The main enhancements to the TXT L MDD V52 software in relation to TXT L MDD
V4 are as follows :
• Automatic reading of symbol tables relating to each program module and macromodule, in the station symbol database.
• The "replace multiple objects” function for function blocks has been extended : timer, monostable, up/down counter, register, text, control.
This new function also enables :
- the relocation of remote I/O and of associated bit objects and words
- the relocation of a set of labels
- the renumbering of an OFB and the associated bit objects and words.
• Enhanced command file (.M5M) which enables program modules and macro-modules to be integrated automatically into the PL7-3 application of the station.
• Program module code can be write-protected.
• A macro-module can be represented graphically by an associated "icon".
• Management of the documentation dossier of program modules and macro-modules.
• Program modules and macro-modules can be updated automatically in the station.
• Automatic recognition of the OFB internal constants.
It should be noted that the only major differences between TXT L MDD V52 and
TXT L MDD V5 are the recognition of the OFB internal constants and a new icon entry screen.
Compatibility rules
• XTEL-MOD tool reference TXT L MDD V52 is compatible with the X-TEL V5 and V52, and MINI X-TEL V5 and V52 Software Workshops.
• The upward compatibility rule is respected. A module base created with XTEL-MOD
V4, V42 or V5 can be reused, in a manner transparent to the user, by the XTEL-MOD tool reference TXT L MDD V52.

Defining a Program Module
PL7 programs are designed to support the saving of application program source files.
The program modules are formed with these application program source files. At present only PL7-3 supports this function.
A program module is a set of files which were developed in the various PL7-3 function programs and stored under one name. They form a coherent, known, documented and tested program element.

E
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1.2-2 Program Module Criteria
Criteria are additional information specific to a program module. They characterize a module and support sort functions, speeding access to the program module.
Two criteria are fixed : Date of creation or of the last update
User version level number.
Five criteria are available to the user. Each criterion can have up to eight characters.
The evolution index is updated in the usual way under OS/2, as soon as any of its parameters are changed.

1.3
Defining a Macro-module
_______________________________________________________________________________________
A macro-module is a set of commands concerning a given functional entity.
B database, with which are associated a coherent file of all the symbols and a macromodule identification sheet.
If the station is V5 level a graphic representation or "icon" can also be associated with the macro-module.
E
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1.3-1 Building a Macro-module
A macro-module corresponds to a part of the automated system managed as a whole and composed of a coherent set of program modules.
In a macro-module, there is no duplication of the modules of the program module library database, but only management of the references to the modules concerned.

1.4-2 Project Field
The program is part of the environment for the whole project.
At project level the create, modify or use actions affecting a program module or
macro-module are inhibited, as they use data such as the source files that are stored in the station space.
B
XTEL-MOD is designed primarily to enable the user to access various program module library databases, in order to review their contents without having to go through all of the file storage levels.
In addition to the program module management functions, XTEL-MOD lets the user work with multiple program module libraries (or databases).
XTEL-MOD offers three levels : System library
Project library
External library.
E

1.5
Program Module Library Databases
________________________________________________________________________________________
XTEL-MOD can access three different program module library databases which are managed by the X-TEL Software Workshop user.
Program modules in the same program module library are stored in the same directory.
The total number of program modules allowed in the same library is limited to 2000. All component files of a module take the same name as the program module.
XTEL-MOD provides information on the library by displaying a complete list of its component modules. The criteria for each module enable the user to select only part of the library using its built-in sort functions.

1.5-1 Main Database
This program module library can be accessed by all of the projects developed on any one of the logical drives.
In this case, program modules are stored in the :\XPROSYS\mod\pl7_3 directory. The file which contains the full list of modules is main .dir.
Regardless of whether XTEL-MOD is invoked at station or at project level, it displays a list of program modules stored in a user transparent manner.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1.5-2 Project Database
As its name indicates, this type of module database is assigned to a project. It is accessible to all V2/V3/V4/V5 level multifunction PLC stations in the project. For example, in the "factory" project the directory containing the program module library is
:\XPROPRJ\factory\mod\PL7-3. The list of modules is stored in the project.dir. file.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1.5-3 External Database
External implies a program module data database that is external to the project or the hard disk of the X-TEL Software Workshop workstation.
This step is required when transferring program modules between workstations or between volumes.

