You can power your TV from:

• internal batteries

• standard AC power

• a vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket.

Note: Connecting an AC or DC adapter automatically disconnects internal batteries.

3. Slide the battery cover all the way back until it locks securely.

Note: The TV can operate for about 8 hours with alkaline batteries. When the sound level lowers or the picture becomes unstable, replace the batteries.

Your TV uses nine D batteries (not supplied). For the best results, we recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries.

You can also use rechargeable nickelcadmium batteries. If you use rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries, you must charge/ recharge them with a battery charger (both items available at your local RadioShack store).

Follow these steps to install the batteries.

1. Turn the TV over and press the arrow marks on the battery compartment cover. Then slide the cover off in the direction of the arrows.

2. Install nine alkaline batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols

(+ and –) marked inside the compartment.

Caution:

Installing batteries incorrectly can damage the TV.

You can power the TV from a standard AC outlet.

Caution: You must use a power source that supplies 12–14 volts

You can use an optional DC adapter to power the TV from your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.

You can receive VHF and UHF broadcast signals by using the built-in telescoping antenna, which usually provides good reception for the TV and FM radio.

Extend the antenna to its full length for

Channels 2–6 (VHF-L) or 14–69. (UHF).

Extend the antenna to a shorter length for

Channels 7–13 (VHF-H).

For improved reception, you can connect an optional outdoor VHF/UHF antenna to the

TV's

jack. Before connecting the outdoor antenna, disconnect the

If the outdoor antenna wire is 300-ohm double lead-in wire, connect the wire using an external 300-ohm antenna adapter (not supplied). Radio Shack offers a variety of adapters.

If the outdoor antenna wire or CATV cable is

75-ohm coaxial cable, connect the cable to the TV's

Warning: When you install an outdoor antenna, use extreme caution. If the antenna starts to fall, let it go! It could contact overhead power lines. If the antenna touches the power line, contact with the antenna,

• Your local RadioShack store carries a wide selection of antennas and adapters.

• For better reception in your vehicle, you can connect a mobile TV antenna to the

• The TV is not "cable ready."

For private listening, you can connect optional headphones with a 1 /

-inch (3.5 mm) mini plug. Your local RadioShack store carries a wide selection of headphones.

• Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended, high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss.

• Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.

Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle. This can create a traffic hazard and could be illegal in some areas.

Even though some headphones let you hear some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still can present a traffic hazard.

• Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you

• If the image is blurry, unstable, or has

"snow," the signal might be weak. This can be caused by the TV's location or the position and length of the telescoping antenna. Buildings made with large amounts of steel can cause reception problems. Try changing the position and length of the antenna. If this does not help, use an outdoor antenna (see “Connecting an Outdoor

Antenna” on Page 6).

• If the TV picture shrinks during battery power operation, the batteries might be weak. Check and replace (or recharge) the batteries as needed.

Your RCA 5-Inch Black and White TV is an example of superior design and craftsmanship.

The following suggestions will help you care for your TV so you can enjoy it for years.

Keep the TV dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits.

Use and store the TV only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts.

Keep the TV away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts.

Handle the TV gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the TV to work improperly.

Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type. Batteries can leak chemicals that damage your TV’s electronic parts.

Wipe the TV with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the TV.

Modifying or tampering with the TV’s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it.

Even though a compact disc is durable, treat the CD surface with care.

• Do not write on either side of the CD, particularly the non-label side (signals are read from the non-label side).

• Do not store CDs in high temperature, high-humidity locations. They might warp.

• Keep CDs dry. A water drop can act as a lens and affect the laser beam's focus.

• Always handle a CD by the edges to avoid fingerprints and always keep it in its protective case or sleeve when it is not in use. Fingerprints and scratches on the CD's surface can prevent the laser beam from correctly reading the digital information. If the CD gets scratched, use Scratch 'n Fix (available at your local RadioShack store) to repair the disc.
