases to and from external drives
 Firstly Select Import or Export. Then select
the databases required and the path of the
external drive.
 Be aware that on import, the current database
files are overwritten
 To create a copy of the files on the current
device before the transfer, select the ‘Back
Up….’ option
 A selected path may be stored via the ‘Options’
menu, which can then be recalled via the
‘Stored Path’ button.
 Two paths may be stored, one whilst ‘Import’ is
selected and the other whilst ‘Export’ is
selected
Options > Restore Databases
Backed up full_log or type_log databases may be restored as the main ones. Backed up
Planebase3 files are held in the ‘c:\planebase\Database backup files’ folder with a date
suffix. Select the required one from the list. The current database will be copied into the
‘backup files’ folder with ‘replaced’ in the name and replaced by the selected one.
The type_log database respects the full_log, therefore both should be ‘restored’ from the
same date. Otherwise, once the full_log has been restored, the type log can be rebuilt via
the ‘Editlogs’ panel.

Options Menu
Auto PI Search
During a Current ID search, if the ID is not
found as extant, the history databases will
be searched automatically and a ‘History ID’
warning displayed if results found
Auto Reg Size
Grid and PI text is reduced in size where the
text would otherwise overrun the available
space
Confirm Exit
Requires confirmation to exit the program
Dash Auto Insert
Provides the automatic insertion of a dash ‘-‘
into civil registrations. It may require
disabling for certain serials, usually military.
Fill Blanks
Fills blanks in the grid display with dashes (---)
Flown Info
Subject to the data held in the Flightlog, on screen information will be displayed when a ‘flown
on’ aircraft is selected
Google Earth Data
Sets a link to Google Earth if installed on the PC.
 When an entry is searched or selected, if airport coordinates are held for its base the
'Base' text is highlighted by a white outline on the 'Base' line. Selecting this opens
Google Earth and zooms to that location
 Some, usually stored or displayed aircraft, have exact coordinates for the airframe
itself. In this case a 'GE' button is displayed to the right of the base text. A list of
available aircraft can be displayed by selecting 'Search > Co-ordinates' and those
contained in the *currently selected* database are listed.
 Selecting 'Base' search by 'Name' on the ‘Quicksearch’ panel brings up the search
panel. When a location with co-ordinates stored is selected from the drop-down a
'View in GE' button displays on the search panel, which will locate that location in GE.
Grid Alt Row Cols
Colours alternate rows on the grid with a colour as selected in the ‘Colours’ panel
Grid Lines
Toggles the list grid lines OFF or ON. The Default is ON.
Grid Population
Show grid populating or wait until complete (quicker). Only available in ‘Registration’ mode
Highlight Seen/WFU
Adds differing background colours for aircraft in the grid seen as ‘Frames’ and/or
‘Registrations’ (in Reg mode) with colours as set in the ‘Colours’ panel. Non active or ‘WFU’
entries are highlighted if not otherwise seen
IATA Airport Codes
Where there is an option, the IATA airport codes will be displayed, rather than the ICAO.

Info Beep
There will be an alert Beep with all error and information messages and prompts.
Additionally, with this option selected an alert beep will sound when a process completes
Info Messages
Occasional important information messages from the Planebase team will be displayed
Keyboard / On Top
Displays a screen keyboard for use in selected inputs. Can be set to remain ‘On Top’
Photo Details
Displays a details box when Photolog is enabled. Otherwise ‘Photo’ label is shown. Clicking
it shows the details panel.
Photolog Enabled
Enables the ‘Photolog’ photo logging feature. When enabled, an ‘Add Photo’ button will be
visible next to the ‘Log It’ button. If a photo is stored for an individual aircraft, when it is
searched or selected a lower panel displays with an option to select the url to display the
photo. Exit the panel by clicking the top line of text
Search Marks
Includes non-registration ‘marks’ in current ID searches
Snapshot C/N & Reg
When a registration is found during a Current ID search, a ‘snapshot’ of its position in the c/n
list or registration list will be displayed in the grid list. Only one may be selected at a time.
Selecting the ‘Current ID’ or ‘C/No.’ buttons in the field list have the same effect.
Type List Extended
The Type list is displayed in multi column format
USAF Quicksearch
Allows Current ID searches for USAF serials by entering the ‘last 5’ digits only. All results
found will be displayed, i.e entering ‘50125’ will show details for ‘75-0125’ and ’55-0125’ etc.
The option should be disabled when searching for non-USAF five number strings, i.e Swedish
‘86001’, as this would not be found.
Wide Locations
Widens the Seen History ‘location’ box for use where full location names are used rather than
codes.
Frames/Registration Mode
To allow for personal requirements, Single or Multiple registration sightings are possible.
Selecting 'Registration Mode' will display all sightings of the chosen frame. Selecting the
individual registration displays the date/where seen in the lower boxes. If there is only one
sighting, the details are automatically displayed. If the selected registration is not current it
will be highlighted in the relevant Previous ID’s box.
Selecting ‘Frame Mode’ option displays just the one set of seen/when/where details for the
frame. This ‘Frame’ mode also affects other functions and displays
Include Mil/GenAv/Helicopters in searches
To speed searches, the Military, GenAv or Helicopter databases may be excluded if not
required. If a database is included, significant speed advantages are possible by deselecting the ‘Scroll’ options. In this case the move forward/back <> scroll will not be
available for entries in these databases.