Creating a program module requires entry of its name as well as the source files that compose it. Entering the criteria and identification sheet is optional. When the program module is generated, XTEL-MOD performs the following operations :
• Checks that the program module does not already exist in the selected library
• For a V4 station, purges the .SCY file - only the symbols used in the source program file are retained
• Reads the program module symbols in the station symbol database for a V5 station
• Sorts the .CST file if this option is selected. Only the constants used in the source program file are retained.
• Purges the .COM file - only the comments used in the source program file are retained.
In the case of a system application comments file (V4 only), XTEL-MOD ensures the correspondence of the comments, the name of the source program file forming the module, and its address which is stored in the .MOD file
• Program module creation : all module component files are renamed (with the new program module name). Finally, the module library is updated with the version number set to V0.

1.6-3 Modify a Program Module
The modify action is designed to enable the user to update a program module which is already present in the program module library. It changes the module :
• Name
• Component files
• Criteria.
After modification, module generation is performed in the same way as the creation of a new module.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1.6-4 View a Program Module
The user can view a program module to refer to its various components. XTEL-MOD permits editing of the contents of the various files that comprise the program module and thus checks that the selected program module is the one required :
• Edit source files : Literal, Ladder and with Grafcet files, display the program layout, and the contents of transitions and actions
• Edit symbol, constant, OFB internal constant, and comment files, the
identification sheet, the list of program modules used in the current station (.MOD
file), and the command file of the current station (.MCR file) for V4 stations, the
command file of the current station (STATION.M5M) for V5 stations.

Creating a macro-module requires the user to enter the name of the macro-module to be created and to select the program modules that it will contain. Entering the criteria, the identification sheet and the icon is optional.
The identification sheet is similar to that for the program modules and it is entered in the same way.
Entering the icon (V5 station) requires the definition of 3 lists of variables : input variables, internal variables and output variables of the macro-module.
During the generation of the macro-module, XTEL-MOD performs the following operations :
• Merging of the symbol tables of the various program modules so as to create the main table of the macro-module. During the merging operation, if there is an inconsistency between the various tables, creation of the macro-module is interrupted. Great care should therefore be taken during the construction of program modules in order to avoid errors.
• Creation of the macro-module : the main table of symbols of the macro-module is given the name of the macro-module and the macro-module database is updated with initialization of the version number to V0.
1.7-3 Modify a Macro-module
The modify function is used to update a macro-module that is already present in the selected database. It allows the following to be changed :
• The name
• The component modules
• The criteria
• The identification sheet
• The icon (V5 station only)
After modification, the generation of the macro-module takes place in the same way as during the creation of a macro-module.

1.7-6 Use a Macro-module
This function makes a PL7-3 entity correspond to each program module in the macromodule, according to the same principle as the Use a module command, and then :
• Copies the source files of each program module composing the macro-module into the PL7-3 "MOD" field
• Proposes the renaming of the objects and symbols of the macro-module while ensuring the coherence of the station symbol database.
For the transfer to take effect, the user must specify the name of each program module used, as well as the PL7-3 target entity (MAST: SR or MAIN, PRL, POST CHART or
XM-IT FAST AUXi: SR or MAIN).
Before using a macro-module, XTEL-MOD proposes an adaptation of the macromodule to integrate it into its new environment.
It is possible to replace :
• Objects (bits, words, constants)
• Symbols in strings of symbols
• Labels and enrich the station symbol database (SDB).
XTEL-MOD checks the coherence of the user request :
• Checks the existence of each program module in the current database
• Replaces variables which were redefined at the level of the program file (.LIT, .LAD,

• Copies each program module to the station field
• Modifies program comments if required, to take into account the copy address in the station field
• For V4 stations, updates the .MOD and .MCR files in the PL7-3 program of the target station
• For V5 stations, updates the .M5M file in the PL7-3 program of the target station.

