What is the High Accuracy GIS Option?
The High Accuracy GIS option for Trimble
®
Survey Controller™ allows the linking of images transferred by WiFi-capable cameras to surveyed points. This data can then be exported to GIS applications.
The High Accuracy GIS option is a chargeable upgrade option for Trimble Survey Controller.
How do I enable the High Accuracy GIS Option?
In Survey Controller, go into the Configuration menu and select Options . Tap on the Upgrade softkey and enter the 16-character High Accuracy GIS option key.
How do I set up the WiFi connection between the camera and controller?
To establish a WiFi connection between camera and controller, Trimble recommends the use of
TrimPix™ technology.
What is TrimPix technology?
TrimPix™ technology enables selected Trimble handhelds running Microsoft
®
Windows Mobile
®
5.0 software to connect to a range of WiFi-capable Nikon COOLPIX digital cameras. Using your handheld’s built-in wireless LAN radio; you can connect to the digital camera and receive a high-resolution photo in seconds.

How do I get TrimPix?
TrimPix can be downloaded from the Trimble website. From the home page select Products and
Solutions then Product A-Z List . Select the T hyperlink and then scroll down until you see TrimPix™ technology . Alternatively click on the following link: http://www.trimble.com/support_trl.asp?Nav=Collection-44863
From the TrimPix Technology page use the Download link to obtain the latest install of TrimPix. Also available on this page are links to user manuals, support notes and support FAQs.
What Cameras will work with TrimPix technology?
Trimble handhelds running TrimPix technology can be used with selected WiFi-capable Nikon
COOLPIX digital cameras. The following camera models are currently supported:
Nikon COOLPIX P1
Nikon COOLPIX P2
Nikon COOLPIX P3 http://surveypartners.trimble.com Page 2
Nikon COOLPIX S6
Nikon COOLPIX S7c
How do I connect the camera using TrimPix technology?
After installing TrimPix on your PC and controller, you need to run TrimPix on your PC with the camera and controller connected. This will create WiFi connection profiles on both the camera and controller.
For detailed instructions on installing and using TrimPix, please refer to the TrimPix technology Getting
Started Guide ( http://trl.trimble.com/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-
380410/TrimPix_100C_GSG_ENG.pdf
).
To connect the camera to the controller:
1.
On the controller, go into Wireless Manager, enable WiFi and make sure the correct profile is selected for the camera
2.
Also on the controller, go into Settings, Connections and make sure TrimPix status is set to
Running . If it is not running tap the Start key. If you now close the TrimPix dialog TrimPix will continue running.
3.
Now turn on the camera, set it to Wireless Mode and select the correct profile for your controller.
After a few seconds the Wireless Menu will appear. Select Shoot & Transfer and select OK . After a few more seconds the camera will connect. Now when you take a photo it will be transferred to the
My Pictures folder on the controller.
Will other WiFi-capable cameras work with the High Accuracy GIS option?
Only the Nikon COOLPIX cameras listed above will work with TrimPix. The Ricoh Caplio 500SE-W camera will connect to a controller, but in order to transfer the images an FTP application must be installed on the controller. For more information please see the Mapping and GIS support note: Trimble
Handhelds Running Windows Mobile Version 5.0 Software: Connecting a Ricoh Caplio 500SE-W
Camera .
It may be possible to connect other WiFi-capable cameras to the controller, however only the cameras mentioned above have been tested.
Do I need a WiFi-capable camera to use the High Accuracy GIS Option?
No. If your camera stores images to a Compact flash or SD card, you can capture the image on the card, then insert the card into the controller and then link the images to the points. However to get the full benefit of being able to capture images and link them to points as they are measured, Trimble recommends that you use a WiFi capable camera.
Is the High Accuracy GIS Option available on the TCU controller?
The High Accuracy GIS Option is available for Trimble Survey Controller on the Trimble TCU controller. However due to the absence of WiFi technology on the TCU controller, wireless connection to digital cameras via TrimPix is unavailable. Images can still be imported to the controller using the
USB cable (P/N 73841019) included with a TCU controller. This allows connection to a USB stick or a
CF card reader. http://surveypartners.trimble.com Page 3
