Direct Device Communication
Overview
When you start commissioning of a system, the controller may not be present. The Direct Device
Connection function allows you to connect directly to the island for creating or modifying your island configuration during this situation. After the controller is present the Direct Device Configuration function should not be used anymore for managing your islands but only for diagnostic purposes.
NOTE: It is strongly recommended to use the Direct Device Configuration function for configuration tasks only in the commissioning phase when the controller is not yet present.
The figure below illustrates the differences between normal connection via the controller (shown in item 3 the upper part of the figure) and direct device connection (in the lower part of the figure):

Labeling Objects
Introduction
The Advantys Configuration Software allows you to assign meaningful names to I/O data objects in your configuration, so-called user defined labels. For this purpose the Advantys Configuration
Software should be launched from the DTM.
The user defined labels can be assigned inside the Advantys Configuration Software:
In the Parameters tab of a module if the data object is a module parameter.
In the I/O Image tab of a module if the data object is an I/O data object.
In the Label Editor of the Advantys Configuration Software
The names for the selected data objects are displayed in the I/O Image Overview and the I/O
Image Animation dialog boxes and in the Module Editor. The labels will also be provided as I/O data in the exposed I/O configuration. For a detailed description how to assign user defined labels to Advantys I/O data objects refer to the Advantys Configuration Software User Manual.
NOTE: If any extended character is present in the labels, the character is replaced by letter x. For example, the characters such as ä, Ü, à, and so on, are replaced by the character x.
Using I/O Labels With a Schneider Software Tool
After naming the definition of user defined labels for Advantys I/O data objects, the DTM for STB on Modbus TCP provides these user defined labels as symbolic variable names to the Schneider software tool.
The following table describes how user defined labels will be displayed inside the Schneider software tool depending on the data object level:
Definition of User Defined Label in the Advantys DTM
No user label defined
Representation of Data Object Inside Schneider software tool
User defined label at Byte level
All I/O data objects will be displayed as variables from type Byte with default symbolic names.
The I/O data objects will be displayed as variables from type Byte with symbolic names based on the entered user defined label.
User defined label only at Bit level The I/O data objects will be displayed as variables from type Bit with symbolic names based on the entered user defined label.
NOTE: The definition of user defined labels at Byte level and Bit level for the same I/O data object is possible. In this case the I/O data object is displayed as variable from type Byte with symbolic name based on the entered user defined label at Byte level.
