This Support Note describes how to create and use non-English audio files with Trimble Survey
Controller™ version 10.00 and later.
Description
The English language pack distributed with Trimble Survey Controller version 10.00 and later includes a number of audio (*.wav) files that are automatically played when the system is in
English. There are no translated versions of these available, but you can easily make and use your own.
Solution
This procedure explains how to create new audio files on the TSCe controller, but you can also do this on a PC. Save the new audio files with the appropriate name and store them in the appropriate directory on the TSCe. Trimble Survey Controller will do the rest.
Note: To ensure that the correct non-English language folders are created, first install the language pack. (For details, refer to the Trimble Survey Controller Release Notes.) Then save the audio files that you create into that language folder.
To create audio files on a TSCe:
1. Press +
E
to open the Windows CE Start menu
Note - You can improve the quality of the audio files but this increases their size. The default playback quality is satisfactory for the intended purpose.
3. Change the default file location to:
Disk\Program Files\Survey Controller\Languages\English

The files are named according to date and time. For example, the file 020723-192635.wav was created on 23 July, 2002 at 1900 hours, 26 minutes and 35 seconds. The files must have this correct naming convention and the prefix of each file must match the prefix for its language. For example, the message “Initialization has been gained” in a Spanish system must be named Esp_initgained.wav.
The language prefixes are:
English: Eng_
German: Deu_
Spanish: Esp_
French: Fra_
Portuguese: Por_
Simplified Chinese: SCh_
Korean: Kor_
Japanese: Jap_
5. Navigate to Disk\Program Files\Survey Controller\Languages\English
6. Rename the files as required. See the list of
supported messages and file names at the end of
this document.
Transferring the files
You can use the Trimble Data Transfer utility or Microsoft ActiveSync to transfer the audio files.
For more information, refer to the Data Transfer or Microsoft ActiveSync Help.
Additional information
The audio files are played automatically by the Trimble Survey Controller system. You can not configure where they are played or add any additional messages.
To configure the system to play audio files, select Configuration \ Controller \ Sound events.
To configure the language, select Configuration \ Controller \ Language.
To delete a message, delete the corresponding audio file.
