Operation
IMPORTANT!
Inspect the area before work to ensure that there are no stones, sticks, pipes for irrigation or foreign objects.
When working adjust the speed accordingly based on the work being undertaken.
Engage the PTO few feet before entering the work area.
Caution!
During the RUNNING check the oil daily, and change the engine oil after the first 30 hours of operation.
Always follow the maintenance program information provided with the machine.
If the engine keeps stopping, it may be due to the density or quantity of vegetation. In this case reduce the forward speed to slow the machine. If the problem persists, then check the engine and/or the implement.
Whilst working, be careful near trees and bushes, and near curbs that could damage the implement, particularly blades and the transmission.
After finishing the work, switch off the engine, and check that the machine is locked.
Using the machine on slopes
Caution!
If the wheels slip while operating on a slope, correct the working angle using the steering levers (fig.1a, 9/10/11) .
You should always work across the face of the slope, never up and down.
For extra traction when cutting on slopes we recommend using either the twin 5.0x10 wheels or the wide 8.0x10 lug wheels, or fit the steel bank wheels.
When changing direction be careful that the wheels do not hit obstacles (stones, branches, roots, etc.) that could cause you to lose control of the machine.
Be careful when operating on loose soil or wet grass because the machine could slip.
To descend the slope, use a slow speed and avoid passing over dry or cut grass because the wheels could lose traction.
Working on slopes, in case of use of the clutch an automatic brake will lock the machine in every condition of stationery work, also with engine off.
BCS660HY/0819 Page 19
BCS 660HY Hydrostatic Commander
Operation
Caution!
Do not unlock the automatic brake (figs. 1a & 1b, 4) whilst on the slope. To change the speed from 1st to 2nd and vice-versa, hold the hydro-control lever (fig. 1a,
13) at the minimum speed, never put into neutral.
Hydrostatic transmission / Gearbox
The transmission is composed of a hydrostatic unit and gears in an oil bath with 2 ranges of speed forward and reverse.
The 2 speeds are adjustable; the low range should be used for working.
There is a neutral position for moving the machine with a safety lock to avoid accidental engagement of the implement.
There is also a stationery brake (auto-hold) that locks the machine with the engine off.
Hydraulic steering Brakes - Clutches (work / service)
The machine has 2 integrated steering brakes/clutches. They have multiple discs, automatic adjustment of the play, and are independent for each wheel. They are controlled by a lever on the handlebar, with a double lever for right steering.
Mechanic stationery brake
The automatic brake (auto-hold), locks the machine in any working situation and also with engine off (fig. 1a, 28) .
Checking the oil levels
Check the engine and gearbox oil levels daily and ensure there is no leakage. See pages 24-25 for more information on how to change the oil.
Clean the air filter daily.
Greasing
The machine and implements are equipped with a geasing point (identified in the specific user manual). Daily general lubrication extends the life of the machine, so it is strongly recommended that the instructions in the relevant user manuals are followed.
Page 20 BCS660HY/0819
BCS 660HY Hydrostatic Commander
After Work
After work, move the clutch lever 8 (fig.9/1a) and disengage the PTO using the lever 2 (fig.9/1a);
To stop, move the lever 13 (fig.9/1a) to neutral;
Move the throttle lever 5 (fig.9/1a) to the minimum;
Stop the engine by means of the lever 6 (fig.9/1a) turning the lever in position of “O”;
Before to abandon the machine check if it is locked.
To keep the machine and the engine in good working order, it is recommended that cleaning is carried out daily and remove dust, mud, leaves, dry or encrusted grass, etc.
Cleaning engine and air filter
IMPORTANT!
To clean the engine and the dry air filter use only compressed air, never wash the engine with a hydro-cleaner. If the air filter is in oil bath it is necessary to wash and clean the oil container and redo the level.
Cleaning of the implements
Clean daily the implements used to work by removing mud, dry grass, wrapped rope etc. and blowing it with compressed air and lubricated as by manual.
Storing the machine
Return the machine to a dry environment, sheltered against bad weather and, if possible, cover it with a cloth; make sure that the engine and discharge tube are cold.
Start the engine at least every 30 days.
If a prolonged period of inactivity is expected (longer than one month), follow the instructions contained in the engine instruction book. Grease all the joints.
To protect the engine in case of prolonged inactivity, it is recommended that fuel preservative is used. This can be purchased from Tracmaster and their authorised dealers.
Following the instructions for the fuel preservative carefully, mix the preservative with the fuel in the tank, or in the container of fuel, and run the engine for a few minutes.
The preservative prevents sticking of the pump and the injector, is an antioxidant, and maintains the original features of the fuel keeping it active for a long time.
The protective and preserving effect of the fuel preservative may even last up to 24 months.
Is also recommended for petrol engines because it preserves the fuel for a long time and protects the carburetor.
BCS660HY/0819 Page 21

Efficient maintenance and correct lubrication contribute towards keeping the machine in perfect working order.
Engine
For the maintenance intervals follow the instructions given in the operating manual for your specific engine.
As a guide, you should check the oil level every 4 hours of work and replace it yearly or every
100 hours of work.
Always use good quality oil as indicated on the engine user manual.
Oil-bath air filter
If you work in dusty conditions then the air filter may need cleaning more frequently. Wash the filtering hank and add oil every 8 hours, use the same engine oil.
Dry air filter
For engines that have an air filter with the paper filter component, these should be cleaned with air. However if the filter is very clogged, punctured or if the sealing surface has become damaged then it should be replaced.
Do not use the engine if the filter is in poor condition or missing.
