Face detection function (Face detection technology)

- AF frame can be moved and fixed to a specified face

• Face Detect AE evaluates the brightness of faces in the scene while controlling exposure

• Face Detect WB evaluates the color of the faces in the scene while adjusting the white balance

• Face Detect FE controls the flash output for optimum face brightness during flash photography

• Auto Red-Eye Correction performs automatic correction for “red-eye” that occurs during flash photography

• Face Self-Timer detects faces in the scene and releases the shutter in response to the appearance of an additional face

• A “blink warning” screen appears if a person with closed eyes is detected in the image shot.

- Checking for shut eyes is also available in rec review

• Motion Detection Technology changes the ISO speed and shutter speed in conjunction with subject movement when a face is detected

• Servo AF continues to focus on and track the subject while pressing the shutter button halfway

- Servo AF (Servo AE) continues to operate while pressing the shutter button halfway if moving faces are detected

• If there is a significant lighting difference between subjects in the scene, the dynamic range is increased more than in previous models.

1. Before Starting the Repair Work

Be sure to read the following precautions before starting the repair work.

1.1 Precautions on Flash High Voltage Circuit

When separating the CHASSIS of FLASH/SPEAKER ASS'Y, be sure to discharge the MAIN CAPACITOR.

Because this is a high-voltage circuit, be careful to avoid electric shock and short-circuits with other components.

CAUTION:

For the connectors of Type B, make sure to set them to the unlocked state before removing and inserting the

FPC board. After the FPC board is inserted, set them to the locked state.

For details on how to attach/detach the type D & E connectors, refer to "3.5 Separation of LCD ASS'Y" for type

D and "3.6 Disassembling of LCD ASS'Y" for type E.

The FPC board is equipped with holes as shown. Use them for removal and insertion by inserting the tweezers into them as required.

Note 1: When peeling off the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE, be careful not to damage the protection tape for the LCD

WIRE.

Note 2: Since the CN4001 has a peculiar shape, refer to <How to Detach the Connector> on the next page for details on how to detach it.

Detach the connector from the CN4001 by following the instructions shown below.

How to detach the Connector

Recommended slotted screwdriver

Width: 2 mm or more

Thickness: 1.2 mm or less

Procedures

1 Insert the tip of the slotted screwdriver straight into the gap between the connector and the circuit board.

2 Alternately lift up the right and left sides of the connector little by little to detach it.

Note: In order to prevent the connector from being damaged, avoid detaching the connector at one stroke.

Lift up the connector in the vertical direction with the tip of the screwdriver.

1 Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the gap between the connector and the circuit board.

1. Do not lift up the connector by the cable as this may break the cable or

damage the connector.

2. Do not attach and detach the connector more than 30 times.

(1) Disconnect the ST FPC from the two dowels A.

(2) Remove two screws (l

2), disengage the two dowels B, and then detach the FLASH/SPEAKER ASS'Y.

2), disengage the three dowels C, and then detach the CHASSIS from FLASH/SPEAKER

ASS'Y.

Note: After separating the FLASH/SPEAKER ASS'Y, discharge the MAIN CAPACITOR.“

(2) Peel off the FRONT CAP TAPE and detach the FRONT CAP.

How to disassemble the optical unit of the device?

To disassemble the optical unit: 1. Remove external covers, LCD screen, battery block, and boards. 2. Apply approximately 2.0V to the motor contacts to fully extend the lens barrel, then peel off the front cap tape and remove the front cap. 3. Remove the barrier caps, plates (1 and 3), and springs. 4. Detach the barrier components and the barrier ring (IRING BARRIER). 5. Disconnect the optical FPC, unscrew the CCD holder screws, and remove the CCD holder section along with gears 2 to 5.
