System Requirements
System Requirements
Graco strongly recommends that the end user’s IT
(Information Technology) representative be involved in the following Matrix installation activities:
• Assist with the selection and/or purchase of the
Matrix PC. The PC must meet the performance
specifications listed on pages 3 and 4.
• If the Matrix PC will be connected to a Network with other PC’s, the IT representative should be contacted to properly configure the PC before loading the Matrix software.
• After the PC is purchased with the recommended software (i.e., Microsoft XP, Anti-virus software,
Internet Explorer, etc.), the IT representative should assist in configuring software settings listed in this manual.
• The IT representative should be present during
Matrix software loading on the day of Matrix installation.
Computer Requirements
Matrix software is PC based. Matrix software is not compatible with Apple computers and is not available for
Apple operating systems.
Graco recommends using a dedicated PC to run Matrix.
If the system is to run in a networked configuration, contact your Information Technology (IT) representative to properly configure the PC before loading the program. If you have any other concerns about the PC requirements, contact your IT representative. The following are minimum computer requirements:
• Pentium III, 500 MHz processor.
• Internet Explorer 5.5 or better. Matrix will not operate on Netscape browser.
• 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution.
• 128 MB (Megabytes) of RAM (Random Access
Memory) with 500 MB to 1 GB of PC hard drive
(C:drive) disk space for data storage.
• Matrix software is supplied on a CD ROM that automatically installs program files to the computer’s hard disk (C:drive). The PC should be equipped with either a CD-ROM R/W or DVD-ROM R/W drive to facilitate installing Matrix software to the PC, and as a means of storing ongoing Matrix data.
• Matrix software requires Microsoft’s XP Home or XP
Professional operating system software. Prior to loading Matrix software, please verify that all
Microsoft XP upgrades are loaded to the Matrix PC.
Matrix will not operate on other operating systems.
The Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) feature in the
XP Operating System should be enabled.
• Use a third party Anti-Virus software (i.e., Norton,
McAfee, F-Prot Anti-Virus software). Anti-virus protection can be programmed to run automatically on a scheduled basis. Graco recommends daily updates.
• Pop up blockers must be uninstalled or disabled.
Matrix uses pop ups during normal operation. If this is not done the browser window shows, but the
Matrix application won’t appear.
• The PC should be equipped with an open serial port
(RS232) and/or USB connection. A USB configured
PC (no serial port available) will require a USB to serial port converter. The converter selected is based on the number of transceivers used in the system. Graco recommends Edgeport converters
(models: Edgeport/1, Edgeport/4, or Edgeport/8).
Convertors can be purchased on-line from B & B
Electronics Manufacturing Company
(www.bb-elec.com). Each model comes with a 3.3 ft
(1 m) cable.
• An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is required in all Matrix systems and is available from Graco
(part no. 119425). This power supply provides continuous battery power to the PC during power interruption and safely shuts down the PC, securing your
Matrix software and preventing data corruption. Be sure the PC and monitor are plugged into the battery back-up side of the UPS during installation.
• If the Matrix e-mail feature is to be used, Graco requires the use of an “always on” internet connection. The internet connection must remain on when the e-mail feature is used.
309504B 3
System Requirements
• If the Parts Room Authorization feature of Matrix is used, the PC should be equipped with a sound board allowing an audible signal to be heard at the
PC when a request for dispense authorization is received.
XP Security Requirements
By default, Windows XP does not activate many security related functions upon installation.
The following are recommended security configuration settings for Matrix:
• Be sure a username and password are required to gain access to the operating system.
• Ensure the password protected screensaver is enabled and set to automatically activate after 15-30 minutes of system inactivity.
• Change user password on a regular basis and choose passwords that are difficult to guess.
• Install a third party anti-virus application such as
Norton, McAfee, or F-Prot. Anti-virus products can be automatically updated on a scheduled basis.
Graco recommends daily updates.
• On an ongoing basis, be sure the system is always up-to-date with Microsoft XP updates and service patches.
• Enable the internet connection firewall (ICF) in Windows XP.
Uninstalling Matrix on Windows XP
Follow this procedure to remove Matrix software and data files stored on your computer. You will lose all
Matrix system parameters and all Matrix dispense history using these procedures unless you first use the
Matrix Reporter feature to make a back-up of the database by exporting it to a *.sql file.
• You must have Windows XP administrator privileges in order to add or remove Matrix from the computer.
• Any files you have created with Matrix since it was originally installed, such as database export files and reports, will not be removed by the uninstall program. If you wish to also remove these from your hard drive, you will have to manually do so using
Windows Explorer after the uninstall program completes.
Removing Matrix Software and Data Files
1.
Choose Start/Control Panel from the Windows Start menu.
2.
In Control Panel, double-click on “Add or Remove
Programs.”
3.
Scroll to “Matrix” in the program listing and click it once to highlight it.

6.
Click “Yes” in the window that asks you to confirm your selection.
7.
The uninstall program runs.
8.
Click the “Finish” button.
You may or may not be prompted to reboot upon completion of the uninstall process. It is recommended that you reboot in all cases to complete the un-installation process.

The following procedure will install the Matrix Software.
IMPORTANT : You may not make copies of Matrix
Software for use on other PCs or for personal use.
Please read the license agreement as the software loads.
Loading the Software
Before installing the Matrix software, verify that the default browser is Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer. Matrix will not operate on Netscape browser.
You must have Windows XP administrator privileges in order to add or remove Matrix from the computer.

Software Install Troubleshooting
Installation software troubleshooting can be found in the
“Readme” file on the Matrix software CD if required.
There are two conditions during the startup where an error message can pop up. One is when Matrix cannot connect to the database server and the other is if it can-
not connect to the internal web server. See F IG . 6. Refer
to the “Readme” file to resolve this condition.

Some computers may not have serial ports. A
USB converter will be required to obtain serial ports. Graco recommends Edgeport models from B & B Electronics.
If you attempt to add a Transceiver and the PC has no COM ports available, an error message appears. Contact your IT professional or add serial ports using the USB convertors recom-
mended by Graco. See page 3 for additional
information.

After the obround or cylindrical tank setup information has been completed, it may be necessary to modify the tank manufacture’s published gal/liter capacity that was entered in F IG . 20. (In some cases the actual volume of the tank may exceed the manufacture’s published capacity.) To verify this, once the TLM has been programmed:
1.
Stand the TLM upright on a flat smooth surface, press the blue button and record the volume. The volume shown on the PC tank setting screen should match the volume initially entered. If it does nothing further needs to be done.
2.
If the reading does not match, modify the tank capacity in F IG . 20 to match the TLM reading taken on the flat smooth surface.
