This product features the copy protection function developed by Macrovision. Copy protection signals are recorded on some discs. When recording and playing the pictures of these discs picture noise will appear. This product incorporates copyright protection technology that is protected by U.S. patents and other intellectual property rights. Use of this copyright protection technology must be authorized by Macrovision, and is intended for home and other limited viewing uses only unless otherwise authorized by Macrovision. Reverse engineering or disassembly is prohibited.

You have to set the disc format option to [Mastered] in order to make the discs compatible with the LG players when formatting rewritable discs. When setting the option to Live File System, you cannot use it on LG players.

POWER: This unit operates on a mains supply of

200-240V~, 50/60Hz.

WIRING: This unit is supplied with a BSI 1363 approved

13 amp mains plug, fused at 5 amp. When replacing the fuse always use a 5 amp BS 1362, BSI or ASTA approved type. Never use this plug with the fuse cover omitted.

To obtain a replacement fuse cover contact your dealer.

If the type of plug supplied is not suitable for the mains sockets in your home, then the plug should be removed and a suitable type fitted. Please refer to the wiring instructions below:

WIRING: A mains plug removed from the mains lead of this unit must be destroyed. A mains plug with bared wires is hazardous if inserted in a mains socket. Do not connect either wire to the earth pin, marked with the letter E or with the earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow. If any other plug is fitted, use a 5 amp fuse, either in the plug, or at the distribution board.

IMPORTANT: The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following codes:

- BLUE: NEUTRAL, BROWN: LIVE As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this unit may not correspond with the coloured marking identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.

The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.

JPEG files. Some DVD±RW/DVD±R or CD-

RW/CD-R cannot be played on this unit due to the recording quality or physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device and authoring software.

Regional Codes

This unit has a regional code printed on the rear of the unit. This unit can play only DVD discs labeled same as the rear of the unit or

“ALL”.

• Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your unit’s regional code or the disc cannot play.

• If you try to play a DVD with a different regional code from your unit, the message

“Check Regional Code” appears on the TV screen.

• We recommend that you use Easy-CD

Creator, which creates an ISO 9660 file system.

• Some discs may not operate due to a different recording format or the condition of disc.

• The file name of the DivX subtitle should be entered within 45 characters.

Draw the speaker wire through the inside of the pole and also through the hole on the bottom of the speaker.

Connect the speaker wire to the terminal on the speaker.

Make sure the wire marked black goes in to the terminal marked “–” (minus) and the other wire goes in to the terminal marked

“+” (plus).

Attach the speaker to the pole, the secure the connection with a supplied screw.

CAUTION

Be careful that the speaker should not fall down.

Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunctioning and causing personal injury and/ or property damage.

Mounting the speakers to a wall

3. Hang the speaker bracket onto the wall bracket.

You can mount the speakers to a wall. Prepare screws and brackets supplied.

1. Attach the wall bracket to the wall with screws as shown in the illustration below.

When you mount to a wall (concrete) use the wall plugs. (supplied)

Attaching the speakers to the unit

1. Connect the wires to the unit.

Match each wire’s colored band to the same colored connection terminal on the rear of the unit. To connect the cable to the unit, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminal. Insert the wire and release the finger pad.

To connect the cable to the speakers, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminals on the base of each speaker. Insert the wire and release the finger pad.

Connect the black end of each wire to the terminals marked -(minus) and the other end to the terminals marked + (plus).

. Connect the wires to the speakers.

Connect the other end of each wire to the correct speaker according to the color coding:

CAUTION

Be careful to make sure children not to put their hands or any objects into the *speaker duct.

*Speaker duct: A hall for plentiful bass sound on speaker cabinet (enclosure).

Positioning the system

The following illustration shows an example of positioning the system. Note that the illustrations in these instructions differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes.

For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be placed at the same distance from the listening position (

Place the front speakers to the sides of the monitor or screen and as flush with the screen surface as possible.

Place the center speaker above or below the monitor or screen.

Place these speakers behind your listening position, facing slightly inwards.

The position of the subwoofer is not so critical, because low bass sounds are not highly directional. But it is better to place the subwoofer near the front speakers. Turn it slightly toward the center of the room to reduce the wall reflections.

Make one of the following connections, depending on the capabilities of your existing equipment.

NOTE

• Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect the unit. Use only one of the connections described in this manual.

• Please refer to the manuals of your TV, Stereo

System or other devices as necessary to make the best connections.

