Method of connection This is connected to the exchange line or PABX/PMBX (Private Automatic; Manual Branch Exchange) extension by the new standard British Telecom plug and socket. There is a possibility of occurrence of overhearing between cordless telephones operating on the same radio channel. And such interference may increase with greater usage of cordless telephones. 999 can be dialled on the apparatus for the purposes of making outgoing calls to the BT Emergency (999) Service. В — 13 — Battery Installation into the AC adaptor Installing ten optional batteries (AA, R6 or UM-3 size) into the AC adaptor enables you to operate all features except the answering system features during a power failure. You can use the unit up to 1 hour when installing new Panasonic batteries. Loosen the screw. Open the battery compartment as shown. insert ten AA, RE or UM-3 size batteries in the proper order as indicated observing the correct polarity. Set the ribbon between the batteries as shown, which helps you to take out the batteries easily. Ciose the battery compartment cover. Tighten the screw. Please renew the batteries annually as a matter of routine. You should also replace the batteries which have been used during a power failure with new ones. — 14 — UL pair: = To Install the wire aerial The base unit has two types of aerial. One is a wire aerial and the other is a felescopic aerial. The wire aerial is used to transmit sounds to the portable handset while the telescopic aerial is used to receive them from the portable handset. Uncoil the wire aerial to its full extent and fix its end at the highest position in your room. Avoid metal objects such as window frames for best performance. Although the machine will answer an incoming call after either second or 6th ring as normal, it aiso indicates to you {when ringing in}, if there are any messages. (See page 43.) If the machine answers after second ring, you will know that there is at least one message. If it continues to ring (into the third and fourth ring) the indication is that there are no messages and you can “ring oft” before the machine answers, thus saving a charge i.e. “Toll saving”. "NORMAL" switch position should generally be selected unless you specitically wish to take advantage of the “toll saver facility”. Callers are generally accustomed to their calls being answered within 10 seconds and most callers abandon the call in under 45 seconds if no reply is obtained. This machine will answer incoming calls in under 10 seconds if required. You can dial a stored number automatically by pressing the AUTO button and one of the dial buttons. Storing phone numbers in memory - Each dial button (0 through 9) works as a memory station for automatic dialling. Each station can store a 16-digit phone number. == == Press the PROG button. The BATT LOW indicator light is on. It shows the unit is in the programming mode. Enter the phone number you want to store up to 16 digits long. ~ E &- 3) = or 3 a N E mo Press the AUTO button. Press one of the dial buttons (O through 9) to store the phone number. A beep sounds and the BATT LOW indicator light goes out. The phone number is then stored into the memory location. To confirm a stored number Re-enter the number into the same memory location for confirmation. Memory card Use the memory card to write down the names or phone numbers associated with automatic diailing. You can use the reverse side, too. The TALK indicator light is on. Press the AUTO button. Press the dial button (0 through 9) where the phone number you want to dial is stored. The stored number is dialled automatically. You can check whether your STD code is in a Mercury access area on the list provided with the Mercury application form.
