BK Precision 1604A is a portable isolation transformer designed to enhance safety when servicing or testing electrical equipment, particularly those with a "hot chassis" design, such as older televisions or other equipment with a two-wire AC power plug. By isolating the equipment under test from the main power source, it eliminates the risk of electrical shock and damage to test equipment. With a continuous output current rating of 1.25 amps and an intermittent rating of 2 amps, it can handle the power demands of most solid-state television receivers and other devices.

WARNING
1 Touching a “hot chassis” is hazardous and can cause fatal electrical shock Most television receivers and other equipment with a two-wire ac power plug are the “hot chassis” type To service such equipment, always connect an isolation transformer between the wall outlet and “hot chassis” equipment
2 Most “hot chassis” products have a plastic or wooden cabinet that insulates the chassis and prevents the user from touching it However, when the cabinet or back is removed for servicing the product, the chassis is exposed and becomes an electrical shock hazard to the service technician
3 Even units with polarized power plugs are often “hot chassis” type. Treat any piece of equipment with a two-wire power plug as “hot chassis” type and use the isolation transformer for safety. There is no disadvantage to using the isolation transformer, even in cases where it is not needed.
4 In addition to the electrical shock hazard, there is also a high probability of damage to any ac powered test equipment used to service such equipment
5 The isolation transformer may become very warm when operating at high output current Touch with care
The B & K Precision Model 1604A Isolation Transformer provides the necessary safety factor mentioned above The 1 25 amp continuous output current rating is adequate for almost any solid state television receiver The 2 amp intermittent output current rating offers enough reserve for the occasional defective or “power hungry” unit when cycled 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off Overload protection is provided by convenient front panel
OVERLOAD circuit breakers; simply PUSH TO RESET

Connect power plug of equipment under test to outlet on front panel of
Model 1604A Isolation Transformer
If OVERLOAD circuit breaker on front panel of unit trips after a few minutes operation, allow 5 minutes for cooling, then PUSH TO RESET
If OVERLOAD circuit breaker trips immediately or after only a few seconds operation, the unit is severely overloaded The equipment under test may be shorted Do not PUSH TO RESET until the overload is removed