• Make sure the unit is connected directly to the TV. Tune the TV to the correct video input channel.

• Do not connect your unit via your VCR. The image could be distorted by the copy protection system.

• Not all HDCP-compatible HDMI or DVI devices will work with this unit.

- The picture will not be displayed properly with non-HDCP device.

- This unit does not playback and TV screen is changed to black or green screen or the snow noise may occur on the screen.

• If there is noise or lines on the screen, please check the HDMI cable and usea higher version cable than 1.2A HDMI cable.

CAUTION

• Changing the resolution when the connection has already been established may result in malfunctions. To solve the problem, turn off the unit and then turn it on again.

• When the HDMI connection with HDCP is not verified, TV screen is changed to black or green screen or the snow noise may occur on the screen. In this case, check the the HDMI connection, or disconnect the HDMI cable.

Connect the HDMI IN 1 or HDMI IN 2 jack on the unit to the HDMI output jack on your Set-

HDMI IN 2 by pressing t RADIO&INPUT .

To display and exit the Setup menu

By using the Setup menu, you can make various adjustments to items such as picture and sound.

Automatically displays the wide picture on the entire screen and cuts off the portions that do not fit. (If the disc/file is not compatible with Pan Scan, the picture is displayed at Letterbox ratio.)

Resolution

Sets the output resolution of the Component and HDMI video signal. Refer to “Resolution

Setting” for details about the resolution (page

[Auto]

If the HDMI OUT jack is connected to

TVs providing display information (EDID), automatically selects the resolution best suited to the connected TV. If the

COMPONENT VIDEO OUT is only connected, this changes the resolution to 480i (or 576i) as default resolution.

[1080p]

Outputs 1080 lines of progressive video.

[1080i]

Outputs 1080 lines of interlaced video.

Make the following settings for the built-in 5.1 channel surround decoder.

After you connected speakers to your unit, set the Distance between the speakers and your listening point if the distance of Center or Rear speakers is bigger than the distance of Front speakers. This allows the sound from each speaker to reach the listener at the same time. Press I i to adjust the

Distance of the selected speaker. This distance is equivalent to a difference of the distance between Center or Rear speaker and Front speakers.

[Test]

Select [Speaker Test Start] by using the U u and press  ENTER . Press  ENTER again to stop. Adjust the volume to match the volume of test signals memorized in the system.

DRC (Dynamic Range Control)

Make the sound clear when the volume is turned down (Dolby Digital only). Set to [On] for this effect.

Vocal

Select [On] to mix karaoke channels into normal stereo.

This function is effective for multi-channel karaoke DVDs only.

HD AV Sync

Sometimes Digital TV encounters a delay between picture and sound. If this happens you can compensate by setting a delay on the sound so that it effectively ‘waits’ for the picture to arrive: this is called HD AV Sync. Use U u

(on the remote control) to scroll up and down through the delay amount, which you can set at anything between 0 and 300m sec.

Lock (Parental Control)

Initial Setting the Area Code:

When you use this unit for the first time, you have to set the Area Code.

1.

Select the [Lock] menu and then press i .

2.

Press i .

To access the [Lock] options, you must input the password you have created. Input a password and press  ENTER . Enter it again and press  ENTER to verify. If you make a mistake before pressing  ENTER , press CLEAR .

Rating

Blocks playback of rated DVDs based on their contents. Not all discs are rated.

Rating one (1) has the most restrictions and rating eight (8) is the least restrictive.

The screen saver appears when you leave the unit in Stop mode for about five minutes.

Starting play from selected time

To start playing at any chosen time on the file or title.

1.

Press INFO./DISPLAY during playback.

2.

Press U u to select the time clock icon and

“--:--:--” appears.

3.

Input the required start time in hours, minutes, and seconds from left to right. If you enter the wrong numbers, press CLEAR to remove the numbers you entered. Then input the correct numbers.

For example, to find a scene at 1 hour, 10 minutes, and 20 seconds, enter “11020” by using numerical buttons.

4.

Press  ENTER to confirm. Playback starts from the selected time.

Resume playback

DVD DivX ACD MP3 WMA

The unit records the point where you pressed the x (STOP) depending on the disc.

If “ Xx (Resume Stop)” appears on the screen briefly, press B (PLAY) , MONO/STEREO to resume playback (from the scene point).

If you press x (STOP) twice or unload the disc,

“ x ”(Complete Stop) appears on the screen.

