Warnings

Your new stylish digital camera delivers high quality, 2272 x 1704 resolution images using a 4.0 Megapixels

CCD sensor. Using either the optical viewfinder or the 1.5" LTPS TFT color image LCD monitor, you can compose images and then examine them in detail. An auto-flash sensor automatically detects the shooting (lighting) conditions and determines whether the flash should be used. This feature helps ensure that your images turn out right.

16MB internal (built-in) memory let you capture and store images without the need for an additional memory card. However, you may wish to expand the memory capacity by using an external memory card.

In addition to still images, you can record short videos by using the movie function.

Images you have taken can be downloaded to your computer using the USB cable (USB driver is required for Win 98 and Mac OS 8.6). You can enhance and retouch your images on your computer by using the provided editing software, or image editing software you may already own. You may share your images with your friends via e-mail, in a report, or on a website.

DPOF functionality allows you to print your images on a DPOF compatible printer by simply inserting the memory card.

You can use 2 AA size batteries to power the camera. Battery power is convenient for capturing images or recording video clips.

1. Make sure your camera is off.

2. Slide the battery/SD card cover lock.

3. Insert the batteries according to the correct polarity marks (+ or -).

4. Close the battery/SD card cover lock firmly.

You may use a CR-V3 Lithium battery pack.

Avoid using batteries in extremely cold environments as low temperatures can shorten the battery life and reduce camera performance. This low temperature will also influence Alkaline battery performance, therefore Ni-MH rechargeable battery is highly recommended.

If you are using the new rechargeable batteries or rechargeable batteries that have not been used for an extended period of time (batteries that pass the expiry date are exceptions) might affect the number of pictures that can be taken. Therefore, to maximize their performance and lifetime, we recommend that you fully charge the batteries and discharge them for at least one complete cycle before use.

If you will not be using the batteries for an extended period of time, remove them from the camera to prevent leakage or corrosion.

Never use batteries of different types (together) or mix old and new batteries.

Never use manganese batteries.

There’s also another way to power your camera–using an AC power Adapter. AC power adapter is recommended for long periods of continuous use or for transferring images to your computer.


2. Open the port cover and connect one end of the AC power adapter to the jack labeled “DC IN”.

3. Connect the other end to an electrical outlet.

Make sure to use only the AC power adapter specified for the camera. Damage caused by the use of an incorrect adapter is not covered under the warranty.

To prevent unexpected auto power off resulting from no battery power left during the process of transferring your images to the computer, use the AC power adapter as a power supply.

The AC power adapter can only be used to power the camera. Batteries cannot be charged inside the camera.

Your camera comes with 16MB of internal memory, allowing you to store images and video clips in the camera. However, you can also expand the memory capacity by using the SD memory card. Optional

SD memory card provide removable, reusable storage for images and video clips.


2. Slide the SD card/battery cover lock.

3. Insert the SD memory card.

If the card cannot be inserted, check the orientation.

4. Close the SD card/battery cover lock firmly.

To prevent valuable data from being accidentally erased from an SD memory card you can slide the write protect tab (on the side of the SD memory card) to “LOCK”.

To save, edit, or erase data on an SD memory card, you must unlock the card.

To fully capture all images you want, be sure to reformat first your SD memory card.

Be sure to format an SD memory card by this camera before using it.

Not all SD memory cards are compatible for this camera. We highly recommend to use Panasonic, Toshiba and

SanDisk memory cards to demonstrate the camera’s performance.

Specify in which language menus and messages are to be displayed on the LCD monitor.

Follow the steps below to set the OSD (On-Screen Display) language.

1. Set the mode dial to [ ].

2. Select “LANGUAGE” by using the / button, and press the

button.

3. Select the displayed language by using the / button, and press the button.

4. To exit the menu, change the mode dial setting.

The language setting will be retained even if the camera is turned off.

The Date/Time screen will be presented if/when:

The camera is turned on for the first time.

The camera is turned on after removing the batteries/AC power adapter for a long period of time or replacing the batteries.

When the date and time setting screen appears, follow these steps to set the correct date and time.

1. Select the “DATE” or “TIME” option by using the / button and press the button.

2. Select the item’s field by using the / button and adjust the value for the date and time by using the / button.

The date default setting is set in the order day-month-year.

3. After confirming all settings are correct, press the button.

5. Select the “MODE” type by using the / button and press the button.

6. Select “EXIT” by using the / button and press the button.

The setting will be stored and the screen will return to the capture mode.

To prevent accidental slippage during the use, always use the camera strap.

Attach the camera strap as follows:

1. Thread the small loop of the strap through the strap eyelet on the camera.

2. Pull the large loop through the small loop until the strap is firmly

Using the LCD monitor can help you to confirm an image while taking pictures, to replay recorded images/video clips or to adjust menu settings.

