It requires connection to a domestic water supply system and electrical connection. The air flow used as a heat source can be ducted in round pipes or the same air can be drawn directly and conveyed into the place where the unit is installed. The units are suitable for installation inside a covered place. SOL models can manage an external solar system connected to the coil inside the storage tank. USE These units are designed only for the production of hot water for sanitary purposes. Any other use is improper; in particular, use of the unit in industrial cycles and/or installation in places with corrosive or explosive atmospheres is not allowed. The manufacturer can not be held liable for any damage due to incorrect installation, improper use, not reasonably foreseeable conduct, or inadequate or incomplete application of the instructions given in this handbook. OPERATING PRINCIPLES The air-water heat pump does not use electric energy to heat the water directly, like a heating element, but obtains the same result in a more efficient way by means of a cooling circuit whose operation is described below: • The refrigerant fluid contained inside the sealed circuit changes state in the heat exchanger placed directly in contact with air, drawing heat from the same. • The compressor sucks the refrigerant fluid and raises the energy level of the heat drawn: in fact, increasing its pressure, the refrigerant fluid reaches temperatures able to heat the water in the storage tank. • The fluid condenses in the coil would around the tank, transferring the heat to the tank. The heat transferred is the sum of the energy taken from the air and the energy used to compress the refrigerant. The storage tank allows the heat to be retained for a long time thanks to the insulating shell. • Going through an expansion part, the fluid returns to low pressure, cooling and becoming ready to absorb more heat from the air. 5 MAIN CHARACTERISTICS CONSTRUCTION CHARACTERISTICS Fig.1 Description of parts 1. To access it, use the same procedure described for connection of the parts of the solar system. There are two different types of boards, depending on the unit version (Basic or SOL). To access it for any inspections, refer to the wiring diagrams supplied with the unit. The figures below show the layouts of the two available versions: Basic Version 24 INSTALLATION SOL version Key AT: Air Sensor BTT: Storage Tank Base Sensor TTT: Storage Tank Upper Part Sensor CT: Coil Sensor COMP: Compressor FM: Fan Motor E2V: Defrost Solenoid Valve K2: Solar Safety Relay (SOL version only) K3: Boiler consent relay HT: Heating Element TC: Transformer OHP: Automatic-Reset Heating Elements Safety MTS: Manual-Reset Heating Elements Safety HL: LEDs e-heater: heating element connection jumper Dry Contact Gas Boiler: Connection to boiler Solar Pump: Solar Pump connection (SOL version only) Solar Drainage Valve: Solar Safety connection (SOL version only) SSTSolar Temp: Solar Probe connection (SOL version only) HP: High Pressure Safety 25 MAINTENANCE GENERAL INFORMATION IMPORTANT: Before carrying out any maintenance operation make sure the machine is not and cannot be accidentally or inadvertently powered. It is therefore necessary to disconnect the power supply whenever maintenance is carried out. • It is the customer's duty to carry out all the maintenance operations on the heat pump. • Only previously trained and qualified personnel may perform maintenance operations. • If the unit has to be disassembled, protect hands with gloves. MAGNESIUM ANODE CHECK AND REPLACEMENT This maintenance operation must be carried out with the hot water tank empty. To protect the hot water tank against corrosion, the magnesium anode must be checked once a year, replacing it if worn. The front panel must be removed by undoing the four screws (A fig.1). After removing the panel, remove the anode protection cover indicated by the label ANODE. Remove the four cover screws (B fig.1). Unscrew the hex head of the magnesium anode. Pull it out, check and if necessary (decreased by half size) replace. Retighten the hex head of the anode. Close the protection cover and front panel. Fill and restore the pressure of the domestic water circuit. Fig.1 A B B B B B B B B A A A A A A A SAFETY VALVE CHECK Make sure to check the safety valve at least twice a year. To do this check, lift the valve lever (1 fig 2) (be careful because it is as hot as the water inside the tank). Run the water coming out the valve into a drain through a pipe 26 Fig.2 1 MAINTENANCE Fig.3 CLEANING THE INLET GRILLES Make sure to periodically check any air ducting inlet and outlet grilles. CLEANING THE CONDENSATE DRAIN Periodically check for any obstructions in the condensate discharge pipe. HEATING ELEMENT SAFETY INTERVENTION Fig.4 Heating element reset The heating element is provided with two control thermostats, one automatic reset and the other calibrated to 85 °C with manual reset. If this second thermostat intervenes, it must manually reset. To do this it is necessary to remove the front panel by undoing the four screws (A fig.4). After removing the panel, remove the heating element protection cover indicated by the label HEATERS. Remove the cover screws (B fig.4). Press the red button on the thermostat. Close the protection cover and front panel. A A B B B B B A A B B B A A A A 27 COMMISSIONING FIRST STARTUP ATTENTION! Installation and initial startup of the unit must be carried out by qualified personnel, in compliance with the current national regulations and any provisions of local authorities and bodies responsible for public health. Before first startup, or before starting the system after a long idle period, it is necessary to carry out the following preliminary checks regarding the electrical part and refrigerant part. PRELIMINARY CHECK OF ELECTRICAL PART N.B.: Disconnect the power by unplugging the machine before carrying out any electrical check. Checks • Make sure the electrical system complies with that given in the wiring diagram and that the cable size is adequate. • Make sure the power and earth wires are tightened on the terminals. • Make sure the mains supply is adequate for the machine. PRELIMINARY CHECK OF REFRIGERANT PART • Make sure the unit is charged with refrigerant. The check can be carried out with portable pressure gauges for freon, equipped with a 1/4" SAE swivel connector with vacuum pump connected to the service outlet of the cock. The pressure read must correspond to the saturation pressure corresponding to ambient temperature. • Do a visual check of the refrigerant circuit, making sure it is not damaged. • Make sure the pipes are not dirty with oil (oil stains could suggest damage to the refrigerant circuit). General recommendations In case of a fault and/or poor operation, turn the unit off, do not try to repair it. Contact professionally qualified personnel. Any repairs, using only original replacements parts, must be carried out by qualified personnel, under penalty of loss of conformity with MD 174/04. Failure to respect the above can compromise the unit's safety and relieves the manufacturer of all liability. In case of prolonged non-use of the water heater, make sure to: - disconnect the power supply to the unit or, if there is a special switch ahead of the unit, turn it “OFF”; - close the DHW system taps; ATTENTION! It is advisable to empty the unit if it is to remain unused in a room subject to freezing. This operation must only be carried out by qualified personnel. ATTENTION! The hot water delivered at the taps at a temperature above 50°C can immediately cause serious scalding. Children, the disabled and elderly are more exposed to this risk. Therefore the use of a thermostatic mixing valve, to be screwed to the unit's water outlet pipe identified by the red collar, is advisable. In SOL models, where the tank temperature could reach high values, the mixing valve becomes mandatory. 28 SAFETY AND POLLUTION GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS The machine has been designed to minimise risks to persons and the place where it is installed. Therefore, to eliminate any residual hazards it is advisable be as familiar as possible with it in order to avoid accidents that could cause injury and/or damage. 1. Pollution: The machine contains lubricating oil and R314a refrigerant, therefore when scrapping, these fluids must be recovered and disposed of in compliance with the current regulations in the country where it is installed. The unit must not be abandoned during the scrapping stage. For more information on the characteristics of the refrigerant fluid refer to safety data sheets available from the producers of refrigerants. 29 30 4( %BUJVUFOUF $PHOPNF /PNF *OEJSJ[[P /SDJWJDP