The unit will clear the stopped point.

NOTE

The resume point may be cleared when a button is pressed (for example; 1 (POWER) , Z OPEN/

CLOSE , etc).

Sleep Timer Setting

Press SLEEP one or more times to select delay time between 10 and 180 minutes, after the unit will turn off.

To check the remaining time, press SLEEP .

To cancel the sleep function, press SLEEP repeatedly until “SLEEP 10” appears, and then press SLEEP once again while “SLEEP 10” is displayed.

Last Scene Memory

Listening to the radio

1.

Press t RADIO&INPUT until FM appears in the display window.

The last received station is tuned in.

Press and hold TUNING (-/+) for about two seconds until the frequency indication starts to change, then release. Scanning stops when the unit tunes in a station.

3.

Adjust the volume by rotating VOLUME on the front panel or by pressing VOL (+/- )on the remote control repeatedly.

Presetting the Radio Stations

You can preset 50 stations for FM.

Before tuning, make sure that you have turned down the volume.

Recording to USB

You can record music or sound souce to USB device by connecting in to the port on the unit.

Connect the USB device to the unit.

Select a mode in which you want to record.

• The files in the sub-folders are not recorded during all track recording.

• You may not record more than 999 files.

• The nunbering of the recording file is entered from the lowest number. So if you delete some of the recording files, the next recording file could be the lowest number among them.

- Be sure to use the video connection through the VIDEO OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit. Select the appropriate video input mode on the TV.

- Depending on the iPod, make sure that select Videos > Video settings, and then set TV Out to Ask or On from your iPod.

- The viewing photos is available only if this unit is in iPod IN mode and you can view photos only as a slide show. You have to start a slide show on your iPod to view a photo on a TV. For details about a slide show, refer to the iPod User Guide.

• Before connecting the iPod, turn this unit off and reduce the volume of this unit to its minimum.

• If you turn this unit on, your iPod is automatically turned on and recharging starts.

Handling Discs

Never stick paper or tape on the disc.

Storing Discs

After playing, store the disc in its case. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or sources of heat and never leave it in a parked car exposed to direct sunlight.

Cleaning Discs

Do not use strong solvents such as alcohol, benzine, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for older vinyl records.

When shipping the unit

Please save the original shipping carton and packing materials. If you need to ship the unit, for maximum protection, re-pack the unit as it was originally packed at the factory.

Keeping the exterior surfaces clean

• Do not use volatile liquids such as insecticide spray near the unit.

• Wiping with strong pressure may damage the surface.

• Do not leave rubber or plastic products in contact with the unit for a long period of time.

Cleaning the unit

To clean the player, use a soft, dry cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use strong solvents such as alcohol, benzine, or thinner, as these might damage the surface of the unit.

Maintaining the Unit

GUARANTEE

• LG Electronics U.K. Ltd. will provide the following services in order toexpedite this Guarantee.

1. All faulty components which fail due to defective manufacture will be replaced free of charge for a period of 12 months from the original date of purchase.

2. The dealer (or his service agent) who sold the product will be reimbursed for any labour provided in the repair of this LG equipment, for a period of 12 months from the original date of purchase. These claims must be made in accordance with the published scale of service charges and relevant claims procedure.

PLEASE NOTE:

A. The dealer may restrict the guarantee to the original purchaser.

B. The dealer is not obliged to carry out service under guarantee if unauthorized modifications are made to the apparatus, or if non standard components are used or if the serial number of the apparatus is removed, defaced, misused, or altered.

C. Any claims made under guarantee must be directed to the dealer from whom the equipment was originally purchased. The dealer may, before carrying out service under guarantee, require a receipted account as evidence of the date of purchase.

D. We respectfully point out that your dealer is not obligated to replace batteries if they become exhausted or worn in use.

E. Aerial alignment and consumer control adjustments are not covered by this guarantee.

This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.

REQUIREMENTS TO MAINTAIN WARRANTY COVERAGE:

RETAIN YOUR RECEIPT TO PROVE DATE OF PURCHASE. A COPY OF YOUR RECEIPT MUST BE SURRENDERED

AT THE TIME GUARANTEE SERVICE IS PROVED.

Product Registration Card :

It is helpful to complete at least your name, address, phone, model & serial numbers and return it. This will enable LG to assist you in the future should you lose your receipt, your units be stolen, or should modifications be necessary.
