HANDLING YOUR DVD TABLET, PLEASE BE AWARE OF OF ALL WARNINGS AND SAFETY

PRECAUTIONS LISTED BELOW.

Never spill, drip, or splash any liquid of any kind on the player.

Never place any liquid-filled object, such as a vase, near or on the player.

Never insert anything into the player, where objects can come into contact with high voltage nodes or damage internal components.

Do not attempt to service the player yourself. Opening or removing covers exposes high voltage nodes and other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Do not touch the player or antenna during thunderstorms. Unplug the player during thunderstorms or if it will not be used for extended periods. Failure to do so may result in electric shock or fire.

Before cleaning the player, unplug it from the wall. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. Never use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

To prevent overheating and ensure reliable operation, place the player only in a well ventilated location. Avoid cramped or inadequately ventilated locations.

Note: Read all safety and operating instructions before operating your new DVD tablet. Any use of the player other than that described in this document may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Conformity and Compliance

FCC Compliance Statement

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. Introduction

Congratulations on purchasing your new Protron DVD Tablet!

With a large 10.2" screen and over two and a half hours of battery life, your new player allows you to watch movies on the road, in the air—anywhere.

Further, your DVD player can play music and photo CDs so you can listen to music or browse photo albums wherever you are.

Audio and video outputs allow you to connect your player to a television and/or stereo system for the highest audio and video quality. A car power adapter allows you to use your player on the road for as long as you want.

And a television tuner allows you to watch TV on your player.

Unpacking Your New DVD Tablet

Before using your new DVD tablet, you should unpack the contents of the box and check to make sure everything is present and undamaged.

To unpack the player:

1. Open the box. Remove the carrying case and accessories box.

2. Remove the remote control from the left styrofoam pad.

3. Pull out the player and remove the pads.

4. Remove the plastic bag enclosing the player, then peel the protective plastic cover from the screen.

5. Check to ensure the items indicated below are included.

If any items are missing or damaged, contact the seller immediately.

6. Pull the plastic tab out of the battery slot on the remote.

7. Connect the power adapter to a wall socket using the power cable.

8. Connect the other end of the power adapter to the

DC-IN9.0V jack on the left of the player. The CHG light on the front of the player should come on red, indicating that the battery is charging.

Turning the Player On and Off

Once a charged battery is attached to the player or the player is attached to a power outlet with the power adapter, you can turn the player on.

To turn the player on or off, slide the switch on the left side of the player to the appropriate position.

Inserting a Disc

The receptacle for DVDs and CDs is located on the right side of the player. To insert a disc, slide it into the slot.

Adjusting the Volume

The VOL knob on the left side of the player sets the speaker and headphones volume. To adjust the volume, swivel the knob in the appropriate direction.

In addition, there is an independent volume control on the remote. Use the VOL and VOL buttons to adjust this control.

Using Headphones

To listen to the audio using headphones, plug them into the jack on the left side of the player.

The speakers will mute when headphones are plugged in.

Adjusting Color Settings and Display Format

The FUNCTION button can be used to adjust brightness, contrast, and display format. You can set the display format to 16:9 (widescreen) or 4:3.

To adjust color settings or display format:

1. Press FUNCTION repeatedly until the desired setting appears.

2. Use CH– and CH+ to adjust the selected setting.

Bringing Up the On-Screen Display

The On-Screen Display (OSD) gives information about the current disc and playback. To bring up the OSD, press the DISPLAY button on the remote.

Accessing the Setup Menu

The Setup menu allows you to configure the operation of the player. You can change video, audio, and language settings, and control access to mature programming. See

“Configuring the Player” on page 25 for more information. To access the Setup menu, press the

SETUP button on the remote.

Charging the Battery

The battery life of the included battery pack is more than two and a half hours. The battery is located on the back of the player.

Note: Do not attempt to remove the battery. If the battery needs to be repaired or replaced, take the player to a qualified service technician.

To charge the battery, attach one end of the power adapter to the DC-IN9.0V jack on the player, and the other end to a power source using the power cable. The CHG light on the front of the player will shine red when the battery is charging and will turn off when the battery is fully charged.