Backup
Automatic Back Up
During the ‘Import Exec/Airliner Logs’ process, the Log, Type, MyDB and Photo
databases are copied to the ‘C:\planebase\pb backup files’ folder and dated.
Delete After 30 Days
Dated backup files in the ‘Database backup files’ folder are deleted after 30 days
Secondary
Files may be backed up to a secondary location during the ‘Automatic Back Up’ process.

SQB Options
Updating options for a Basestation.sqb database when logging or printing to sqb:
Set Path ~ locate and store the basestation.sqb path
Show Path ~ display the stored SQB path
Add seen details ~ adds reg/date/location to the sqb ‘Usernotes’ field
Mark/Un-Mark Interested ~ remove interested marks during logging or add
interested marks when printing new data to the sqb
 Subject to the ‘Overwrite User Tag’ selection, ‘Mark User Tag Seen’ adds ‘Seen’
into the usertag field during logging
 Refresh BS/PP ~ when logging, BaseStation and/or PlanePlotter displays are

Default Symbol
Personalises the default symbols used in the data display. Enter up to six characters. Do not
use commas, speech marks, apostrophes, or exclamation marks. It is also best to avoid
using letters or numbers. Initial default is ‘<><><>’
Tools Menu
Back Up ‘Log Databases’
Copies the current ‘full_log’, ‘type_log’, ‘Mydb’, ‘Photo’ and ‘locn’ databases into the
‘Planebase’ backup folder with a date suffix.
Delete ‘Type Log’ Entry
Deletes an entry from the type_log. Select the aircraft (via the ‘Seen History’ box if relevant)
, select this option then confirm. To delete a ‘Full_log’ entry use the ‘Show Logged’ panel. It
is also possible to delete using ‘EditLogs’ (see below)

EditLogs
Provides a method of editing and changing the contents of logs. It should not be used for
general viewing, Viewlogs is designed for this.
PlanebaseNG consists of two separate databases. The ‘Full_log’ contains all logged entries
whether needed or not. The other ‘type_log’ databases contain only those aircraft ‘needed’,
split by section. This facility can edit both but they must be done individually, i.e an aircraft
deleted from the ‘Full_log’ must also be deleted from the ‘type’ log for it to display correctly in
PlanebaseNG.
Populating the grid
Selections MUST be made from the left hand panel :
Select the required database
Select a date or ‘ALL’ to show all dates
Select a location or ‘ALL’ (All dates and All locations is not available)
Select an aircraft type or ‘ALL’ from the populated drop down list
Select ‘Display’ and the log contents are displayed.
 To search a Date Range, tick the box and select an end date
 A single reg or prefix can be searched by typing into the ‘Reg’n’ box and <enter>
 Columns can be sorted by selecting the header
Grid Display
The display consists of the contents of the selected database. Depending on the original
contents of the log, these may not include certain fields such as an aircraft type. The
database code for each entry is displayed. Should logs have been transferred over but the
entry not reconciled the ‘Rx’ column will display an ‘n’. In ‘full_log’ mode, the ‘Nd’ field will
display an ‘F’ for frame ‘R’ for registration or ‘N’ for Not Needed.
Editing Entries
Select the relevant entry from the grid. The details will display in the lower boxes. They
may then be edited and the changes stored by selecting ‘Update’.
The displayed entry can be deleted from the selected log by choosing ‘Delete’.
*** Bear in mind that any edits/deletions made in the Full_log will either need to be
repeated in the individual Type_log table or the type tables rebuilt to reflect the changes in
the program ***

