DESIGN
“büS” is a system bus developed by Bürkert with a communication protocol based on CANopen. The description of the CANopen objects (index / subindex) can be found in a separate document on the Bürkert website (search for: Type / Downloads / Software).
The following explanations refer to the application of the e.g.
EtherNet/IP protocol using a Bürkert gateway preconfigured for a maximum of 63 control heads.
However, the following bus systems are also supported by the
Bürkert gateway: PROFINET, Modbus/TPC, PROFIBUS DPV1,
EtherCAT, CC-Link.
After the electrical and pneumatic installation of the büS/CANopen
control heads in the network (see chapter “7” and from

Network configuration
The Type 8681 büS/CANopen control heads are preferably operated with a (preconfigured) ME43 Gateway.
Installation, registration, changing the IP address (e.g. using Bürkert
Communicator, LogixDesigner, etc.) are described in detail in the
Operating Instructions Type 8681.
The configuration of the entire network (consisting of gateway, PLC, control heads) using Bürkert Communicator or LogixDesigner, e.g. the „Hide“ function and the reading/writing of cyclic and acyclic parameters, is also described there – as an example for EtherNet/IP.
The Operating Instructions Type 8681 also contain several cabling examples for büS networks.

12.6
Network principles
Several aspects must be considered when installing a büS/
CANopen fieldbus system.
• Each “node” requires its own “node ID”, each gateway can control up to 63 “nodes” (max. number applies to control heads
Type 8681 büS).
• The CAN cable must be “terminated” at both ends: Terminate the end of the CAN cable with a terminating resistor (120 Ω ) or, if the cable ends at a distribution box, connect the terminating resistor to the CAN OUT connection.
• If the voltage loss is too high, an additional power supply must be fed into a distribution box (PWR IN connection).
• Observe baud rates and maximum cable lengths (see “12.7”
)
• A PC with Bürkert Communicator Type 8920 can be connected for service work and also for reading CAN data.
• Required tightening torque for all M12 plug-in connections
(cables, T-pieces, ...) to ensure the necessary seal tightness against moisture: 0.6 Nm + 0.1 Nm.
• Seal all open connections tightly with protective caps!
Further details - see Operating Instructions Type 8681.

Bus error / Safety position of the solenoid valves
Bus failure is indicated via the central multi-colour device status display (Top LED). The bus status LED “Network” on the electronic
module ( “Fig. 9”) also indicates whether a bus error has occurred
without differentiating between special blinking patterns.
Bus errors can be caused, for example, by communication problems with the gateway or PLC, incorrect addressing of node IDs, incorrect baud rate.
Safety position of the solenoid valves in the event of a bus error
If the bus fails, the solenoid valves are switched to a programmable safety position (default: The solenoid valves are in the power-off state). For details on the configuration - see Operating Instructions
Type 8681 (chapter “Safety position in case of bus failure” ).
12.7
Bus line length
The maximum total line length (sum of trunk lines and drop lines) of a network depends on the baud rate.

I/O data (cyclic) and parameters
(acyclic)
Each control head has 6 byte of input data and 1 byte of output data (bit-coded): Position feedback S1 ... S4 and solenoid valve switching statuses V1 ... V3. In LogixDesigner, these can, e.g., be found as “controller tags”.
Further, i.e. acyclic, data/parameters are listed together with con figured fieldbus addresses in a parameter list and can be down loaded from the homepage (search for: Ident no. of configured gateway / Downloads / Software (ZIP container)).
13 IO-LINK DESIGN
IO-Link is an internationally standardized IO technology (IEC
61131-9) to enable sensors and actuators to communicate. IO-Link is a point-to-point communication with 3- or 5- wire connection technology for sensors and actuators and unshielded standard sensor cables.
IO-Link devices are connected with conventional IO-Link masters and can be integrated easily into any conventional fieldbus or automation system.
To ensure unambiguous communication, IO-Link devices should not be configured simultaneously using the higher-level controller
(PLC) via the IO-Link master and using the Bürkert Communicator
(via the service interface).

Bus error / Safety position of the solenoid valves
Bus failure or bus error are indicated via the central multi-colour device status display (Top LED). Bus errors can be caused, for example, by communication problems with the IO-Link master or PLC.
Safety position of the solenoid valves in the event of a bus error
If the bus fails, the solenoid valves are switched to a programmable safety position (default: The solenoid valves are in the power-off english 33
state). For details on the configuration - see Operating Instructions
Type 8681 (chapter “Safety position in case of bus failure”) .
Details on the IO Link design are provided in the Operating Instructions Type 8681 , for download from the

14.4
LED – colour assignments
The color combinations of the Top LED will be defined via the DIP
switches for colour coding – see “Fig. 4”, “Fig. 8”, “Fig. 9”
(exception
IO-Link: color assignment only by parameterization). In the delivery state, the following position feedback is defined:
S1 - green, continuously lit,
S2 - yellow, continuously lit,
S3 - green, continuously flashing (250 ms/250 ms)
It is also possible to set different colour combinations with the help of the DIP switches - see Operating Instructions, chapter “Setting the colour combinations”.
In the event of a fault, the Top LED flashes in differently coded blinking patterns - see Operating Instructions, chapter “Blinking pattern/
Fault signaling”.
If various signals overlap, there are feedback priorities - see Oper ating Instructions, chapter “Signal priorities”.
For the büS/CANopen and IO-Link design:
There are further setting options for colors, display modes, blinking patterns, signal priorities – see Operating Instructions Type 8681.

OPEN
Software).
vorzunehmen:
→
Adressierung der Steuerköpfe (Kap. “12.10” )
→
Setzen der Baudrate (Kap. “12.10”
)
→

)

Sicherheitsstellung geschaltet (Default: Magnet ventile stromlos).
Details zur Konfiguration - siehe Bedienungsanleitung Typ 8681
(unter „Sicherheitsstellung bei Ausfall des Busses“ ).

I/O-Daten (zyklisch) und Parameter
(azyklisch)
Jeder Steuerkopf verfügt über 6 Byte Eingangs- und 1 Byte Ausgangsdaten (bitcodiert): Stellungsrückmeldungen S1 ... S4 sowie
Magnetventil-Schaltzustände V1 ... V3.

):
• DIP-Schalter 1 bis 6: für die büS-/CANopen-Adresse
Node-ID)
Werkseinstellung: 0 (softwarekonfigurierbar, Vorein stellung „Autoadressierung“), d. h. DIP 1 - 6: off/aus
• DIP-Schalter 7 bis 8: für die Baudrate
Werkseinstellung: softwarekonfigurierbar (Ersteinstellung
500 kBit/s), d. h. DIP 7 + 8: on/ein

PWR IN).

(voir
« Fig. 9 » et chap. « 12.4 ») :
• Interrupteurs DIP 1 à 6 : pour l'adresse büS/CANopen
(Node-ID)
