3 Introduction VIPCOS – The

V

onamic

IP Co

mmunication

S

ystem

VIPCOS is a serverless, ethernet based communication system for intercom, public address and general alarm developed for challenging requirements.

In contrast to conventional communication systems VIPCOS works serverless and operates without any central controls. Each subscriber has to the entire software on board, which enables the connection to other subscribers. This ensures highest system reliability.

The operation and configuration of VIPCOS is easy. Each unit is accessible via web browser.

The configuration can be stored and restored.

Up to 9.000 subscribers can communicate in a system, in extended networks even more.

Analogue and digital call stations can easily be integrated via adaptors and gateways; telephone networks (ISDN) can be interfaced. The connection to VIPCOS VoIP units is established via Ethernet. Furthermore, each unit can be configured as a SIP client, which offers the possibility of directly integrating it into SIP systems.

VIPCOS can be extended modularly by using standard network components and it features excellent speech intelligibility through a bandwidth of 20Hz to 20 kHz.

The system safety is ensured by high redundancy (up to n + n) and cyclic monitoring of the system performance. Another advantage of VIPCOS is the low basic investment, especially for smallest systems. The smallest possible system consists of two subscribers without any central exchange. The two call stations simply have to be connected to the Ethernet and are operational.

VIPCOS can be integrated into an existing infrastructure of analogue and digital intercom systems. It is easy to maintain and operate.

The network capacity is between 65 Kbit/s (G711 and G722) and 705 Kbit/s (PCMA 44,1 kHz).

VIPCOS is able to stream multi- as well as unicast. Multicast is used for group calls, which drastically decreases the network load. The latency of VIPCOS is <50ms.

The system is easy to install due to standard patch cables and connectors.

4.1 VIPCOS Desktop Call Station V 640

The VIPCOS desktop call station V 640 enables users to connect directly to other call stations, loudspeakers, third party SIP clients, etc. It can be programmed individually and has a backlit

LC display that visualizes functions and information received from remote stations.

A memory for acoustic signals and pre recorded messages is on board.

Incoming calls are indicated during ongoing calls. The VIPCOS V640 call station’s voice bandwidth lies between 100 Hz to 16 kHz full- and half duplex.

Due to the system’s decentralized design, the call station represents an intelligent entity in its own right. For example, it displays error messages both optically and acoustically, whenever other devices (such as call stations or amplifiers) break down, when one’s own call station’s connection to the network node is interrupted or when the entire network node fails completely.

If a call station can no longer connect to other subscribers, an error message is displayed onscreen. In addition, operators are alerted by a buzzing sound as well as by the flashing of a pre-configured key.

4.1.1 V 640 Design

The device’s basic housing contains at least eight keys. The number of keys can be progressively extended to a maximum of 256 by removing blind plates, by incorporating eightpart button strips as well as by flange-mounting additional housings. The loudspeaker volume can be adjusted using keys. The digital call station can be connected using one or more network cables (two RJ 45 sockets for one network or for ring networks rapid spanning tree).

Voltage can be supplied using a separate power input or via Power over Ethernet (PoE).

4.3 VIPCOS Weather Proof Call Station V 615

The VIPCOS weatherproof call station V615 has 1 ... 3 double toggle keys for 2 ... 6 lines or alternatively 2 double toggle keys plus keypad. It can be extended with up to 3 additional housings with further 6 lines each.

The call station can be easily integrated to the VIPCOS system by connecting it directly to the

Ethernet or in order to bypass longer distances via digital UP0 gateway.

To ensure optimal communication between call stations, it is possible to adapt the call station to varying degrees of background noise by individually adjusting microphone and loudspeaker amplification. The call station is delivered with an additional, built-in 40W amplifier for integrating and operating a local loudspeaker circuit. There are several ways of using the additional amplifier, for example:

All incoming intercom/PA announcements are transmitted by the additional amplifier and the associated additional loudspeaker.

The additional amplifier and associated loudspeaker can be used for local PA announcements from a call station microphone.

4.3.1 V 615 Design

The weatherproof call station is made of fiber-glass reinforced polyester and has an orange-colored housing.

The housing (500 X 120 X 180 mm) is dust-protected and splash-proof in accordance with the requirements of DIN EN 60529

(protection class IP 66).

The front panel contains a microphone, a loudspeaker as well as up to three key inserts with integrated line lamps.

The VIPCOS PA controller V1000 is an entire PA system for 100 Volt loudspeaker systems.

Via Ethernet it can be integrated easily into the VIPCOS communication system.

The PA controller has an integrated 400W power amplifier on board and can operate up to six loudspeaker lines or 3 loudspeaker loops.

The PA controller is continuously monitored via an additional PA controller. In case of a failure, short circuit, interruption, earth connection or impedance changes, actual settings are transferred to the hot standby unit. The impedance measuring is carried out with an accuracy of

<5% with a possibility to program the tolerances in steps of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 %.

Main and minor failures can be transferred via dry contacts to third party equipment.

The device has two Ethernet connections with Rapid Spanning Tree for integration into the

VIPCOS system. The LCD-display shows the status and failure reporting.

Further the V1000 has a DSP for loudness, bass and treble.

A built-in controlled memory for pre-recorded messages or alarm tones is easy to access via network.

The power supply is between 24 – 56VDC and/or 230VAC.

Any number of these PA controllers can be in a system, hot standby units are optional.

4.9 VIPCOS IP Loudspeakers

VIPCOS IP loudspeakers are easy to install and designed for a direct integration into the

VIPCOS network. The VoIP loudspeaker is powered via PoE. The IP loudspeakers operating serverless and do not need any further central exchange or amplification. The network loudspeaker can be addressed individually or in groups and can receive audio files directly from the network streamer VIPCOS Blaster or accessed via any VIPCOS call station.

Further it can be integrated in any SIP network.

Depending on the surroundings and the application, the expectations regarding a reliable irradiation and communication system may vary.

The low power consumption allows for a supply by Power over Ethernet, thus rendering a local power supply redundant. The characteristics of the IP loudspeaker can be configured freely meeting your individual requirements, e.g. such as a simple implementation of group memberships and SIP configuration.

Unconfined operational readiness is the top priority when using the IP loudspeakers. This is guaranteed by a permanent and logical monitoring in the serverless units.

Alternatively, the operational safety can be synchronized on the universally recognized network protocol SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), thus guaranteeing a reliable system monitoring.

Due to standardized interfaces and protocols communication and configuration will become very easy. Hardware configuration, software updates and changes of the loudspeakers are carried out via a standard web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. This enables a simple and safe handling.

4.9.1 Network Monitor Box VIPCOS V530

The VIPCOS 530 monitor loudspeaker offers premium sound quality for acoustic background irradiation even at medium and low acoustic pressure. The loudspeaker is excellently suitable for a wide variety of applications such as in offices, restaurants, department stores and cafes.

Due to its rotary ball joint the VIPCOS 530 is easy to install and to position. It is connected to the network with a standard RJ 45 connection. Power is supplied by PoE.

The VIPCOS 530 is easy to install and therefore does not need an additional 100V cabling or control centres. The network loudspeaker can be addressed individually and can emit audio files in CD quality. These files can be fed into the network via the network streamer

VIPCOS Blaster.

The loudspeaker can also be embedded directly into the Vonamic IP Communication

System (VIPCOS). Thus, a fully functional intercom system can be realized with just one loudspeaker and the desk top call station
