SE-1000

HD/SD Digital Video Switcher

The SE-1000 is a compact, portable SDI switcher that does all processing in HD, accepts either HD or SD and is supported by a family of collateral products, including monitors, distribution amplifiers, tally lights and intercoms.

It’s a great switcher for small production companies, churches, vans and corporate production departments. The SE-1000 supports live production with 5 video inputs, one computer input and one still frame loaded via computer or via live capture and it has three outputs. The switcher includes six built-in format converters that will let you see your inputs on inexpensive SD monitors. The converters may also be used to change the format of the output to analog composite or component. The SE-1000 KIT includes these monitors and a holder.

Each input includes built-in frame syncs for flicker-free switching, which means no external genlock is needed (but still available via reference input). The switcher also performs luminance keys for easy titling or logo insertion, and may be used with an external character generator that has a downstream keyer (such as our CG-100).

SE-1000

Q: Does the SE-1000 work in PAL and NTSC?

A: Yes, it can be configured to work in both NTSC or PAL formats but not at the same time.

Q: How much processing delay does the SE-1000 have?

A: There is less than one frame delay in processing.

Q: Does the SE-1000 have a PiP feature?

Q: Can I use the built-in converters to change the output?

A: No.

A: Yes, the internal converters can be used to convert the SDI or HD-

SDI signals to component or composite video.

Q: Can I connect my own tally lights directly to the SE-1000?

A: Use the TB-10 tally box (see accessories below), it provides enough current to activate the LED’s.

Q: How do I show my Powerpoint presentation?

A: The onboard DVI input will accept a computer source so that you can switch to it like any other input source.

Q: What are my options for converting the SDI or HD-SDI into DV or HDV so I can edit it in my PC?

A: The best choice for capturing SDI or HD-SDI would be to install a

Decklink HD Extreme card ( www.blackmagic-design.com/products/hd/ ) into your computer so that you can capture SDI/HD-SDI quality instead of DV. Once the video has been captured into your NLE you can then down convert to any requested signal type. A second choice would be to use the internal converter in the SE-1000 and connect the output to a component or composite video converter.

Outputs include DV, SDI, composite, component and S-video. Each input has a frame synchronizer and TBC. Preview functions include a YUV/composite multi-image output with “next source” and “next effect” so you can see how it looks before your audience does. The SE-900 caters to the DV and SDI formats by including an audio delay for DV and an optional audio embedder for the SDI stream. You can also create chromakeys with the

SE-900’s built-in dual-channel chromakey, which includes 2 virtual set CDs.

The SE-900 is sold as a standalone 2-piece switcher, as a kit with monitors and monitor rack, or as part of mobile studio packages (see page 20), all available preconfigured for different inputs.

SE-900 FAQs

Q: How many inputs does the SE-900 accept?

Q: Can I mix SDI video with analog video?

A: Up to eight input boards can be installed in the SE-900 switcher.

A: SE-900 can switch between any of the available input signal types.

Q: Can I set up a multi-camera chromakey with the SE-900?

Q: How much processing delay does the SE-900 have?

A: Yes, the switcher has four independent presets which can be configured to key separate input sources, backgrounds and key colors.

A: It depends on the incoming signal. For DV, the cameras themselves have around a 3 to 5 frame delay (depending on manufacturer). The

SE-900 itself has a 3 frame delay when processing DV, so in total, you will have a 6-8 frame (or 1/5 to 1/4 of a second) delay. If mixing analog and/or SDI, the delay is only one frame, total.

Q: How far can the control panel be from the processor?

A: Without additional power, the control panel can be up to 10 meters away. With the included power adapter, the control panel can be up to 20 meters from the main unit.