Setting Up the Stand

There is a stand on the back of the player that allows you to stand the player up on any level surface.

To use the stand:

1. Pull the stand out as far as it will go.

2. Slide the switch at the top of the stand to the UNLOCK position to unlock the stand extension.

3. Extend stand out until it is at the desired length.

4. Slide the switch to the LOCK position to lock the stand extension.

Using the Remote Control

The remote control can be used to control every aspect of the player’s operation and includes more functionality than the controls on the player itself.

Using the Remote Control

Replacing the Remote Battery

The remote requires a 3V lithium battery (CR2025), which is held in a small enclosure at the bottom of the remote.

To replace the battery:

1. Turn the remote over.

2. Release the battery enclosure and pull it out of the remote.

3. Remove the old battery and replace it with the new battery. The positive (+) terminal should face up.

4. Slide the enclosure back into the remote.

CAUTION:

Danger of explosion if battery is replaced incorrectly. Replace only with same or equivalent type.

Playing DVDs

DVDs will play upon insertion. The player can perform all standard DVD playback and search functions.

The On-Screen Display

The DVD OSD has two modes:

Playing Video CDs

Video CDs can contain video or still images such as photos. Your DVD tablet will play all standard

Video CD formats.

Upon insertion, the player will read and begin to play the CD.

If there is a menu on the CD, it will appear, allowing you to navigate through the tracks stored on the CD. Otherwise, the player will begin playing the video back beginning with the first track.

If the CD contains still pictures, the player will display them as a slideshow.

The On-Screen Display

The Video CD OSD displays the current track, mute status, playback control status (PBC—the playback control status determines whether the disc menu is available), repeat mode, and playback time.

Using the Menu

The menu allows you to navigate tracks and program playback sequence.

There are three views within the menu, listed at the bottom right of the screen, which allow playback of different types of media: audio (MP3/WMA), image (JPEG), and video (MPEG).

The left column gives a list of folders on the disc. When an image is selected in the right column, the left column shows a preview of the image.

The right column gives a list of files in the current folder.

Watching Television and Listening to the Radio

Your DVD tablet includes built-in TV and FM radio tuners, as well as an external antenna so you can watch TV and listen to the radio on the player. You can also watch cable TV if you have a cable hook-up.

Setting up the Television Tuner

The signal input for the TV tuner is located on the left side of the player and labeled TUNER.

To connect a TV signal:

1. Connect the included antenna to the TUNER input.

Or, if you would like to connect a different antenna or a cable TV signal to the player, use the included coaxial-to-SMB cable (see page 2) to connect the signal to the TUNER input.

2. Set the TV signal type in the Setup menu (see “TV

Function Setup” on page 27). Use “Antenna” if you have connected an antenna to the player, or

“CATV” if you have connected a cable TV signal.

3. Scan the signal spectrum using the Auto Search function under the TV Function Setup menu (see “TV Function Setup” on page 27).

You are now ready to watch television on your player.

Viewing a Television Broadcast

Once you have connected the TV signal and configured the player, you can watch television on the player.

To watch television:

1. Ensure a signal source is connected and configured, as above.

2. Switch the signal source to TV using the DVD/TV/FM button on the remote or the MODE button on the player.

3. Use the CH– and CH+ buttons to change the channel.

Watching Television and Listening to the Radio

Setting up the FM Radio Tuner

The signal input for the FM radio tuner is located on the left side of the player and labeled

TUNER.

To connect an FM radio signal:

1. Connect the included antenna to the TUNER input.

2. Switch the signal source to FM using the DVD/TV/

FM button on the remote.

3. Press the SEARCH button on the remote to scan for radio stations. This will set the first 30 stations found as presets.

You are now ready to listen to the radio on your player.

Listening to FM Radio

Once you have connected the FM radio signal and configured the player, you can listen to the radio on the player.

To listen to the radio:

1. Ensure a signal source is connected and configured, as above.

2. Switch the signal source to FM using the DVD/TV/FM button on the remote or the MODE button on the player.

3. Use the CH– and CH+ buttons to cycle through the presets.

Use the and buttons to scan for radio stations, ignoring the presets.