Bulk Processes Menu




Bulk Replace Date ~ replaces the date of all displayed entries
Bulk Replace Location ~ replaces the location of all displayed entries
Bulk Replace Operator ~ replaces the operator of all displayed entries
Bulk Delete ~ deletes all entries at a selected location on a selected date etc. The
option will not run if any selection is ‘ALL’.
Actions menu
Compact Databases
Compacts the full_log, type_log, mydb, photo and locn databases. The process involves
deleting the current databases. Should an error occur during the process a database
may be lost.
Databases are backed up into the ‘pb backup’ folder prior to the compacting. However it
is not necessary to compact databases unless large amounts of entries have been
deleted.
Compare Logs
All details held in the Type_log database should have a corresponding entry in the
Full_log database. However, when the information has been transferred over from certain
other databases, this may not be the case.
This option compares the information held in the databases and produces a report of any
records without a corresponding entry in the Full_log database. As well as being due to
missing entries, this may be due to conflicting index numbers.
Print Full Log
This will print a complete list of aircraft (needed or all) held in the full_log of aircraft in any
section, sorted by registration. The results may be printed to text or Excel (csv) format.
Registrations/Serials not containing a dash (except HL, JA and N) will be situated at the
end of the list.
Fill Types/ c/n /Series
These populate the full_log with the selected details. It is not required for the operation of
the program and increases the size of the database. Filling ‘Types’ however, will allow
them to be viewed and filtered in the EditLogs grid.
Rebuild Type Tables
This process will rebuild the type tables with the information from the full_log.
Any previous type_logs will be overwritten so it is essential that a log comparison has been
performed and any missing entries been added to the Full_log. Also a ‘Refresh First Seen
Details’ must have been performed.
To view these changes in the main screen, ‘Import Logs’ should be performed.
Reconcile Log and Database
This option compares the details held in the Full_log with the Planebase aircraft databases
and produces a report of any anomalies. These may be due to registration conflicts,
different index numbers or extraneous/ missing characters.
Refresh First Seen Details
This option will rearrange the ‘first seen’ details into date order in the Full_log. Once this
has been run, a ‘Rebuild Type Tables’ should be run to transfer the new details into the
type logs. A status code is also added indicating whether the entry was seen as a Frame,
Registration or Not needed.

Flightlog
A database of flights taken
Add Flight ~ The area re-colours yellow. Add text to the ‘Registration’ box and tab out. A
PlanebaseNG search will occur for that registration. If more than one instance is found a list
will appear for selecting the correct frame. The type, C/N and operator boxes will be
populated. Select from the operator drop down or overtype if required. The search excludes
Military and GA unless those boxes are ticked.




Select a column header to sort the grid by that column
If ‘Sort Down’ is selected, new entries will be added to the top of the grid
To delete an entry, select from the grid and click ‘Delete’.
Some columns may be widened via the <> buttons
Edit Flight ~ Select from the grid, edit the details displayed in the bottom panel then ‘Store’
 Additional details for the flight can be viewed by selecting an entry from the grid.
 If elapsed times are entered in format HH:MM a total can be displayed by selecting
‘Total Hrs’. Similarly the total distance can be displayed..
 The grid contents can be printed to a text file or Excel spreadsheet
Currently displayed Locations or Operators can be changed in bulk
Mail Set Up
Enter e-mail account details. If possible, port 25 and
no security should be used., otherwise the mail
password will need to be entered each time the mail
option is selected.
Port 465 is usually used with the SSL security
option.
Using the same source and destination addresses
may be an issue with some ISP’s
Once the details are entered and stored a test mail
can be sent.
* This setup is separate from that in Pblink and different settings may be used

Multi Type Filters
Create or edit a multi type filter. A list of current filters is displayed. Select from the list to
display its contents. To delete the selected filter select ‘Delete Filter’.
To add a new filter select ‘New Filter’. Each filter can only contain types from a single
database. Select a database from the drop down box and the list will be populated with
available types.
Select up to 15 types and they are displayed in the right side box. Enter a name for the filter
and select ‘create filter’. The filter will be added to the list, prefixed by ‘_’.
Exit to the main screen, select ‘Type’ and the filters will be located below the ‘.all’ filters in the
list.

