Hazard for children and a wider group of persons

z z z

This device is not intended for use by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities or lacking experience and/or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or have received instructions for use of the device from this person in advance.

Supervise your children in order to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Keep packaging bags and films away from babies and small children; there is a risk of suffocation! z z z z

Hazard from electricity

z z z z z z z

The base and power cable must not be immersed in water or other liquids. Electrical shock hazard! Therefore, also do not use the kettle in the vicinity of moisture sources, e.g. a sink.

The kettle is filled with water, but must not be immersed in water itself. Water must not come into contact with the electric parts in the bottom section and with the base.

Do not operate the appliance with wet hands.

Do not operate the appliance outdoors.

Connect the appliance to a properly installed safety socket with voltage corresponding to the “technical data”.

Ensure that the socket is well-accessible, so that you can remove the mains plug quickly, if necessary.

Always switch the kettle off prior to filling with water.

Do not operate the kettle unsupervised.

Do not use the appliance:

- if the kettle or base are damaged,

- if the power cable or mains plug are damaged,

- if the kettle has fallen.

Unwind the power cable completely prior to use. In doing so, ensure that the power cable is not damaged by sharp edges, hot items or rotating parts.

Disconnect the mains plug from the socket:

- if you are not using the kettle,

- after each use,

- before cleaning or putting the appliance away,

- if an obvious fault occurs during operation,

- in a thunder storm.

Do not carry out any modifications to the appliance or its power cable. Only have repairs carried out by a professional workshop, as devices that have not been properly repaired can be hazardous to the user. Also pay attention to the enclosed guarantee conditions.

Do not use an extension cord. If the power cable of this appliance should be damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its after-sales service or customer service in order to avoid hazards.

The appliance must not be connected to a time switch, a dimmer switch or any other remote control system.

Burning/scalding and fire hazard

z z z z z

The kettle becomes hot during use. Burn hazard! Only hold the handle.

When heating and during boiling, hot water vapour escapes. Scalding risk if touched!

Close the lid prior to switching the appliance on. Otherwise, the appliance cannot switch off automatically and the hot water can overboil. Ensure that the lid is locked in place.

WARNING: Do not open the lid during boiling and pouring. Risk of scalding from hot water vapour!

Pay attention to the MIN and MAX filling marks:

- If insufficient water is filled (below MIN ), the kettle can overheat.

- If too must water is filled (above MAX ), hot water can spray out of the kettle.

Burn hazard!

Injury hazards from other causes

z Do not allow the power cable to hang over the edge of the table top or work surface.

You could become caught on it or children could pull the appliance down with it.

Caution – property damage

z z z

Only use the supplied base.

Place the appliance on a sturdy, level surface. When doing so, make sure the appliance is not located near sources of heat e.g. hot plates, heating pipes etc. The power cable must lie securely in the cable recess of the base, so that the based stands securely.

Position the appliance so that hot water vapour will be ventilated away from other objects. Do not position the kettle beneath a hanging cabinet or shelf and turn the spout away from sensitive surfaces or wallpaper. Also maintain a distance to easily flammable materials, e.g. curtain or table cloth.

z z

There are feet on the underside of the base. As the furniture/floor surfaces are made of diverse materials and are treated with diverse care products, it cannot be entirely ruled out that some of these materials contain components, which could attack and soften the appliance feet. If necessary, place a non-slip underlay under the base.

Do not clean the kettle with hard, scratching or abrasive detergents, steel wool, or similar.

As soon as the mains plug is inserted into a socket and the kettle is placed on the base, the appliance consumes a small amount of electricity, even if you are not boiling water. Pull out the mains plug in order to completely disconnect the appliance from the power supply.

Keeping water warm

The kettle has a keep-warm function.

z z z

With a temperature of 40, 60, 80 or 100 °C, you can keep the water warm for approx.

30 minutes. Afterwards, the kettle switches off automatically; two signal tones will sound and all LEDs will extinguish.

If you have set a keep-warm temperature of 100 °C, the water will be kept warm within a range of 90-100 °C, in order to avoid excess steam generation.

If you have set a keep-warm temperature of 40, 60 or 80 °C, the kettle will keep the temperature approx. 8 °C below/above the set temperature.

Please note:

z z z z

Only use the keep-warm function if a minimum of 0.5 litres of water are in the kettle.

Otherwise, the small amount of water could boil away during the next 30 minutes and the dry-run protection (see page 11) will switch the appliance off.