Use the and buttons to adjust the reception frequency by 0.1MHz.

Configuring the Player

The Setup menu allows you to configure the operation of the player. You can change video, audio, and language settings, control access to mature programming, and configure other general display behavior.

To use the Setup menu:

1. Press the SETUP button to bring up the menu.

2. Once the menu appears, use the and buttons to navigate the sub-menus listed at the top of the menu.

3. Press to enter a sub-menu. (Press repeatedly to leave a sub-menu.)

4. Use and to select an item. A list of the options available for the currently selected item will show to the right.

5. Press to enter the list of available options.

Configuring the Player

Dual Mono

Turns mono audio on and off and configures how it is mixed:

• Stereo —No mono

• Mono Left —Left channel only

• Mono Right —Right channel only

• Mix Mono —Left and right channels mixed

Down Sample

Selects the sample rate used for digital audio output: 48kHz or 96kHz

Speaker

Turns the built-in speakers on and off

TV Function Setup

The TV Function Setup menu configures the TV tuner.

The menu items are as follows:

TV Signal

Sets the type of TV signal the tuner uses:

EXIT SETUP

• Antenna —Used when an antenna is connected to the player’s TUNER input

• CATV —Used when a cable TV signal is connected to the player

• CATV IRC —Incrementally Related Carrier mode cable TV (a type of cable signal primarily used on the East Coast of the US)

• CATV HRC —Harmonically Related Carrier mode cable TV (a type of cable signal primarily used on the West Coast of the US)

Note: If you are connecting directly to a cable TV wall outlet, contact your cable company to find out which system is used in your area. CATV IRC will work with most systems.

Auto Search

Scans the signal spectrum and weeds out the channels with insufficient signal strength

System Setup

The System Setup menu configures access to mature content, allowing you to block mature content with a password. In addition, you can reset all player settings back to factory defaults.

The menu items are as follows:

Password

Locks and unlocks parental control settings with a password

If the lock icon is closed, the settings are locked—enter the current password to unlock the settings. The factory default password is '0000'.

If the lock icon is open, the settings are unlocked. To lock them, enter a new password.

Using the Player in a Vehicle

Your DVD tablet is designed to accommodate usage in a vehicle. A vehicle power adapter is included to power the player from your vehicle, and the carrying case can be adapted to attach the player to a seatback.

Attaching to a Seatback

The carrying case that can be used to attach the player to a seatback.

To attach the player to a seatback:

1. Undo the small elastic straps on the tablet sleeve and slide the player in so the screen matches up with the large hole on the front.

2. Secure the elastic straps to hold the player in.

3. Fold the top and bottom of the case back behind the player and secure using the Velcro strip.

4. Attach the small strap to the clips above the player and wrap it securely around the base of the headrest.

5. Attach the large strap to the clips below the player and wrap it securely around the base of the seat.

6. Plug in the player as below.

Connecting Power

To connect the player to the vehicle’s power supply, attach one end of the included vehicle power adapter to the

Connecting the Player to Other Devices

You can connect your DVD tablet to an external display for a larger picture, or to an external audio system for better sound.

Connecting to a Separate Display

There is one video output located on the left side of the player, labeled VIDEO. You can connect this output to a display using the included video adapter cable.

To connect the video output to a separate display:

1. Connect the yellow RCA connector on the video adapter cable to the composite video input on the display.

2. Connect the 1/8" end to the VIDEO jack on the left side of the player.

3. Select the correct TV System and TV Type settings under the General Setup sub-menu in the Setup menu (see “Configuring the Player” on page 25).

To connect the audio output to the display:

1. Attach the red (right) and white (left) connectors on the audio adapter cable to the display’s audio input.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to the AUDIO jack on the left side of the player.

Connecting to an Audio System

There are two outputs that can be used to connect to an external audio system: analog and digital. If your audio system supports optical digital audio, use the digital output, as it will provide better sound quality.