Needs Lists (create/edit)
Needs lists consist of Airlines and types. When processed, a list of ‘needed aircraft’ is
created which may be printed. (processing is performed via the ‘search > needs lists’ option).
There are three types of lists :
Airport Needs Lists
Create a list of airports in ICAO or full name format. When run in ‘search’ mode a list of
‘needed’ aircraft based at those airports is created.
Operator Needs Lists
Create a list of operators in ICAO, IATA or full name format. When run in ‘search’ mode a
list of all ‘needed’ aircraft for those operators is created.
Operator + Type Needs Lists
Create a list of operators and types in ICAO, IATA or full name format. When run in
‘search’ mode a list of selected ‘needed’ aircraft for those operators is created.
Process
 Select between 'Operator + Type', 'Operator' or 'Airport'.
 The Current files will be listed (if any). Selecting one displays a list of its contents.
 To Delete a list select then click 'Delete List' and confirm.
 To Edit a list select then click 'Edit List'. The text file will open in 'notepad' for editing
and saving.
Create New List
Select between 'Operator + Type', 'Operator' or 'Airport'
Manual Lists
There are two compilation options, manual and auto. Choosing ‘Manual’ then selecting
‘Create New List’ will ask for a file name, then opens a text file in Notepad. Instructions for
text format are on the first line of the file and can remain. ‘Operator’ can be ICAO, IATA or
full name format, Airport can be ICAO or full name format. Operator and type should be
separated by a dash, i.e ‘BAW-777’, ‘BA-777’ or ‘British Airways-777’. Save the file when
complete. The full name format must match that used in Planebase

Auto Lists
Selecting 'Auto' displays a list of Airports or Operators. 'Sort list' is an option to retain the
order in which you select text or have it sorted into alphabetical order
Select 'Create New List'.
Airport Needs
A list of airports is populated. Select those required and they will be transferred to the
right hand box
Operator Needs
Select from a list of available operator types from the drop down box. The second box
will be populated with available operators. Selecting from this list adds the text to the
right side box.
Operator + Type
Select a list of required operators from the drop down box, 'Airlines', ‘Biz Jets’ or
'Military'. The second box will be populated with available operators. Selecting from
this list populates the third box with a list of types operated by that operator. Selecting
from this list adds the text to the right side box in the required format..
Create File
When the selection is complete select 'create file'. There is a prompt for a file name
which should be entered with no suffix (which will be added automatically). The file list
will be updated with the new file.

 Prefix ~ a registration prefix can be searched, length optional
 Type ~ enter the first characters, i.e ‘A3’ will display all Airbuses, ‘A32’ will display
A320 and A321 etc

 Location/Operator/Date ~ select from the list
Add Photo
A panel is displayed. Select whether it is necessary to include the Mil/GA databases as this
slows the search. Enter the registration and tab out of the box. The registration will be
searched and if found details will be added. If multiple entries are found a selection box is
displayed.
Complete the other fields as required. Select the ‘URL’ button and navigate to the photo or
enter it manually. Select ‘Store’ to add the photo to the database or ‘Clear’ to exit the panel.

Amarg List
Creates a list of aircraft held at Amarg in type and serial order
Boeing Series Code
Enter a code as two or three digits, ie '36' for all British Airways aircraft or '236' for all series
200 aircraft. Subject to the Show Aircraft and Status options, results are displayed in type,
series and c/no order and are printable.
Be aware that Boeing no longer allocate customer codes
Base Country
Enter a country registration prefix to list aircraft based in that country in a text file
Build Location
Enter an IATA airport code to list aircraft built at that location
Callsign
Searches a single fixed callsign and if found, details of the aircraft are shown on the main
display. This option is only available within the Biz Jets database
Code
Enter a tail code to list aircraft carrying that code
Continent
Aircraft registered in a specific continent can be listed in registration order. Select the area
from the drop down box
Due to the large numbers involved a count may be displayed while the list is being populated.
This option is not available in the Military database
Constructor
Searches the current database for all entries for a constructor selected from the list
Co-ordinates
Lists aircraft for which co-ordinates are held
Country
Enter a registration prefix to list aircraft registered in that country. Use ‘PP-‘ for all Brazil, ‘XA‘ for all Mexico, ‘VP’ for Bermuda
Fixed Callsign List
Displays a text document of known fixed callsigns (Bizjets only)
Full Database
ONE full database can be listed, sorted by the selected options. Due to the size of the
databases, this operation may take some time.
Hex Code (by Hex Prefix)
Enter the first digits of a Hex code, number immaterial
Hex Code (by Country Prefix)
Searches by a country registration prefix
History Prefix
Displays all current & previously registered aircraft in the current database with an entered
prefix. For example, enter ‘LX’ to display all biz jets that have been registered LX- and their
fates. The default fate shown is the 'current' reg. To display the subsequent registration

