Safety warnings

Follow Instructions – All operating and maintenance instructions should be followed and warnings adhered to.

Standby - The standby button on the remote control doesn’t switch off the DVD completely and the DVD will continue to draw electricity from the mains supply. Therefore in the interests of safety and to avoid unnecessary energy consumption, never leave your DVD in standby while unattended for long periods of time, eg. overnight, while on holiday or while out of the house.

Cleaning – Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning.

Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

Accessories – Do not use accessories not recommended in this instruction book as they may be hazardous.

Water and Moisture – Hazard of electric shock - Do not use this product near water or in rainy/moist situations.

Placing or Moving – Do not place on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. A product and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart combination to overturn.

Power Cord Protection – Power cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them. Pay particular attention to plugs and the point from which the cords exit the product.

Lightning – For added protection of this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, disconnect it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges.

Overloading – Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in risk of fire or electric shock.

Objects and Liquid – Never allow objects of any kind or liquids to be pushed/spilled into this product through openings as they may come into contact with dangerous voltage or other hazards.

Servicing – Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage points or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Damage Requiring Service - Disconnect this product from the wall outlet and all power sources including batteries, and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a) When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.

b) If any liquid has been spilled onto, or objects have fallen into the product.

c) If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

d) If the product does not operate normally even if you follow the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to its normal operating condition.

e) If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.

f) When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance. This indicates a need for service.

Replacement Parts – When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts that are specified or that have the same characteristics as the original part.

Unauthorised substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.

Safety Check – Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in safe operating order.

Condensation – Moisture will form in the operating section of the player if the player is brought from cool surroundings into a warm room or if the temperature of the room rises suddenly. When this happens, the player's performance will be impaired. To prevent this, let the player stand in its new surroundings for about an hour before switching it on, or make sure that the room temperature rises gradually. Condensation may also form during the summer if the player is exposed to the breeze from an air conditioner. In such cases, change the location of the player.

IMPORTANT WARNING

A DVD player is a Class 1 laser product, however this player uses a visible laser beam which could cause hazardous radiation exposure.

Be sure to operate the player correctly as instructed.

The following caution label is located on the rear panel of the player.

When this player is plugged into the wall outlet, do not place your eyes close to the opening of the disc tray and other openings to look into the inside of this player.

Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Do not open covers and do not repair yourself. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this equipment to rain or moisture.

Disc features

Title

When two or more movies are recorded on a DVD disc, the disc is divided into two or more sections. Each section is called a “TITLE”.

Chapter

The titles can be subdivided into many sections. Each section is called a

“CHAPTER”.

Track

An Audio CD can contain several items.

These are assigned to the tracks.

Removing Disc from Case

Be sure to hold the edge of disc. Do not touch the surface of the disc.

Pick up the disc gently from the case.

• Do not scratch the disc.

• Do not get dirt on the surface of the disc.

• Do not stick a label or adhesive tape on the disc.

• Do not drop or bend the disc.

Storing Disc

Store a disc in its case to avoid risk of scratches, dirt or damage.

• Do not leave disc exposed to direct sunlight or in hot or humid places.

Cleaning Disc

Wipe the disc with a clean, dry cloth from centre to edge.

• Do not wipe the disc round.

• Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

The unit detects whether the disc loaded is a DVD disc, Audio CD, MP3

CD or Kodak Picture

Disc and automatically sets the mode.

NOTE: To prevent accidental erasure of prerecorded material, do not attempt to play

DVD-ROM,

CD-ROM, CDV, CD-G or Video CDs. This unit will only function correctly with DVD discs from

Region 2. Other

Region number discs cannot be played with this unit.

Playback features

If you press the

STOP button during playback, the DVD player will remember where the disc has stopped and will resume playback from the same spot when you press the ENTER/ button.

No audio will be heard during fast or slowmotion playback when you are playing a DVD.

Fast forward playback

Press the FWD button during normal playback.

Each press will increase the playback speed to the following factor: x2, x4, x8 and x16 (with no audio).

Press the ENTER/ button to resume normal playback.

Fast reverse playback

Press the REV button during normal playback.

Each press will reverse the playback speed to the following factor: 2X, 4X, 8X and 16X

(with no audio).

Press the ENTER/ button to resume normal playback.

Pause playback

Press the PAUSE button during normal playback to pause playback.

Press the PAUSE button again or the

ENTER/ button to resume normal playback.

