Controls
Switching on
Plug the appliance into a nearby power socket and switch on. The temperature dial is positioned inside the fridge compartment, on the thermostat housing
(Figure 10). Turn the dial to a half-way position and leave the appliance running with the doors closed for approximately 2 hours. This will allow the inside temperatures to stabilise.
Temperature control
Fridge temperature is best maintained between 0°C to + 5°C. Freezer temperature is best maintained between -18°C to -24°C. Avoid setting the thermostat too high otherwise this may reduce the fridge temperature to a point at which certain fresh foods may begin to freeze. Use of a freezer thermometer (not supplied) is recommended to monitor conditions in the freezer.
The temperature setting runs from 1, the warmest setting, to 7, the coldest. The 0 position is an OFF setting which can be used when the refrigerator is standing empty (Figure 10).
If the room temperature is below +10°C, the low temperature switch, positioned on the thermostat housing, should be switched to ON.
Notes on operation
During normal operation the following noises may be heard:
Stifled murmur from compressor when it is working.
Soft gurgling from the refrigerant flowing through the cooling system.
Click from the thermostat switching on and off.

Using the fridge freezer
Precautions when freezing
The freezer is capable of producing very cold temperatures which may cause injury if safety precautions are not observed. Caution: Do not touch ice with bare skin to avoid ‘ice burns’.
Do not attempt to freeze carbonated drinks such as fizzy pop, mineral water, champagne etc. as the bottles may break when frozen. Drinks in PEP plastic bottles must not be frozen.
The freezer must only be used for the storing of edible foodstuffs.
Frozen food that has thawed should not be re-frozen.
In case of power failure
If there is a power failure do not open the fridge or freezer doors. Frozen food should not be affected if the failure lasts less than 20 hours. If the failure continues for longer than 20 hours, check the contents of the freezer. Do not re-freeze food that has thawed or partially thawed.
Page 5
Food storage
Food which has been purchased frozen should be kept in its original packaging. Maximum storage times and expiry dates are usually given on the food packaging.
IMPORTANT
When storing food in the fridge keep food away from the rear wall.
Do not re-freeze food that has thawed or partially thawed. When cooking food you must ensure it has thoroughly thawed, especially important regarding poultry and seafood.
Do not overload the shelves and always allow space between the packages of food. This ensures that cold air is free to circulate, and prevents the food packages from sticking together.
When freezing fresh food do not freeze too much food at one time. Do not exceed 4kg in 24 hours.
When removing ice cubes, it may help to hold the tray under running water for a few seconds in order to loosen the ice.
When storing hot food allow it to cool before placing it in the fridge or freezer. In the freezer, always store it away from food which is already frozen.
Maintenance and cleaning
Important
The appliance must be turned off at the mains before maintenance or cleaning.
General cleaning
It is recommended to clean and wipe out both compartments regularly or after any spillage inside or outside the appliance. Use a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda diluted in a pint of warm water.
Wipe the internal surfaces and shelving to remove food residues. Leave to dry before reloading food.
Beware of the back wall as this will be cold to the touch. Avoid wiping this until it has thoroughly defrosted.
Wipe the outside casing from time to time in order to remove dirt and dust from ventilation vents etc.
Keep water away from the thermostat housing.
Clean the door seals.
Remove accumulated dirt from around the compressor motor taking care not to damage the pipes and the wiring.
Drainage channel
Water collects in the drainage channel on the back wall. It then passes to a drip tray over the compressor from which it evaporates.
The drain should be cleaned regularly to avoid the build up of impurities.
Wipe the channel with a damp cloth and use a small bottle brush, pipe cleaner or similar flexible object to clean out any residue from the drainage hole.
Defrosting
It is recommended to regularly defrost the appliance to ensure efficient operation. The frost on the internal surfaces must not exceed 6mm before defrosting.
Turn the temperature control to ‘0’.Remove all food from the appliance, keep the doors open and wait until the frost has melted. Do not use metal utensils to remove frost.
When defrosted turn the temperature control to the desired setting and replace the food.
When not in use
If the appliance is to be emptied and turned off for a long period it is advisable to:
Disconnect the unit from the mains supply.
Empty the freezer of food and allow any ice that has formed to melt.
Clean and dry the interior.
Leave the door open.

Fuse and mains plug replacement
FIGURE 13 This product is supplied with a moulded plug which contains a 13A fuse. If you are simply replacing the fuse, you must use a 13A fuse which has been approved by ASTA to BS1362 (Figure 13).
If the plug does not fit the socket or becomes damaged, a new plug must be fitted. Replace the original plug with the correct plug for your socket. If this is a 3-pin (square pin) 13A (BS1363) plug, you must make sure that it is fitted with an ASTA approved 13A fuse.
Never use without the fuse cover fitted.
If another type of plug is used, it must be protected by a 15A fuse, either in the plug or at the distribution board.
1. Cut off the existing fitted plug.
2. The wires in the mains lead supplied with this appliance are coloured in accordance with the following code (Figure 14):
GREEN/YELLOW = EARTH (E)