instead, tick the box in the input panel.
A frame that has had the same registration more than once will display for each occurrence.
History Type Prefix
This search displays a full list of a type that has carried a certain prefix, for example all OYCaravelles etc. Subject to the selected database a list of types is displayed. Multiple types
may be selected from the list. Enter the required prefix and ‘Search’
Information Field
The information field is searched for a text string, subject to the databases selected.
Registered Month
Aircraft registered in the selected month in the selected database(s) are displayed. Military
and Russian aircraft are excluded.
Reserved
Searches the reserved field for a registration
Reserved List
A list of current reservations is produced from the chosen database.
SearchFour
Searches the currently selected database for text found in the current & previous registration
fields plus the code and information fields
Suffix
Lists instances of a suffix which may be any length, subject to the selected database
Total Seen
 Current DB ~ The total number of frames seen in the current database is displayed
alongside total registrations logged in that database
 All Databases ~ a total of all registrations logged
 Location ~ enter an airport code and a total of aircraft logged as needed at that
location will be displayed
Count Types
After selecting this option, any choice from the Type lists will display a count of frames seen
for that type. The option should be deselected to resume normal type searches and is not
retained

Reports Menu
Main Reports
This facility provides a method of creating and saving user defined reports.
To order the columns to be shown in the report, drag the required column\field onto the yellow
grid. Up to 10 columns can be selected.
Most of the information contained within the columns is fairly self evident.
Reg 1 holds the first registration that the aircraft held, and has been added to meet the needs
of users who want to be able to see the initial registration allocated when visiting production
facilities. Type 1 holds the longer name of the aircraft type e.g. Boeing 737 NG, Type 2 holds
a shorter name of the aircraft type e.g. 737NG
The columns can be removed by double clicking on the column. To remove all columns click
on the Clear Layout option.
To chose the search criteria initially select the Source Database. This will the populate many
of the other boxes. Further selections can then be made. For example to see all 747’s select
Boeing 747 from the Type box. To just show those 747’s that are Active change the Status to
Active.
The Show drop box has 4 options, namely:
a) All – show all aircraft that meet the specified criteria.
b) All Needed – show all aircraft needed as a frame or registration based on the criteria
specified.
c) Frames Needed – show all aircraft needed as a frame based on the criteria specified.
d) All Seen – show all aircraft frames that have been seen based on the criteria specified.
To show full details of when the frame was seen click on the Include full details button.
To have a Tick Box in the report showing whether the aircraft has been seen click on the
Include Tick Box button. In the resulting output:
[/] - means that the aircraft has been seen with that registration.
[-] - means that the aircraft has been seen but not with that registration.
[ ] - means that the aircraft has not been seen.
To include details from other databases click on the buttons specified under the Search
Database heading. For example to enquire on details for Flybe ensure that both the Jets and
Props buttons have been selected.
The ‘Filter Hex codes’ option restricts the search to aircraft with Hex codes

