Subject: How to install the VPS DECODER
(VW-VPS5: NV-J40E1/EO)
To install the optional VPS Decoder (VW-VPS5),

4. lift the Main C.B.A. up side down and lie it
on the Cassette Compartment.

RF Converter and adjacent TV channel.

Purpose:
This is to prevent the interference due: to MIX OS |
booster system (RF converter) of NV-J40B. . |
When the interference of RF output channel and its MAIN C.B.A.
adjacent TV channel is occurred, pleasemake
following modifications. © _ -
(1). Cut the foil on the Main C.B.A. between L__
... pin-5 .of the.RF converter. and. REG.12V à
line. Lo CT
(2). Short the pin-3 and pin-5 in RF
converter unit.
(3). Add the DIODE (MA73) between the pin-30 ©
and pin-55 of Timer IC (IC7501) on the A

When power is turned “ON” (Initial condition), VTR

When VTR becomes playback mode, VTR turns "VTR”
mode automatically.
If you want to select TV mode again, you must turn
OFF the power and then power ON the VTR again.
SERVICE INFORMATION
1-1. HOW TO CHECK THE CRACKED
CHIP PART
(1) Apply heat to the soldered portions of chip
part using a soldering iron for about 2-3
seconds. |
(2) If the chip part 1$ faulty,it will be broken
or cracked. BE m
Caution:Do not leave soldering ıron on the PCB too
long as damage may occur to the PCB or the
chip parts.

Note: Regarding intermittent faults
The main causes of these faults are poor
soldering and cracked chip parts.
1.2 HOW TO REPLACE THE CHIP PART
1) REMOVAL (RESISTOR, CAPACITOR, etc...)
(1) Presolder the one side of. soldering portion
for chip part and grasp the chip part by
tweezers. 0... u.
(2) Melt the presoldered portion. And then remove
melting the soldering portion of another side
quickly. .

2) REMOVAL (transistor, diode, etc...)
(1) Grasp the chip part with tweezers and melt the
solder of one lead.

(2) Lift the side of that lead upward.

Caution:Do not lift the chip part too high as
damage may occur to the PCB or the leads
that are still soldered on the PCB.
(3) Simultaneously heat the solder of the two
remaining leads and lift part to remove.

3) INSTALLATION
(1) Presolder the one side of- contact point on the
circuit board. .-

(2) To install the chip part,hold in position
using tweezers, apply heat to the pre-soldered
portions using a fine tip soldering iron.
(3) Solder the other side of the chip part.
(4) Check your soldering.

1-3. HOW TO REMOVE THE FLAT-IC
(WITH HOT-AIR FLAT-IC DESOLDERING MACHINE)
(WITH SOLDERING IRON)
(1) Using solder braid remove the solder from all
pins of the Flat-IC.
When you use the solder flux which is applied
to all pins of the Flat-IC,you can remove it
easily.

(2) Lift each lead of the Flat-IC upward one by
one using a sharp pin or non solder wire(iron
wire),while heating the pins using a fine tip
soldering iron or a hot air blower.

(1) Prepare the HOT-AIR FLAT-IC DESOLDERING
MACHINE. And then apply hot air to FLAT-IC
about 5 ~ 8 seconds.
(2) Remove the FLAT-IC with tweezers. while
applying the hot air.
Caution:Do not supply the hot air to the chip
parts around the Flat-IC for long time as
as damage may occur to the chip parts
around the Flat -IC.

(1) Affix. the wire to workbench or solid mounting
point as shown in FIG.G12.
(2) Pull up wire as the solder melts so as to lift
the IC lead from the PCB contact pad,while
heating the pins using a fine tip soldering
iron or hot air blower.

Note: When using a soldering iron care must be
taken to ensure that the Fiat IC ts not being
held by glue before it is the PCB may be

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS
1-1. FEATURES

High-Response Mechanism. (G1-Revised)
In order to achieve the quick operation. Dual-
mode Loading Stop System is introduced on this
Gi-Revised Mechanism as G2 mechanism.
(Microprocessor is also changed comparing with
erasure prevention tab removed playback will
start automatically. ”
Auto Rewind
When the tape reaches its end during recording
(except OTR and timer recording) or playback,
it will automatically be rewound to the
beginning.
VTR-Off Eject
When the VTR is off, the inserted cassette can
be ejected simply by pressing the Eject Button,
and VTR will automatically turn itself off
again.

EDIT ON: For editing operations such as dubbing.
OFF: For ordinary use of the VTR.
NOISE FILTER ON: For playback of tapes with inferior
picture quality caused, for example, by repeated dubbing.
e When the Noise Filter/Edit Selector is set to "EDIT
ON", the picture sharpness cannot be adjusted
with the Picture Sharpness Control.

Digital Tracking
When playback is started after inserting a cassette, and
the VTR is turned on, the Digital Tracking function will be
activated automatically, the Digital Tracking Indicator will
flash for several seconds, and the tracking will be adjusted
automatically (after the adjustment, the Digital Tracking
Indicator will remain lit).
e During playback, the Digital Tracking function will be
activated whenever the playback changes over from an
unrecorded part to a recorded part, provided the
recorded part is longer than 4 seconds.

e When the picture is distorted by noise bars, press
the Tracking "+" or “—" Button to select manual
tracking and adjust with these two buttons. The
Digital Tracking Indicator goes out.
To change back to Digital Tracking, press the
o Tracking "+" and “-" Buttons simuitaneously.
Vertical Lock Adjustment
If vertical jitter occurs, adjust with the V-Lock “+"or"-"
Button during Still playback.
e When the AC Mains Lead is unplugged or a power failure
occurs, perform the vertical lock adjustment again.

With this switch, the video signa! can be switched over to
the Euro AV Connector. When a satellite TV (PAL) decoder
(descrambler) is connected, the satellite signal (PAL) can
be recorded by pressing the Input Signal Selector (the “A1”
Indicator in the Multi-Function Display lights up) and the
picture of the selected DBS broadcast appears on the TV
set.

Power Source for the Remote Controller
Ш The Remote Controller is powered by 2 IEC “R6” size
batteries. The life of the batteries is about one year,
however, it depends on the frequency of use. Inspect and
if necessary, replace the batteries once a year.
CAUTION FOR BATTERY REPLACEMENT
e Load the new batteries with their polarities ($ and ©)
aligned correctly.
* Do not apply heat to batteries, or internal short-circuit
may occur.
e if you do not intend to use the Remote Controller for a
long period of time, remove the batteries and store them
in a cool and dry place.

® Do not use an old and a new batteries together. (Also
never use an alkaline battery with a manganese battery.)

«The infra-red beam should be transmitted directly at the
Infra-red Remote Control Receiver on the front of the
VTR.
e Direct sunlight may interfere with the beam.
e The lightsensing angle of the Infra-red Remote Control
Receiver in the VTR is about 30° for each side from the
centre.
e The unit should be used within a range of about 7 meters
from the front of the VTR.
Recommendation
After the programming of timer recording(s) is completed,
press the Digital Scanner On/Off Button so that the
indications in the Display disappear, in order to save
battery power.

Although the lamp in the tip of the Bar Code Reading
Section lights up:
