High optical performance and broadcast-quality output in a compact video camera

Canon’s XF200-series camcorders pack more features than ever before into a compact, hand-held body. Offering a compelling combination of optical quality, broadcast-quality codec and outstanding handling, the XF205 and XF200 make professional tools accessible to all.

2

Make the story

The XF200-series is purpose-built to satisfy growing demand for smaller, lightweight cameras to obtain the perfect shot in all kinds of conditions and environments.

Highly versatile, thanks to a number of advanced features packed into an all-new compact chassis, the XF205 and XF200 offer all-in-one options for a variety of users and scenarios.

Professional operators such as electronic news gatherers will appreciate a broadcast-standard codec, 3 lens rings and full manual control, while less experienced content creators can benefit from shooting assists such as Face Detection. The XF205 steps up connectivity with 3G-SDI output, plus Genlock and Timecode for multi-camera shoots.

Ready for anything

The XF200-series features an advanced camera system capable of providing outstanding images and the responsiveness to deal with all kinds of shooting situations.

Wide angle : 26.8mm*

Even greater reach

The powerful 20x optical zoom lens used in the XF200-series is based on top-flight optical technology. With a focal length of

26.8mm*, the glass lens provides a wide angle and powerful zoom performance within a compact design. The high-index, ultra-low dispersion glass reduces chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range.

A digital teleconverter extends the choice of magnification settings to 1.5x, 3x and 6x.

Superb processing capability

The outstanding processing capability provided by DIGIC DV 4 enables enhanced image reproduction. As well as smooth gradation and faithful colour reproduction, it offers support for recording at higher data rates and works with the sensor to eliminate camera shake.

20x Zoom angle : 576mm**

ENGs and documentary makers will appreciate how the XF200-series enables them to get right in the thick of the action, while corporate producers and videographers will value the ability to achieve a smooth, steady zoom.

4

* When Dynamic mode is OFF. Minimum focus length is 28.8mm when Dynamic mode is ON.

**When Dynamic mode is On.

Go steady

Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer technology compensates for camcorder shake across

5 axes, to reduce image distortion under any conditions. In addition to Standard mode for stationary shooting, Powered IS stabilises when zoomed in, while Dynamic IS isolates vibration when following subjects making the XF200-series suitable for handheld run-and-gun footage or use with a drone.

Additional electronic correction – via surplus pixels on the sensor and the power of

DIGIC – further refines the performance.

5

Stunning picture quality

Get the perfect shot, no matter when or where.

Improved low light performance

The 2.91 Megapixel HD CMOS Pro sensor provides outstanding dynamic range and low-light performance thanks to an increased sensor size which maximises photosite area. Together with a highly sophisticated image processing system, image noise is reduced and sensitivity increased in low light conditions.

A familiar face

Canon’s Face Detection technology recognises human faces by combining an algorithm based on facial features with intelligent scene analysis technology, and adjusts factors such as focus and exposure accordingly. In Face Only mode, the focus is held at the last known point where a face is detected – if the subject exits the frame, the autofocus won’t snap to a nearby unrelated object.

Image in Normal 1 Infrared OFF

Image in Wide DR Gamma Infrared ON

Seamless gradation

The new Wide DR gamma option in the

XF205 and XF200 provides a ‘flatter’ image with reduced contrast, offering wider dynamic range (600%) and reducing over-exposure.

This helps to retain highlight detail and allows for natural-looking skin tones and greater creative opportunity. Wide DR footage is ready to use without colour grading – ideal for fast turn-around productions like news and current affairs – but also provides more opportunity for image adjustment during post production, This feature is available in Cinema

EOS products, enabling seamless combination of footage from a variety of cameras.

Infrared shooting

The XF200-series benefits from a diffused

LED light, which is three times brighter than its predecessor. The IR LED is automatically deactivated when switching from infrared to regular shooting mode to avoid operator error. The wide radiation angle provides brightness throughout the entire image area for more natural-looking recordings. Both green and white (default) infrared shooting options are available.

7

8

Superior handling and ease of use

Stay in total control, whatever the shooting location

Focus ring Zoom ring Iris ring

Get a grip

The new variable rotating grip provides a

120° angle of rotation and fixed intermediate angles at 15° increments. This allows unprecedented freedom in shooting styles, and ensures a firm grip can be maintained in any scenario, position or conditions.

Work the way you want

Three separate lens rings – focus, zoom and iris – allow custom control of the camera.

While zoom speed has been accelerated by over 180%, ease of use is uncompromised, even when the zoom magnification is increased. Banked rings, separated by steps, prevent inadvertent operation of the iris, even when operating blind. For greater mobility, a dust-proof lens hood eliminates the need to mount or remove the lens cap.

Compact size

Both camcorders distil a host of new features such as the 20x zoom lens, three manual lens rings and rotating grip into a compact body, to maintain the operability required of professional cameras in fast-moving situations, or where discretion is required.

Intuitive layout

For more efficient shooting, and to sharpen reactions in any situation, 28 frequently used functions can be assigned to

13 easily accessible buttons.

Dual codec

The XF200-series can record images in multiple formats to meet different workflows or output needs with a single camera.

Three card slots enable simultaneous recording in MXF for broadcast (2 x CF cards) and MP4 for the web (SD card).

Share smaller files quickly – great for time-critical applications such as breaking news – whilst retaining the Full HD footage for later use, or simply use MP4 for fool-proof back-ups. MP4 files can be transferred via FTP using built-in Wifi or Ethernet connectivity – even during recording.