Step frame advance

Press the STEP button during playback.

One frame is advanced each time you press STEP .

Press the ENTER/ button to resume normal playback.

Slow-motion playback

Press the SLOW button during normal playback.

Each press will slow the playback speed to the following factor: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and

1/16 (with no audio).

Press the ENTER/ button to resume normal playback.

Locating a chapter

Press the SKIP ( ) or SKIP ( ) buttons during playback to locate a chapter that you want to watch.

Each press of these buttons will skip a chapter.

Press the REPEAT button during playback.

Each time you press this button, the on-screen display changes as below.

Repeat playback

Some discs may not work with the repeat function.

In A-B repeat mode, subtitles near point

A or B may not appear.

During A-B Repeat

Playback the following buttons will not operate:

LANGUAGE, ANGLE,

SUBTITLE and

DISPLAY.

You may not be able to set A-B Repeat, depending on the scenes of the DVD.

A-B repeat does not work with an interactive DVD.

To resume normal playback in DVD mode, press the REPEAT button 4 times in total.

To resume normal playback in Audio CD mode, press the REPEAT button 3 times in total.

A-B repeat playback

A-B repeat playback allows you to repeat material between two selected points.

Locate playback start point

Find the desired point on your DVD or audio CD to begin repeat playback.

Press the A-B RPT button during playback.

The start point (A) is selected.

Locate playback end point

Press the A-B RPT button again to select the end point (B). Playback starts at the point that you first selected (A), stops at the end point (B) and then returns to point A automatically and starts the cycle again.

Resume normal playback

To resume normal playback press the A-B

RPT button again. The A-B on-screen display will disappear and your disc will continue to play normally.

Program playback

You can arrange the playback order of tracks on a CD or titles and chapters on a DVD by using the Program feature

(a maximum of 99 items can be programmed).

Select program

Insert a CD or DVD into your player. Make sure the disc is not playing. Press the

PROGRAM button to view the Program onscreen display.

Choose a track

In slot number 1, type in the track (CD) or title and chapter number (DVD) that you want to play first using the NUMBERED buttons.

NOTE: For numbers higher than 9, for example 14, press the +10 button followed by the 4 button.

Select track

Continue to program your selections into the slots. Press or to move between different slots or re-program a selection.

NOTE: Select NEXT and then press

ENTER/ if you want to select more than

10 program slots.

Select zoom

Press the ZOOM button continually during normal playback or slow-motion to change between 2X, 3X and 4X magnification and

1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 zoom small screen.

Press the ZOOM button again to return to the normal settings.

When you are in zoom mode, Press or to move the focus of the zoom around the screen.

Select title

Some discs may not function correctly with this feature. The instructions below are describing the basic procedures.

Procedures may vary depending on the contents of the DVD that you are playing.

Press the TITLE button during playback. Press or to select your choice, or press the NUMBERED buttons to directly choose a number.

For numbers higher than 9, for example 14, press the +10 button followed by the 4 button.

Press the ENTER/ button, playback will start.

• If you change the title, playback starts from Chapter 1 of the selected title.

Locating a specific title or time

If a DVD contains title numbers, you can locate a specific title by directly selecting a title number.

Press the GOTO button during playback.

Press the NUMBERED buttons to directly select a title. Your DVD will automatically start playing your selected title.

NOTE: Some DVD’s will have an option of selecting CHAPTER’s as well as

TITLES.

Press the GOTO button twice to select time. You can then use the NUMBERED buttons to input the exact time that you wish to go to.

Setup menu options

You must press the

STOP button twice before entering the

SETUP menu in order to access all of the features. Use the

Setup menu to change settings and preferences on your

DVD player.

Once you have selected your prefered settings, use the or buttons to select the

MAIN PAGE option.

Press ENTER/ to return to the SETUP

MENU - MAIN PAGE.

Press the button to select EXIT SETUP and then press

ENTER/ to exit.

General setup options

Press the SETUP button, GENERAL SETUP will be highlighted.

Press the ENTER/ button to select the

GENERAL SETUP page. TV DISPLAY will be highlighted.

Press followed by or to select your prefered TV DISPLAY.

Press the ENTER/ button to confirm your selection.

Press and then or to select between ANGLE MARK, OSD (on screen display) LANG, AUDIO OUT, CAPTIONS and SCREEN SAVER setup options.

Press followed by or to select your prefered options and then press the

ENTER/ button to confirm your selections.