If you cannot set a temperature, it is probably because the water temperature in the kettle is still higher than the desired temperature.

You can stop the boiling procedure at any time by pressing the on/off button or the

KEEP WARM button

As soon as you lift the kettle off of the base, the appliance will switch off and all settings will be lost.

The keep-warm function can be activated before, during and directly after boiling water.

Prior to boiling water:

1.

Press the KEEP WARM button.

2.

Press the SET TEMP button repeatedly until the appropriate temperature LED illuminates in the operating panel.

3.

Press the on/off button in order to start the boiling and subsequent keep-warm process.

The LED of the relevant temperature, the KEEP WARM and on/off button will illuminate.

The water is heated and then kept warm.

During boiling:

1.

Proceed as described in the “Boiling water” section (see from page 8).

2.

Press the KEEP WARM button during boiling.

After the water has boiled, the LED of the relevant temperature, the KEEP WARM and on/off button will illuminate.

The water will continue to be kept warm after heating

The LED of the relevant temperature, the KEEP WARM and on/off button will illuminate.

The water will be kept warm.

Dry-run protection

A dry-run protection safeguards the appliance from damage. The protection switches on automatically if no more liquid is in the kettle.

The dry-run protection should only be used as a safety device. It is not intended to be part of the normal operating procedure for the appliance.

If the dry-run protection has been activated:

1.

Disconnect the power plug from the socket.

2.

Allow the kettle to cool off.

Then, you can fill the kettle with water again and use it as usual.

Cleaning + descaling

Cleaning

HAZARD

- The base, kettle and power cable must not be immersed in water or other liquids. Electrical shock hazard!

- Remove the plug from the socket before cleaning the appliance.

- Allow the appliance to cool off completely before cleaning it. Burn hazard!

CAUTION

Do not open the lid during boiling and pouring. Risk of scalding from hot water vapour!

1.

Remove the plug from the socket and allow the kettle to cool off completely.

Wipe the outside of the kettle clean with a slightly damp cloth.

2.

Clean the base with a dry cloth.

3.

Open the lid and remove the sieve that is fastened in front of the spout. For this, press the sieve down slightly and then fold it off.

The sieve prevents limescale deposits and dirt particles from being poured out.

4.

Rinse the sieve under running water or clean it using a damp cloth.

5.

Reinsert the sieve into its holder in front of the spout. Ensure that it locks in securely.

If the sieve is already very calcified, place it into a mixture of water and vinegar (6:1 ratio) for a few hours. Afterwards, rinse the sieve with plenty of clear water.

Descaling

You should descale the kettle on a regular basis, as a very calcified kettle requires more electricity. How often the appliance needs descaling will depend on the hardness of the water used and frequency of use. z z

With normal use, you should descale the kettle every 3 months with soft water and 1x per month with hard water.

You should descale the appliance regularly to avoid thick calcification forming on the heating element in the kettle.

You can obtain information about the water hardness in your area from the local water authority.

For descaling, you can use commercially available descaler (pay attention to manufacturer instructions) or mix household vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio.

1.

Fill the kettle with descaling liquid and boil it.

2.

Afterwards, leave the liquid to take effect, for approx. half an hour.

3.

Where thick calcification is present: Boil the descaling liquid a second time.

Then, pour it away.

4.

Refill the kettle with fresh water, boil the water and also pour it away.

Afterwards, you can use the kettle as usual.

Faults and Rectification

Fault

No function.

Possible causes and rectification

- Mains plug in the socket?

- Kettle placed correctly on the base?

- Has the dry-run protection activated?

(see page 11).

Two signal tones sound when the button

is pressed.

Boiling process taking very long.

The temperature cannot be set during boiling/keeping warm.

- Function not possible, e.g. if you intend to heat the water to 60 °C, but the water is already at this temperature (e.g. from a previous boiling process).

- Correct temperature set?

- The kettle must be descaled, see page 12.

- Check whether the sieve is dirty inside and clean it, if necessary, see page 12.

When pouring, only a small amount of water is coming out of the spout.

Stains are forming on the base of the inside of the kettle.

- These are limescale deposits. These are not harmful, but must be removed on a regular basis, see page 12.

The kettle does not switch off, although the water is boiling.

- Switch the kettle off and allow it to cool.

Check whether the lid is closed and locked in. Risk of scalding from hot water vapour!

- The water temperature in the kettle is probably still higher than the temperature that you intend to set. Allow the water to continue cooling in the kettle and select a higher temperature.