The mode icons, text and numbers that are displayed on the LCD monitor may vary according to the current settings.

1. Rotate the mode dial based on your desired scenery (Video/Auto/

Program/Scene/Manual/Av/Tv) and power on your camera.

2. Compose your image in the LCD monitor.

3. Press the shutter button.

In the Capture mode, toggling the button will set OSD On, OSD Off and Display Off.

The LCD monitor darkens in strong sunlight or bright light. This is not a malfunction.

Using the LCD monitor for an extended period of time will decrease the number of images you can take. To conserve battery power and increase the number of pictures you can take, we recommend you to turn the LCD monitor off and use the viewfinder instead.

In [ ] Video mode LCD monitor can be turned off. However, in Playback mode the LCD monitor cannot be turned off.

Your camera is also equipped with an optical viewfinder to compose images. Using the viewfinder helps you to compose images and adjust the subject in the crisp focus. Taking images by using the optical viewfinder will conserve more battery power. We recommend you to use the viewfinder when your batteries’ level is in low condition.



2. Compose your image in the viewfinder.

The lens moves during the zoom photography. Zoom photography allows you to capture telephoto and wide-angle images. The subject appears closer by sliding the zoom controller towards [

2. Compose your image by sliding the zoom controller left or right.

] to its maximum position.

Slide it again to activate the digital zoom function.

]. Digital zoom's range is from 1.2x to 4.0x within 10 stages: 1.2x, 1.4x, 1.6x, 1.8x,

To exit the digital zoom, slide repeatedly the zoom controller towards [

This setting enables images to be taken with the [ ] self-timer.

The [ ] self-timer button can select the capturing mode between “Off” (default) and “Self timer”

(5 seconds, 10 seconds or 10+2 seconds).

[5 SEC]: Your camera automatically takes a picture after five seconds delay.

[10 SEC]: Your camera automatically takes a picture after ten seconds delay.

[10+2 SEC]: Your camera automatically takes a picture after ten seconds delay, and takes another picture again after two seconds.

1. Secure the camera to a tripod or place it on a stable surface.



3. Compose your image.

4. Press [ ] the self-timer button.


The count down is displayed on the LCD monitor.

When you toggle the self-timer button, the following are displayed in the accordingly order:

To cancel the self-timer photography at any time, press the [ ] self-timer button to disrupt the sequence.

When selecting the [10+2 SEC] as the self-timer photography mode, the digital zoom can not be activated.

The flash is designed to function automatically when lighting conditions warrant the use of flash. You can take an image using a suitable flash mode to your circumstances.



2. Press the [ ] flash button located on the rear side of the camera repeatedly until your desired flash mode appears on the LCD monitor.

Description

The flash fires automatically according to the ambient lighting conditions.

Select this mode for general photography.

The flash emits a precursor-flash before the main flash fires. This causes the pupil in the human eye to constrict, reducing the red-eye phenomenon.

Select this mode when taking images of people and animals in low-light conditions.

The flash will always fire regardless of the surrounding brightness.

Select this mode for recording images with high contrast (backlighting ) and deep shadows.

The flash will not fire.

Select this mode when taking images in a place where flash photography is prohibited, or when the distance to the subject is beyond the effective range of the flash.

In [ ] Macro mode and [ ] Landscape mode, flash photography is not possible.

In [ ] Night Scene mode, flash photography is fixed to [ ] Fill Flash (on).

In [ ] Backlight mode, flash photography is fixed to [ ] Fill Flash (on).

In [ ] Video mode, flash cannot be set.

Using [ ] Video mode you can record video clips at a resolution of

256 x 192 pixels. Voice can also be recorded.

1. Rotate the mode dial to [ ] Video mode and power on your camera.

2. You can start recording a video clip by pressing the shutter button.

The elapsed time displays on the LCD monitor while recording a video clip.

The recording time depends on the storage size and the subject of the images to be recorded.

3. To stop recording, press the shutter button again.

In [ ] Video mode, digital zoom cannot be activated; however, optical zoom can be used before composing.

Be sure not to cover the camera’s microphone while recording video clips.

Using the Program (Automatic Exposure) the camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture to match the brightness of the scene.

Faster shutter speeds let you catch an instantaneous image of a fast-moving subject while slower speeds create a flowing impression letting you capture images without a flash in dark areas.

When you set the aperture mode, the camera automatically selects a shutter speed to fit the brightness.

Choosing a lower aperture value (Higher F value) letting you fade the background and create a beautiful portrait. A higher aperture value (Lower F value) both close objects and distant objects (such as landscape scenery) will be in focus. The larger the aperture value, the greater the range of the image brought into clear focus. The flash default setting for [

Resolution and quality settings determine the pixel size (dimension), image file size, and compression ratio for your images. These settings affect the number of images that can be stored in memory, or on an SD memory card. As you get to know the camera, it is recommended that you try each quality and resolution setting to get an appreciation for the effects that these settings will have on your images.