Press to select SPEAKER SETUP.

SPEAKER SETUP page. DOWNMIX will be highlighted.

Preference setup options

Press the SETUP button, GENERAL SETUP will be highlighted.

Press to select PREFERENCE SETUP.

Press the ENTER/ button to select the

PREFERENCE PAGE. TV TYPE will be highlighted.

Press followed by or to select your prefered TV TYPE option.

Press the ENTER/ button to confirm your selection.

Press and then to select AUDIO,

SUBTITLE,and DISC MENU language options as well as DEFAULT (see below for further information regarding the PARENTAL and PASSWORD options).

Press followed by or to select your prefered options and then press the

ENTER/ button to confirm your selections.

You can use parental lock only with DVDs that are equipped with the parental lock feature.

Parental Lock Menu

DVDs equipped with the parental lock function are rated according to their content. The contents allowed by a parental lock level and the way a DVD can be controlled may vary from disc to disc. For example, if the disc allows, you can edit out violent scenes unsuitable for children and replace them with more suitable scenes, or lock out playback of the disc altogether.

Parental Lock menu

In the PREFERENCE page (see step 4 above), press to select PARENTAL, followed by to select the different parental levels.

Press or to select the level that you wish to set.

Press the ENTER/ button to confirm your setting. You will now be asked to type in the 4 digit password using the NUMBERED buttons (The preset password is 3308) and press the ENTER/ button to confirm.

Press the SETUP button to exit.

Changing the password

If after setting the parental level you want to change the password, access the

PASSWORD menu and press to highlight CHANGE.

Press the ENTER/ button to confirm.

You will now be asked to type in your old password and then your new password twice using the numbered buttons.

Press the ENTER/ button to confirm your new password.

Press the SETUP button to quickly exit all of the menus.

Subtitles/Main Menu

Depending on the

DVD, you may not be able to turn the subtitles off or on even if they are recorded on it. You may also not be able to change the subtitles even if multilingual subtitles are recorded on it.

While playing the

DVD, the subtitle may change when you open or close the disc tray or change the title.

In some cases, the subtitle language is not changed to the selected one immediately.

If the Disc you are playing does not have subtitle options, you will not be able to access the subtitle menu.

Changing subtitle language is cancelled when you open the disc tray or turn the power off.

Changing subtitle language

Press SUB-T continuously during playback to switch between all of the available subtitle languages that are on the disc.

The sub-title display will appear on-screen.

Press SUB-T until SUBTITLE OFF appears on-screen to turn off subtitles.

Accessing the Main Menu

Some DVDs allow you to select the main menu during playback.

This allows you to change settings while the DVD is paused.

Accessing the main menu

Press the MENU button during playback.

The DVD’s main menu will appear. Press or to navigate around the main menu of your disc and change any settings.

Locate PLAY (or similar wording) and press the ENTER/ button to resume playing the disc from where you left it.

Changing angles

Press ANGLE during playback.

Each time you press ANGLE the angle will change.

NOTE: The angle function will not work on

DVD’s that do not contain recorded multiple angles.

DVD angles/Audio Settings

When playing back a disc recorded with multi-angle facility, you can change the angle that you are viewing the scene from.

NOTE: Depending on the DVD, you may not be able to change the angles even if multi-angles have been recorded.

Playback Audio Settings

This DVD player allows you to select a prefered language and sound recording system from those included on the DVD that you are playing. If your DVD is only recorded in one language, the audio function will not work.

Changing Audio Settings

Press the AUDIO button during playback.

Each time you press AUDIO the language will change.

NOTE: The DVD player returns to the initial default settings when it is turned on or when you replace a disc.

Playing MP3 discs

MP3 refers to music files available for playback over the internet. MP3 files can then be put onto a CD disc and played on your DVD player.

You will need to view the MP3 menu on your TV to play your MP3 files.

Load your MP3 CD

Load your MP3 CD into the disc tray.

The MP3 menu will appear onscreen and the first track will start to play.

Changing tracks

Press or to select the folder or track that you wish to play.

Press the ENTER/ button to play your selected folder or track.

Select Folder options

Press or to select the FOLDER onscreen option.

Press or to choose between FOLDER

(normal playback), REPEAT ONE (track),

Each continual press will advance or reverse in 2X, 4X, 8X and 16X normal speed.

The automated slide show is launched on screen.

Press the STOP button to stop the slideshow. The menu will appear.