Once the required search criteria has been set specify the Sort order.
At least one selection must be made from the central white drop downs or text entered into
the reg’d/Prefix/Dash boxes, or ‘Filter Hex codes’ selected.
To save a layout for future use select the Save Layout option and when requested give a
name to the layout. . A default layout can be stored to load that layout when the panel is
opened.
To load a layout that has been previously saved select the Load Layout option and when
requested specify the required layout name
To Create the Report, select the destination, the option toggles ‘Excel’, ‘.csv File’ or ‘Text File’
and click on the ‘Create Report’ button. To retain the report and prevent it from being
subsequently overwritten rename and save the Excel worksheet. If the Report workbook is
open when a subsequent Report is created then an error message is given.
Type/locn report produces a text file listing totals of aircraft by location or year subject to the
selected options.
Other Reports
Country Base List
Enter a registration prefix to create a text or Excel list of locations and registrations of aircraft
based in that country, subject to the panel options. An asterisk denotes a required frame, an
apostrophe denotes a registration only.
Country Opr List
Enter a registration prefix to create a text or Excel list of operators and registrations of aircraft
operated by them, subject to the panel options. An asterisk denotes a required frame, an
apostrophe denotes a registration only.
Excel Reports
A selection of analytical reports are produced in MS Excel format via this menu . Microsoft
Excel must be present on the device and internet connection is required. An option is
provided for pre-Office 2007 software.
Needs Lists Search
Needs lists that have been created via the ‘Tools > Need Lists Edit’ option are searched.
Select the type of list from the drop down box. Stored lists are displayed.
For ‘Airports’ and ‘Operators’ selecting from this list will bring up the option panel to select
databases to include in the search.
Selecting ‘Operator + Type’ gives two options. If selected, ‘Abbreviated List’ displays the
results in multiple columns instead of a single column. ‘Include not needed info’ displays all
aircraft for a particular operator whether seen or not. A needed indicator is included.
 The ‘Abbreviated list’ option produces a ‘horizontal’ list, whereas the default is
vertical.
 The fleet number may be included
 A ‘tick’ box may also be added.
A drop down box gives an option to print to text, Word or Excel. If the option to include ‘on
order’ aircraft is selected, the resulting printout denotes these with a ‘~’
Run the process by selecting from the file list. The results are displayed in the data grid and
also in text or Word format.

Viewlogs
This section provides a method of viewing the full_log under various parameters
On first opening the screen, there will be a short wait whilst the data is compiled and the drop
down lists populated. Data is compiled from the Planebase databases and formats may differ
from those contained in the logs themselves
Search options are as follows:

Show ~ Needed, Not needed, Frames, Registrations
Sort ~ Date, Reg, Opr & Reg, Type & Reg
Date/Date Range
Location, Type and Operator ~ compiled from details held in the log
Prefix ~ Logged Registration prefix

Single Registration
Selecting ‘Display’ will list the results in the grid. The ‘St’ column will show F, R or N
indicating whether the entry was seen as a Frame, Registration only or Not required.
 A total count is shown
 The Location and Type Columns may be expanded as required
 The grid contents may be printed as Text, Excel or Word
Note: Depending on the contents of your full_log, some fields may not populate. If required,
the ‘St’ column may be populated by using the ‘Tools>Editlogs>Actions>Refresh First Seen
Details’ option.

Word Book
Produces a ‘book’ of aircraft in ‘Microsoft Word’ format subject to the chosen parameters. A
full version of MS Word must be installed on the PC.
** Depending on the selections made, some of the following options may not be available:
Selection
Individual or multiple sections can be included. However the options are restricted to
Bizjets/Bizprops OR Jets/Props/Russian. Other databases are not available.
Options
‘Include Military’ ~ Includes all military aircraft in the selected tables. Most
Government VIP aircraft are included by default.
‘Mil/VIP Only’ ~ Displays only Military and Government/VIP aircraft in the selected
tables
‘Include Exec-Liners’ ~ Includes private aircraft designated as ‘Exec-Liners’, for
example Legacy’s, ACJ’s or BBJ’s that are located in the ‘Jets’ table
‘Exec-Liners Only’ ~ only displays the aircraft described above
‘Exclude On-order’ ~ On-order entries are displayed, suffixed by an asterisk, unless
this option is selected

Region
The results may be limited to geographical region(s), or to a particular country, whose civil
registration prefix should be entered.
Ops to Europe/UK ~ The search can be limited to aircraft likely to be seen in Europe or
the UK. ** An internet connection is required for this option
Text
Subject to the log details held and the Frame/Registration mode selected, the aircraft
entries may be marked by symbols selected from drop down boxes, and/or the text
displayed in selected colours.
Seen entries can be underlined. In ‘Registration’ mode, there are options to Underline All
Seen entries, or just Underline Seen Reg’s Only.
List Needed Only will display unseen entries. In registration mode, unseen registrations
are listed irrespective of frame sightings. Airlines with no unseen entries are listed as
names only.
Page numbers may be included
Text Version produces a basic text version of the document. Options such as font size /
colours / underline are not available in this case
Font type and size may be changed, however bear in mind the effect larger fonts will have
on the document formatting.
Display
Subject to the other parameters selected, aircraft details displayed can be chosen from the
following options:



