The Orion USB to Serial Adapter provides a useful virtual COM port to Laptops or computers that do not have a COM port available, thus allowing telescope control via software such as Starry Night to be used.

Adding a virtual COM port gives the following benefits.

• Slewing Go-To telescopes to targets using planetarium software rather than using the hand controller.

• Updating firmware of Go-To hand controllers.

• Guiding using camera/mount without dedicated ST4 guide port (pulse guiding) using software such as PHD Guiding.

NOTE: In order to connect the USB to Serial Adapter to a telescope Go-To mount, a serial cable should also be used. The serial cable should be connected to the USB to Serial Adapter and also to the bottom of the hand controller (Synscan controllers without a built-in USB port.)

Please note, a software driver is REQUIRED for this adapter to properly work.

1. Go to www.telescope.com/usb-to-serial/ to download and install the proper driver for your system.

2. Once the driver is installed, plug the USB end of this adapter into your computer and it will self-install.

3. If you are unsure of what Com port the computer assigned to this adapter, go to the Device Manager (Windows) and find the

USB to Serial Adapter in the list under Ports. It will display the current com port that the adapter is emulating.

One-Year Limited Warranty

This Orion product is warranted against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. This warranty is for the benefit of the original retail purchaser only. During this warranty period Orion

Telescopes & Binoculars will repair or replace, at Orion’s option, any warranted instrument that proves to be defective, provided it is returned postage paid. Proof of purchase (such as a copy of the original receipt) is required. This warranty is only valid in the country of purchase.

This warranty does not apply if, in Orion’s judgment, the instrument has been abused, mishandled, or modified, nor does it apply to normal wear and tear. This warranty gives you specific legal rights. It is not intended to remove or restrict your other legal rights under applicable local consumer law; your state or national statutory consumer rights governing the sale of consumer goods remain fully applicable.
