Contents: Game Board and 28 Cardboard Caterpillars.

Object of the Game

The object is to find a suitable spot for each caterpillar according to its colour. If you are the first player to place all of your caterpillars on the board, you win the game!

The Course of the Game

The youngest player begins. On your turn, choose one of the two caterpillars you have in front of you. Try to place it on the game board so that its colour is the same as the colour visible through its two holes.

Before the First Game…

Take the caterpillars out of their cardboard bases and remove their round inner pieces.

Setting Up

Decide whether you are going to play the easier or the harder game, in which the naughty bogeybugs affect the game. The game board is two-sided: the side with the colourful grid is used for the easier game while the floral side is used for the harder game.

Turn over all the caterpillars so that their green side is facing upwards.

Shuffle them on the table and stack them into a pile. Deal the caterpillars evenly among the players. If there are three players participating, one caterpillar is taken off the game.

After the caterpillars have been dealt, each player places their pile on the table. Each player takes two of their topmost caterpillars and turns them over to the table picture side up.

And now; the game can begin!

After you have found the correct spot, turn over a new caterpillar from your pile. Your turn is now over and the turn goes to the player on your left, but remember: in the beginning and at end of your turn, you should always have two caterpillars with their picture side up on the table.

The caterpillar cannot be placed on the board so that it is on top of another caterpillar or so that a part of its body goes over the game area (the grid in the easier game or onto the foliage in the harder game).

If you cannot place either of your two caterpillars on the board, you must choose a caterpillar that is already on the board and remove it.

The removed caterpillar is taken off the game, after which the turn goes to the next player.

Bogeybugs

Bogeybugs are a part of the game only when the harder game is played. If you manage to hide a bogeybug underneath your caterpillar, you can place your second caterpillar on the board, but only if you’d like to. After you have placed your second caterpillar, your turn ends (even if the second caterpillar covers another bogeybug).

However; the caterpillar cannot be placed on the board so that a bogeybug is visible through one of the caterpillar’s two holes. Instead, you must find another place for your caterpillar.

The Winner

If you are the first player to place all of your caterpillars on the board, you win the game!
