Instructions for
Oxweld Multi-Flame
Welding Tips Nos. 50 and 60
1. These tips are designed for use on the Oxweld W-17 and
W-22 Welding Blowpipes in conjunction with the standard Ox-
weld multi-ame stems Nos. 10 and 11. The No. 50 tip should be
used with the No. 10 stem (Part No. 54492). The No. 60 tip
should be used with the No. 11 stem (Part No, 54493).
2. Oxweld multi-flame tips are made expressly for welding by
Linde's steel welding technique; that is, backhand welding with
an excess acetylene flame. For welding steel up to %4 in. thick, the
overall length of the excess acetylene “feather” should be 1% to
114 times the length of the inner cone. For steel 14 in. or thicker,
a “feather” twice the length of the inner cone is recommended.
3. Plate or pipe to be welded with these tips should be beveled
to give a welding vee with a 45 deg. included angle. A straight
bevel with no “nose” should be used. Material should be spaced
1% in. apart to insure full penetration into the root of the weld.
For pipe welds, unless jigs are used, the joint should be tack-
welded at 3 or 4 points, evenly spaced. Plate should be tack-
welded at 4-in. intervals for %-in. plate, 6-in. intervals for plate
thicker than ¥% in.
4. Use either Oxweld No. 1 H.T. Steel Rod or Oxweld No. 32
C.M.S. Steel Rod for welding with these tips. These rods are
especially compounded to permit maximum welding speeds and
to produce strong, uniform welds.
