OVERVIEW
There are two logic card slots on an Oasis-08 console (shown in the illustration, bottom). Oasis-12
consoles have a third logic card slot. The logic card slots are narrower than the audio card slots. Logic
I-O cards are included (and installed) on the Analog-only Oassis consoles,
but are optional components on the standard Oasis consoles.
COMBICON PLUGS:
; . ; SOLDERLESS, NO CRIMP
Each Logic I-O card has four 10-terminal Combicon connectors, one for each CONNECTIONS
of the four fader channels connected to that slot. The right-most logic card
slot (as seen from the console rear) has the logic card for channels 1 - 4.The
next logic card slot (middle logic slot on an Oasis-12) has the logic card for
channels 5 - 8.The third logic card slot has the logic card for channels 9 - 12.
CARD INSTALLATION (Analog-only consoles have the cards installed)
Insert the Logic I-O card into the appropriate logic card slot for faders 1 - 4, faders 5 - 8, or for faders
9 - 12. Logic I-O cards are optional on standard consoles, so all logic card slots may not have a Logic
I-O card installed. Logic I-O cards are hot-swappable, so power can be applied to the console while
plugging or unplugging a card. Slide the card into the card guides, firmly seating the card into its
motherboard connector. To complete the installation, fasten the card using the #2 Phillips screw from
the installation kit, which also includes the four Combicon plugs for that card.
CARD CONFIGURATION
See the detail view of DS1 (left, below), an 8-position switch. These switches simplify wiring up a remote
mic control or other button control panel. The odd numbered switches, when set On, jumper terminal 1
(Input Enable) to terminal 10 (+5 volts) to enable the four logic inputs. The even numbered switches,
when set On, jumper terminal 6 (Tally common) to terminal 10 (+5 volts) to supply voltage to the panel
switch LEDs. To maintain isolated operation with active devices like CD players and digital playback
systems, set both DS1 switches to Off, and do not use terminals 9 and 10.Voltage and ground are both
sourced from the active device.
The four logic inputs (see the simplified Logic Circuit diagram, below) are activated by being pulled low
(the Input Enable terminal must be pulled-up, by a voltage from the active device or by +5 vdc). The
two logic outputs (terminals 7 and 8) are fully isolated “dry contact” style closures, using a common
return path on terminal 6. These can be configured as tallies or as pulsed outputs.
Refer to the Oasis User Manual (PDF document 75-58) for details on connecting wiring to the Combicon
plugs and on using the Oasis Control Center app to configure the logic inputs and outputs for use with
mic control panels and with active devices.

OASIS AUDIO INPUT CARDS
(MIC PREAMP, ANALOG INPUT)
Quick Setup Guide
OVERVIEW
Oasis consoles have hot-pluggable audio input cards that feed the A and B sources for each of four
faders. The Oasis-08 has two audio card slots: the right-most slot (rear view, shown below) holds the
audio card for fader channels 1 - 4. The other audio card slot is for fader channels 5 - 8. The Oasis-12
adds a third audio card slot for fader channels 9 - 12. Between the audio input card slots are the
narrower Logic I-O card slots.
Each audio input card has eight audio inputs. Each input is assigned, in the Oasis Control Center app
(the OCC app), as either the A or B source for the four fader channels connected to that card. The OCC
app is where the input gain trim, room muting, and other input signal configuration parameters are set.
Refer to the Oasis User Manual (Harris PDF doc # 75-58) for details on using the OCC app and the
various parameter settings that are available; information on connecting unbalanced devices; audio
card specifications; and audio card service information. |
CARD SETUP SWITCHES
The Mic Preamp card is the only audio card with user setup switches. Four switches (1 - 4) apply
phantom power (+48 VDC) to any of the four Mic Inputs (1 - 4). To power a condenser mic, set that
input's switch to On. For a dynamic mic, leave that input's switch set to Off.
CARD INSTALLATION (Analog-only consoles have the cards installed)
Insert an audio input card into each audio card slot. The cards are hot-swappable, so power can be
applied to the console while plugging or unplugging the cards. Typically, a Mic Preamp card is
used with faders 1 - 4, while an Analog input card is inserted into the other audio slots. Once the card
is inserted into its motherboard connector, fasten the card in place using the #2 Phillips screw included
in the installation kit (which also has the Combicon plugs for that card).
CARD CONNECTIONS
3-terminal Combicon plugs are used for mic inputs and for AES signals. co Gs:
6-terminal Combicon plugs are used for all line-level analog wiring. SOLDERLESS, NO CRIMP
Wiring orientation is shown below, left. CONNECTIONS
Audio inputs are designed for balanced audio signals. The individual
wires on each cable plug into green Combicon plugs that plug into
mating connectors on each card. Wiring from 24 to 16 AWG
(0.2 - 1.5 mm?), can be used in the Combicon plugs. Strip the cable
3/8” (10 mm). To ease plugging in the wires, hold the Combicon plug using
a small table vise or C-clamp.To connect a wire: Press the orange tab using
a small flat blade screwdriver (like a“greenie”); Insert the wire into the round hole in front of the orange
tab; Release the tab to lock the wire in place. Once all of the signal wires are connected, the Combicon
plug is plugged into the mating connector on the audio card.
Note that the Mic Preamp card has four mono mic-level inputs (labeled MIC 1 - 4) and four stereo line-
level inputs (labeled LINE INPUT 1 - 4). The Analog card has two line-level inputs for each fader channel
(labeled 1 - 2). Each pair of inputs is associated with one fader channel (labeled as CH1 - CH4).

