IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS — Save Original Packing Materials The original shipping carton and packing materials will come in handy if you ever have to ship your VCR. For maximum protection, repack the set as it was originally packed at the factory. Avoid Volatile Liquid Do not use volatile liquids, such as an insect spray, near the unit. Do not leave rubber or plastic products touching the unit for a long time. They will mar the finish. Moisture Condensation Never operate this unit immediately after moving it from a cold location to a warm location. When the-VCR is exposed to such a change in temperature, moisture may condense on the cylinder inside, one of its most crucial internal parts. To prevent the VCR from possible damage, do not use the unit for at least 2 hours when there is an extreme or sudden change in temperature. Setting up the Remote Control Open the battery compartment lid on the rear panel. 2 Install 2 batteries (“AAA” size) following the polarity diagrams. Point the remote control at the VCR and press the buttons within the operating range as illustrated. Distance: within about 7 m from the front of the remote sensor Angles: within about 30° in every direction The life of the batteries is about 1 year depending on the conditions of use. | lf the remote control does not operate correctly, replace all batteries with new ones. Do not dispose of the batteries by fire. If the remote control is not to be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries to avoid possible damage from battery corrosion. When using the remote control, press the buttons at intervals of about 1 second to ensure the correct mode of operation. Keep the remote control away from extremely hot or humid places and avoid sharp impacts. Do not expose the remote sensor of the VCR to a strong light source such as direct sunlight or | illumination. Be careful not to spill water on the remote control or to place it on anything wet. PREPARATION BA CONNECTIONS Before you use this VCR, it is necessary to connect it to your TV. Several ways of connecting are available depending on your use of TV or cable box. Select o Antenna/VCR/TV Connection 1 Disconnect the antenna cable from your TV and connect it to the RF IN terminal on the VCR. 2 Connect the RF OUT terminal to the TV. Set the output channel selector on the rear panel of the VCR to “3CH” or “4CH”, whichever is vacant in your area, so that your TV can receive the signals. If you made the connection with the audio/video cable (on next page), you do not need to set this. For details, see page 24. Connecting your TV using the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks lt is not necessary to set the output channel selector (3CH/4CH) on the VCR and TV channel 3 or 4. To watch video pictures, set the video input mode on your TV. For the video input mode, refer to the manual of your TV. As the playback starts, the VCR automatically activates the 19u head and reproduces high quality pictures. OFF: Set to “OFF” if the pictures are marred by dots. They are switchable with the REMAIN/COUNTER button. To reset the linear time counter to “OHOOM00S” The counter is automatically reset to “OHOOMOOS” when a cassette is ejected. If you want to reset at another point, such as the beginning of a new recording, just press the COUNTER RESET button.
