ADDENDUM MMAC-3, MMAC-5 AND MMAC-8 POWER SUPPLY MODULE (PSM, PSM-R) This Addendum provides the specifications and installation instructions for the universal Power Supply Module (PSM) and Power Supply Module - Redundant (PSM-R). The universal PSM and PSM-R do not require any manual adjustment to select between 110 and 220V input power. This power supply will operate with any input power ranging from 90 to 264 VAC. CAUTION: If you are using the new universal Power Supply Module along with a manually configured Power Supply Module in the same MMAC, the manual Power Supply Module must still be set to the proper input setting. Failure to do so could result in serious damage to the Power Supply Module, the MMAC, and to any installed MIMs. The information in this addendum replaces the information in the Application Note titled Configuring the MMAC-8 and MMAC-8 For Use With 220V Input Power. You should also use this addendum with versions of the MMAC-3 and MMAC-8 Overview and Setup Guide, and the MMAC-5/FNB Overview and Setup Guide that contain information related to the manually configured Power Supply Module. Power Supply Requirements Input Frequency: Vac 47 to 63 Hz Input Voltage: 90 to 264 Vac Output Voltage: +5 Vde +1% +12 Vdc +6% -5 Vdc +3% -9 Vdc +3% Fuses: One 250 V, 3.5 Amp fuse for each 150 Watt power supply unit LANVIEW LEDs on the Power Supply Module NOTE: The MMAC-3 and MMAC-3/FNB do not incorporate LANVIEW LEDs. OK (MMAC-5/FNB) When lit, this green LED indicates that the Power Supply System OK (MMAC-8, Module is operating correctly. MMAC-8/FNB) Fail (MMAC-5/FNB) When lit, this red LED indicates a failure of one or more of Power Fail (MMAC-8, the Power Supply Modules. MMAC-8/FNB) Installing the Power Supply Module NOTE: The MMAC-3, MMAC-3/FNB has a built in Power Supply Module. You will need to install one or two Power Supply Modules for your MMAC-5FNB. One MMACS PSM will provide sufficient power for any configuration of MIMs, but you may choose to install a second power supply to be a redundant power source. Two MMAC5 PSMs will distribute the power load between themselves, and if one PSM fails for any reason other than a shorted DC back plane, the second PSM will assume the load. Page 1 P/N 9030542 The MMAC-5FNB Power Supply Modules are installed in the rightmost and leftmost slots of the chassis. If you intend to install a single MMACS5 PSM, install it in the rightmost slot. You can then install a fifth MIM into the optional MIM slot . In the MMAC-8 and MMAC-8/FNB you can install up to four modular PSMs. The MMAC-8 and MMAC-8FNB require a Power Supply Module for every two MIM cards installed in the unit. In the MMAC-8 and MMAC- 8/FNB the power supply module(s) are installed in the rear of the unit. Install the MMAC PSM(s) into your MMAC as follows: 1. Unpack the MMAC PSM by removing it from the shipping box and sliding the two foam end caps off the unit. Save the shipping box and materials in the event the unit must be reshipped. 2. Remove the MMAC PSM from its protective plastic bag. 3. Loosen the knurled knobs securing the PSM panel, and remove the panel to expose the PSM opening. Keep the panel in case you need to remove the MMAC PSM from the MMAC for any reason. 5. Slide the MMAC PSM into the slot of the MMAC, ensuring that the circuit board is inserted into the slotted paths. Carefully continue sliding the module forward until the module is connected to the backplane and its front panel is flush with the MMAC. Do not force the module into place. If you encounter significant resistance before the front panel is flush to the MMAC’s front, remove and reinsert it. 6. Tighten the knurled knobs to secure the PSM to the MMAC. After you have finished inserting the power supply module(s), the MMAC is ready to be powered up. Powering Up the MMAC-3, MMAC-3/FNBM, MAC-5FNB, MMAC-8, and MMAC-8/FNB Power up the MMAC-3, MMAC-3/FNB, MMAC-5FNB, MMAC-8, or MMAC-8/FNB as follows: 1. If the MMAC will not be rack mounted, place it on the selected site. 2. Plug the power cord into the power receptacle located on the front the PSM. 3. Plug the power cord(s) into an outlet. 4. Make sure that the Red LED (Fail, Power Fail) is lit for each PSM installed into the MMAC. If the LED is not lit, unplug the power cord, and check the fuses on the MMAC PSM. The Fail LED will remain lit until installed MIMs create a power load. At that time, the green (OK, System OK) LED will light. 5. Make sure that all the fans in the fan tray unit are operating correctly when power is received from the MMAC PSMs. The MMAC is now ready for the the installation of the repeater module and the MIMs. Refer to the applicable module manuals for more information. If you experience any problems during the installation of the Power Supply Module, contact Cabletron Systems’ Technical Support. Page 2 ">