Prepare your countertop for the Oasis console
The Oasis console is typically set 6 to 12 inches back from the front edge of the countertop.
All wiring plugs into cards along the console's rear. These are hidden by a removable flip-up
cover. To route wiring from below the countertop, we recommend cutting a 3/4" wide Cable
Access Slot. Use a drill and a router, jigsaw, or other similar tool to cut the slot. Note the cutout
slot dimensions, listed below, for each size Oasis console.

Wire gauges from 24 to 16 AWG
(0.2 - 1.5 mm?) work with these plugs.
Four sizes of Combicon plugs are
used on the Oasis console:

Position the Oasis on the countertop
Set the Oasis console onto the countertop so its rear cover hides the
Cable Access Slot. To ease wiring, remove the rear cover by opening
it up, and backing out the #1 Phillips screw in the left hinge, until
the cover can be lifted up and removed off the right hinge. The
screw remains in the threaded insert, but be sure to retain the two
white plastic bushings (one on each hinge) for reuse when the cover
is reinstalled after wiring is complete.
The Oasis can also be fastened to the countertop, if desired. Refer
to the Oasis User Manual (Harris PDF Doc 75-58) for instructions.
. Prepare the audio and logic wiring
Audio and logic wiring terminates into Phoenix Combicon plugs.
Each type of signal (microphone, stereo analog, monitor output,
fader channel logic, and monitor logic) is on a separate plug to
make installation and future wiring changes easy and non-intrusive.
We recommend using a small table-top vise to hold the Phoenix
Combicon plugs while they are wired. The Home Depot model
69997 tabletop vise (about $17.00 USD) is shown in the photo.
Prepare the audio and logic cables for termination by stripping the
cable jacket back 1 1/2” (37mm), then strip each wire 3/8” (10 mm).
If shielded audio wiring is used, cover the shield wire with clear
plastic tubing. Use heat shrink tubing to cover the cut jacket end
and to hold the clear tubing in place, as shown below.

Combicon plugs have 3, 6, 10, or 12 terminals (each terminal has
an orange tab and a round hole for the wire). Press the orange tab
with a small flatblade screwdriver (like a greenie) to open the wire
latch. Insert the stripped wire into the round hole. Releasing the
orange tab locks the wire into the plug. A slight tug on the wire
will confirm it's properly locked into the plug.
Wiring diagrams for each size of Combicon plug are on the Oasis

Plug in the Wiring
Plug the pre-wired Combicon plugs into the appropriate connectors on the console. The right-
most card (as viewed from the rear) is a Mic Preamp card for channel faders 1 - 4. It has four
microphone inputs and four stereo line inputs. The other audio card (or two audio cards for a
12-channel console) have two stereo Line Inputs for every channel fader. In between the audio
cards are Logic I-O cards, with one Logic connector per channel fader. The Main card has the
Program bus outputs (both analog and digital), the Telco connectors, the External Monitor
inputs, and the Control Room and Studio connectors (monitor outputs and logic |-О).

from 100 - 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz AC. The supply outputs 12 VDC.
The DC output cord plugs into a mating connector on the Oasis
Main card. À cable clamp is supplied for this cord. It is fastened
to the Main card mounting screw directly in front of the power
connector. Remove the screw and cable clamp using a #1 Phillips
screwdriver. Place the cord through the clamp, then refasten the
clamp to strain relief the DC cord, as shown in the photo.
Since the Oasis console is designed for 24 / 7 operation, there is
no power switch. For proper operation, keep the DC cord plugged
into the Main card connector at all times. To power the console
down, only unplug the AC cord from the AC mains outlet.

| Customize your console using the Oasis Control Center
~The Oasis console is pre-configured, so many installations may not need to use the Oasis Control
Center app to change any of the console's configurations. The default settings that are used are
listed on the back side of the Console's Quick Guide (Harris doc 71-1500-1). These basic settings
are changed by using the Oasis Control Center app (see page 1 of this doc for the two Harris
websites where the software can be downloaded). The Oasis Control Center is typically installed
on a laptop running Windows XP (SP3), Vista, or Windows 7. A USB Host cable (not supplied) is
connected between the computer and the USB host port on the Oasis Main card, as shown in the
photo in step 5, above.
With the USB cable connected
from the console to the laptop,
start the Oasis Control Center.
The app opens to the Oasis E o NE
Information screen which shows E TA
the console's serial number, and ET
a “Connected” message at the Ea
bottom, to indicate the USB
connection is good. Click on the
other Tabs along the top (Inputs