Reg/Serial, Full Type and C/No
Reg/Serial, ICAO Type, C/No and Base ICAO
Reg/Serial, ICAO Type, C/No and Operator ICAO
Include
If ‘Prefix Only’ is selected, only aircraft with the selected prefix will be listed. If ‘Base
Country’ is selected, all aircraft based in that country will be listed, irrespective of the
registration prefix.
Sort By
Within an operator, the displayed order can be sorted by reg/serial, or by type then
reg/serial via the dropdown
Note:
There will be occasions where an airline domiciled in one country has aircraft based in
another, subsequently these may be displayed under the airline heading in the foreign based
country.
Also, under certain options, foreign aircraft registered in countries outside the selected region,
but based within the selected region, will be listed under their prefix countries heading.
The document is created by selecting the ‘Create’ button

Print Menu
The contents of the main grid can be
printed in several formats which are
selected using the ‘Destination’ drop down
box:
Print To options
 Text File - Print to a text file named 'c:\Planebase\Planebaseprint.txt' which will
display on the screen once printed.
 Word Document ~ Prints to ‘MS Word’ if installed
 Excel Spreadsheet ~ prints major fields. The printed details will open in an MS Excel
spreadsheet. An additional hex code option is available when this is selected but a
‘select fields’ option is not.
 CSV File ~ prints major fields. The details will open in a text file
 Excel Report ~ prints an extended range of fields to Excel
 E-Mail ~ subject to the stored e-mail settings, the current contents of the grid will be
sent by e-mail
 SQB Database ~ Basic details such as Reg, Type, C/n, ICAO codes and operator
are written to a selected Basestation.sqb file for entries in the grid that have a HEX
code listed in the PlanebaseNG databases. The print may be limited to Reg and
ICAO type only. The sqb location can be stored via the ‘Options’ menu.
Other than printing to the SQB database, it is possible to print symbols to indicate whether the
aircraft has been seen as a frame or registration. These default to ‘>’ and ‘-‘ but can be
changed by entering the required symbol in the appropriate box. These symbols will be
remembered.
* seen symbols sent to an e-mail are not an option due to a confliction in formats.
 Whilst printing multiple columns the aircraft type may be abbreviated for layout
purposes by checking the box (default is ‘ON’)
 Whilst printing a ‘Log’ it is possible to locate the symbols before or after the
registration. The default ‘after’ setting is null for a frame and an asterisk for a reg.
Logs default to printing on a single line. When in ‘Frame’ mode no indicators will be
printed.
Single Column
Prints details of the aircraft displayed in the main list on one line per aircraft, displaying
registration, type, c/n and operator.

Multiple Columns
Prints details of the aircraft displayed in the main list in multiple columns on an A4 sheet.
Choose from the field options in the drop down box. Two fields will print in four columns,
three will print three and four will print in two columns.
The font may be varied, however display issues may occur with larger sizes
Downloads Menu
The ‘Downloads’ panel is loaded
This panel is used for downloading databases, program
updates, other downloads plus importing log data
 A message will display when database download is
available
 The option will be disabled until a new update is
available
 If you are not interested in Military or GA it is not
necessary to regularly download these updates
Download Databases
If the Exec/Airliners, Military and GenAv databases updates are available they can be

unzipped and double clicked to extract and install it.

Import Logs
This option is for the import of details held in the log databases. This must be run each
time an updated database is downloaded to view the logged details and speed the
consequent operation of the program.
Latest Program Version
The ‘Download’ option downloads the latest file which should to be unzipped and run
(double clicked). The program should then open.
Other Downloads
A selection of other files available for download are listed. If required, unzip and run the
files by double clicking.
 Admin should be only be selected when advised by Planebase support.
 Reset User is used when it is required enter a revised user name and email
address

Searches selected web sites for details of the currently displayed aircraft
Clear Menu
Clears the current aircraft details and lists.
Help Menu
File Check
Checks that the folder and databases required for the program are present and reports any
omissions. Any missing folders will be created. A display of database dates is included.

This option sets database parameters and should only be selected on advice from the

Support Request / Update Data Request
This creates an addressed e-mail for contacting the Planebase team in regards to technical
issues, suggestions and data update requests. Select the database to be amended. Current
Screen Entry’ adds details of the currently displayed record to the e-mail.
User Portal
Links to the Planebase User Portal where User management can be performed
Version/Disclaimer
Displays the current version number and date.
