Fairchild Compact Multi Stage Precision Pressure Regulator
Below you will find brief product information for Fairchild Compact Multi Stage Precision Pressure Regulator.
This regulator is a two-stage, pilot operated regulator that combines the ultra high precision characteristics of an instrument regulator with the sigh flow capacity of the process regulator, thereby producing a single regulator with the most destrable perlormance characteristics of the instrument and process reguators. The basic force balance system coupled with gral control produces an extremely sensitive regulator which responds to the smallest change in output requiraments.

PNEUMATIC MULTISTAGE PRESSURE REGULATOR
The Mairckild Model D000 multi-stage precision pneumatic pres-
sJre regulator is a two-stage, pilot operated regulator. The
Mode! 800 combines tha ultra high pracision characteristics of
an instrument regulator with the sigh flow capacity of the pro-
cass egulator thereby producing a singls regulator with the
most destrable perlormance characteristics of the instrument
and process reguators. Tie basic force balance system
coupled with gral control produces an extremely sensitive regy-
letor which responds to the smallest change in output requira-
ments.

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
ARA SPS
With supply pressure turned of and the adjusting
krob turned completely out, allowing lhe rance spring
to be relaxed, the supply and relief valves arz seatec
because of the upward force cl the supply valve spring
on the valve assembly, When supaly air is introducec
to the inlet port, air flows through tha stainless stee
filler ana sapphire orifice fo the tes of tha power stage
diaphragm assembly, througa the nozzle, and te the
downstream side of the requlatur. The action of the
cantrol bias spring furnishes the differential pressure
across Me nozzle to allow flow.

Specific set point the range spring exerts à force
against the pilot stage diaphragm. The resultant pres-

Culput pressure reaches the desired set point. Lntil
then, the ‘orca moves tha flapper against the pilot

Spang force, the supply valve spring force, and the
force cue to downstream pressure acing on the hot-
tom ofthe control diaphragm, driving the power stage
diaphragm assembly downward, opening the supply
valve, and allowingairtof ow to he outlet pont. Down-
stream (outlet) pressure is transmitted to the pilot
chamber, exerting pressure on the underside of the
pilot diaphragm. The increase in pressure nn the pi ot
diaphragm causes the diaphragm to move upward
against the range spring force. This force moves the
pilot diaphragm assembly upward, allowing the flappar
to move upward and venting the nozzle to down-
stream. The flapper comes 10 a position 50 as to man-
tain a nozzle back pressure which acts downward on
the power stage diaphragm, balancing the upward
force of the downstream pressure on the control
diaphragm and the force of the control as and
supply valve sprirgs. Downstream air pressure acts
on the bottom of the power stage diaphragm assem-
bly, movingthe assembly upwa‘d, allowing the supaly
valve to throttle and maintaining output pressure,
When sel pont is reached, the force acting on the
bottom of the power stage diaphragm assembly is in
balarce wita the force acting gn the top of the assem-
Bly. 11 downsiream pressure rises abuve set point, the
increased pressurs is transmitted through the channel
to the pile: chamber, and exerts pressure on the
underside of the pilot diaphragm. As the pilot diaph-
ragm meves upward, supply air is vented through the
flapper nozzle, reducing pressure on the top of the
power stage diaphragm assembly to a lower value

Full range of pressure 15 secured gver 414 turns of the adjusting screw
OPERATION
Relieve pressure on range spring before putting the
BOC into service for the first time. To operate turn the
adjusting screw slowly in a clockwise direction until
required cownstream pressure is obtainec, Turnagin
this direction, the screw comoresses the range soning
causing increased output pressure. For decreased
autput pressure, turn the screw counterclockwise.