Higher resolution and higher quality images offer the best photographic results but produce large files sizes. Therefore, fewer images will take up more memory space.

High resolution and quality settings are recommended for printed output and situations requiring the finest detail. Lower resolution/quality images take up less memory space and may be quite suitable for sharing images via e-mail, in a report, or on a web page.

To change image resolution and quality settings:

Your camera adjusts the exposure of each scene automatically. However, if the subject is very dark or very bright, you may override the camera automatic exposure determination to make the subject brighter or darker. This is called “EV compensation”.

The human eye adapts to changes in light so that white objects still appear white even when the light changes. With cameras, however, the color of the subject is influenced by the color of the light surrounding it. This color adjustment is called “white balance adjustment”. This setting allows you to set the white balance when taking images under specific lighting condition.

If there is no image stored in the internal memory or on the memory card, [ NO IMAGE] is displayed on the screen.

You can also view your images on the TV screen. First connect one end of the A/V cable to the A/V OUT jack of the camera. Then connect the other end to the video input socket of the TV. Set the camera to the [ ] mode and then turn the TV and camera on.

During playback, the recorded image appears to be larger than the one on preview in capture mode.

A maximum of 30 seconds of audio can be recorded like a memo for photographed still images.

1. Power on the camera.

3. Select the still image that you want to attach the voice memo by using the / button.

4. Press the [ ] menu button and select “VOICE MEMO” by using the / button and press the

A [ ] icon is displayed with images that have been recorded with a voice memo.

The camera is not equipped with speakers. To play back the voice memo, you may connect the camera to the television with the A/V cable or download your files to your computer hard disk.

Recording voice memos automatically reduces the space available on your memory card for pictures.

While reviewing your images, you may enlarge a selected portion of an image. This magnification allows you to view fine details.

Zoom function cannot be activated while playing back the video clips.

When playing the video clips on TV, recorded voice can be played back.

The function enables you to play your images back automatically in sequential order as a slide show.

This is a very useful and entertaining feature reviewing recorded images and for presentations.

Using this option to remove all the recorded images/video clips or other data on camera internal memory or on an SD card.

DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) allows you to embed printing information on your SD memory card.

By using DPOF, you can select an image to be printed and then specify how many prints or which image you would like. Take your SD memory card to a DPOF enabled printer or through laboratory printing services that accept memory cards. The DPOF/card-compatible printer will read the embedded information on the memory card and print your images as specified.

You can share recorded images/ video clips with your family or friends via e-mail or post them on the

Step 3: Downloading Images/Video Clips

When the camera is turned on and connected to your computer, it is considered to be a disk drive, just like a floppy disk or CD. You can download (transfer) images by copying them from the “removable disk” (“untitled” disk on a Macintosh) to your computer hard drive.

Open the “removable disk” by double clicking on it. Double click on the folder contains your recorded images/video clips. Select the images/video clips that you prefer and then choose “Copy” from the

“Edit” menu. After that, open the destination location and choose “Paste” from the “Edit” menu.

Set the video output system according to the country in which your camera is used.

[ NTSC ]: NTSC system.

[ PAL ]: PAL system.

BEEPER

The camera makes a sound (beep) each time you press the camera button if this function is enabled.

[LOUDER]: The camera generates a stronger sound.

[SOFT]: The camera generates a weaker sound.

[OFF]: The camera does not generate a sound.

LANGUAGE

Refer to chapter “Setting the Language” in Preparing Your Camera for further details.

POWER OFF

If no operation is performed for a specific period of time, the power to the camera is automatically turned off. This feature is useful to conserve power.

[ 3 MIN ]: If no operation is carried out for 3 minutes, auto power off is activated.



[ OFF ]: Disable Auto power off.

SET TO DEFAULT

Set all the parameters to default settings.

[ YES ]:Reset to default settings.

[ NO ]: Remain the current settings.

LCD BRIGHTNESS

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

button: Darkens the display.

button: Lightens the display.

RESET NUMBER

Set whether or not to reset the file number when you take photographs. This creates a new folder.

The photographed images are recorded to the newly created folder from number 0001. If you want to reset the file number, be sure that no images are recorded in the internal memory or the SD memory card.

[ YES ]:Reset the file number.

[ NO ]: Does not reset the file number.

DATE IMPRINT

The date of recording can be printed directly on the still images. This function must be activated before the image is taken.

[ YES ]:Date and time will be displayed on the captured image.

[ NO ]: Date and time will not be displayed on the captured image.