To connect to a digital (S/PDIF) system:

1. Use a TOSLINK™ miniplug cable to connect the

AUDIO output on the player to an optical digital audio input on the audio system.

2. Once connected, select the appropriate digital audio format under the Audio Setup sub-menu in the Setup menu (see “Configuring the Player” on page 25).

Troubleshooting

Power light does not come on

No picture

No picture on external display

Unclear or noisy picture on external display

Possible Cause

Power cord(s) not securely connected

Power outlet is off or not working

Resolution

Make sure the power adapter is securely connected between the DC-IN9.0V jack on the player and the wall outlet.

Try plugging a different device into the outlet and see if it turns on. If not, check that the outlet is on or use a different outlet.

Battery is discharged Recharge the battery and/or plug in the player.

Player is in power saving mode

Press to bring the player out of power saving mode.

Contrast or brightness too low or too high

Incorrect video format selected

Adjust the contrast and/or brightness to desired setting. See “Adjusting Color Settings and

Display Format” on page 5.

Select the correct TV System in the Setup menu under General Setup. See “General Setup” on page 25.

No signal

Signal cable(s) not securely connected

Radio interference

Incorrect video format selected

Make sure the proper source is selected on the external display. If there is still no picture, check the signal cable(s) and ensure the player is on and working.

Make sure the signal cable(s) are firmly connected.

Check for any electronic devices nearby that might be interfering with the video signal or the player’s operation.

Select the correct TV System in the Setup menu under General Setup. See “General Setup” on page 25.

Poor television signal If you are using an antenna, move the antenna to a position with better reception, or obtain and use a more powerful antenna.

Audio cable(s) not securely connected

Headphones plugged in

Audio muted

If the player is connected to a cable TV signal, ensure the cable is connected securely.

Otherwise, contact your cable service provider.

Make sure the audio signal cable(s) are firmly connected.

Unplug the headphones.

Unmute the audio by pressing the on the remote.

This is characteristic of an LCD. The after-image will disappear after a few minutes.

Check that the correct TV Type is selected under

General Setup in the Setup menu.

This is characteristic of an LCD and will not cause a malfunction.

Ensure disc is not scratched or dirty. Clean and re-insert as necessary.

Ensure the disc has a format compatible with the player (see “Specifications” on page 34).

Do not return this product to your retailer until you have performed the steps laid out in

“Unpacking Your New DVD Tablet” on page 2 and contacted the customer service center.

Limited Warranty

Protron warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship under normal use for the period listed at the bottom of this document.

How to obtain service:

• Call the Protron Customer Support line at 1-888-257-8899. If the issue cannot be resolved over the phone, a service tag number will be issued and the product must be returned to

Protron, at your expense, for assessment and repair/replacement. To request warranty repair, you may also contact us by email at [email protected]. For all other customer service related inquiries, please email us at [email protected].

• Proof of purchase in the form of a bill of sale or receipted invoice with product name, model and serial #, which provides evidence that the product is within the warranty period, must accompany the product to obtain warranty service.

This warranty does not cover:

• Physical or cosmetic damages.

• Damage caused by abuse and/ or neglect.

• Ordinary adjustments as outlined in the owners manual that can be performed by the customer.

• Damage to equipment not properly connected to the product.

• Any cost incurred in shipping the product for repair.

• Signal reception problems caused by external antenna, cable systems or interference.

• Incompatibility due to a change in TV/CATV broadcast systems after the product was sold.

• Batteries.

• Images burnt onto the screen.

• Initial installation and related adjustments.

• Power surge and/or damage by lightning.

What we will do:

• Protron will assess the product and cover all labor charges to repair your product.

• Protron will provide new, or at our discretion, refurbished replacement parts required to repair your product.

This warranty is void if:

• Product is used in a commercial application or rental.

• Damaged through misuse, negligence or abuse.

• Modified or repaired by anyone other than an authorized PROTRON service center.

• Damaged because it is improperly connected to any other equipment.

• The original proof of purchase cannot be supplied.

Limited Warranty

• The identifiable markings on the product such as Serial # are defaced, unrecognizable, or missing.