Press the ENTER/ button to continue the slideshow.

Press SKIP ( ) or SKIP ( ) buttons to view the previous or next photo.

Press the PAUSE button to keep a selected photo on screen indefinitely.

Press the PAUSE button again to resume the slideshow.

When a Kodak

Picture CD is inserted, an automated slide slow is launched.

Each picture in the current directory will be displayed consecutively in the slide show.

You can view JPEG files that have been burnt onto a CD-R disc on your TV screen in the same way as you can view your Kodak picture CDs.

Transition modes determine how the current photo will disappear from your screen. You can set transition modes at any stage during the slideshow.

Repeating your slideshow

Press the MENU button to display thumbnail pictures in playback mode. Up to twelve scaled down pictures will be displayed on the screen.

Press the SKIP ( ) or SKIP ( ) buttons to display the next or previous twelve pictures in the current directory.

Press or to select an option and then press the ENTER/ button to continue.

Zooming your picture

Press the ZOOM button. Zoom 100% will appear on the screen.

Press the REV or FWD buttons to increase or decrease zoom size between

50% and 200% of the original.

Press or to pan around the screen if you are viewing above 100% normal picture mode.

Press the ENTER/ button to continue the slideshow.

Connecting to an amplifier

Please note that all connections must be made with the power disconnected.

If you want to connect your DVD player to an amplifier you have a choice of connections depending on what type of connectors you have on the back of your particular amplifier.

Follow steps 1 and 2 below to help you make the right connections:

STEP 1 - DVD to TV connections

First make sure your DVD player is connected to your TV using either a SCART lead (not supplied) (this is the recommended connection) or an AV lead as illustrated below:

STEP 2 – DVD to amplifier connections

Once you have connected your DVD player to your TV (as instructed above) connect your DVD to an amplifier using either of the two options illustrated below:

First choice is by coaxial digital cable (1) (not supplied) – connect one end to the coaxial digital audio output on your

DVD player and the other end to the coaxial digital audio input on your amplifier.

Second choice is with two phono leads (2) (not supplied) – connect one of the leads to right audio RCA socket on your

DVD player and the other end to an audio right socket on your amplifier. Connect the other lead to left RCA socket on your DVD player and an audio left socket on your amplifier.

Troubleshooting

Use the following check list for troubleshooting if you have any problems with your unit. Consult your local dealer or service outlet if problems persist. Be sure all connections are properly made when using with other units.

Problem

No power.

Playback doesn’t start.

No picture.

No sound.

Solution

AC power cord is unplugged.

• No disc is inserted.

• The disc may be dirty. Clean the disc.

• The unit cannot play CD-ROMs, etc.

• Check the unit is connected correctly.

• The video input selector of the TV is not set to VIDEO. Set to VIDEO

(or equivalent).

• Check the unit is connected correctly.

• Check the input selector of the amplifier is set properly.

• Check Audio Output setting.

The picture will be distorted occasionally, check and clean the disc.

Some discs can not perform some of these functions.

Picture is distorted during fast forward/reverse playback.

Stopping playback, search, slow-motion play, repeat play, or program play, etc. cannot be performed.

No 4:3 (16:9) picture.

No on-screen display.

The remote control does not function.

The unit or remote operation key is not functioning.

Playback does not start when the title is selected.

Audio soundtrack and/or subtitle language is not changed when you play back a DVD.

No subtitle.

Angle cannot be changed.

“ ” appears on the screen.

“ ” appears on the screen.

The DVD has ‘locked up’.

The TV ASPECT does not match your TV.

Select ON SCREEN DISPLAY ON.

• Aim the remote control at the remote sensor on the front of the unit.

• Operate within approx. 5 metres or reduce the light in the room.

• Clear the path of the beam.

• The batteries are weak. Replace the batteries.

• Check the batteries are inserted correctly.

Turn off the unit and unplug the AC power cord for several minutes, then replug it.

Check the PARENTAL CONTROL setup.

Multilingual language is not recorded on the DVD disc.

• Some discs have no subtitles.

• Subtitles are cleared. Press SUB-T.

Multi-angles are not recorded on the DVD disc.

The function is prohibited with the unit.

The function is prohibited with the disc.

In common with all other microprocessor based digital equipment, this product has the potential to lockup under certain conditions. If this occurs the unit should be disconnected from the mains for 30 seconds. This will restore normal operation. This is not a fault.