1.7-8 Transfer a Macro-module
This command can apply to a single macro-module, a series of macro-modules or all the macro-modules in the current database.
The user is placed in the source database and must define a target database.
Transferring a macro-module consists of transferring :
• All the program modules contained in the macro-module
• All the information attached to the macro-module : criteria, references to its component modules.
When copying macro-modules, XTEL-MOD first checks that each program module and macro-module does not already exist in the target database, and then performs the copy.

Terminology Reminder
• Program module : A module created with XTEL-MOD, which comprises one or more
B
• Macro-module : A functional entity composed of one or more program modules.
• PL7-3 program module : An entity of the PL7-3 program structure (eg : preliminary program in sequential processing, master task subroutine, etc).
• Source file : A PL7-3 file generated by a Write command or one which can be restored by a Read command from the PL7-3 application. These files are located in the
PL7_3\MOD directory of the current station.
Modular construction
Modular application construction in the X-TEL Software Workshop is organized around a library module database whose modules can be reused in the various stations of one project (project database) or in the stations of a number of projects (main database) :
Creating a program module and a macro-module
The selected module database draws its contents from modules taken from PL7-3 applications. There are two phases in the creation of a program module :
1 Generation of source files in PL7-3 comprising the PL7-3 module with its associated comments, symbols and constants.
2 Creation of the program module in the module database using XTEL-MOD : this takes into account the program source files created in PL7-3 in order to form the program module which can be used in the project database or main database.
Macro-modules are created in XTEL-MOD after the creation of the program modules, subsets of the macro-module :
3 Association of the program modules created under XTEL-MOD in order to create a macro-module that can be used in the project database or main database.

Using program modules and macro-modules
The program modules and macro-modules in a program database can be reused in a different context. There are three phases in the use of a module or macro-module :
1 Using a program module or a macro-module from the XTEL-MOD module database in the target station : extraction of program module or macro-module source files from the database, and customizing these files for the individual station context. The source files modified in this way are transferred to the target station space.
2 Updating of the station database (SDB) by merging the references, symbols and comments.
3 Integration of source files into the PL7-3 application : acceptance by PL7-3 of the source files by automatic re-reading of all the files transferred.

Program Module Creation
2.2-1 Generating PL7-3 Source Files
The PL7-3 source file generation phase can be executed in two different ways, depending on the action being performed :
• Creation of source files for the standardization of a functional module
• Extraction of an existing application in order to generate source files.
First case, creation of source files :
1
For V4 stations only, establish the list of
PL7-3 modules to generate
2
Generate the PL7-3 PL7-3 program source files
3 Write the comments
E
4 Generate the constants source file
1 For V4 type stations only establish the list of PL7-3 modules (TSXV4 or
PMXV4). This list enables the user to define the name of the program source file corresponding to each PL7-3 program module to be generated.
The LIST OF MODULES screen can be accessed from the PROGRAM ADDRESS
SELECTION screen (See the PL7-3 Operating Modes manual, Divider C,
Section 7.1-2).
Enter the name of each module in the list and save it in the MOD field using the
WRITE command and give it the same name as the station. Once the file is generated, it takes a .MOD extension.
If the user wants to create, for example, the functional entity “LIFT”, give the various subsets a name which associates this function with the PL7-3 module (eg.
PRL_LIFT, POST_LIFT, XM_LIFT).
2 / 5
E
___________________________________________________________________________
2 Enter each PL7-3 module and generate the program source files using the
WRITE command which can be accessed in each programming language. See the detailed description of the procedure in the PL7-3 Operating Modes manual :
. Literal : Divider E, Section 9.2-2
B
. Grafcet : Divider C, Section 7.2-3.
For V4 type stations, assign the source files the same name as the corresponding
PL7-3 program modules (defined in the PL7-3 program module list : [MODULE]
[WRITE]). For example PRL, LIFT, etc.
The program source files are automatically saved in the PL7_3\MOD directory, with the following extensions :
. LIT for a Literal program
. LAD for a Ladder program
. GR7 for a Grafcet program.
With Grafcet, the Grafcet source file can be saved with or without its actions and transitions. The macro-steps linked to the Grafcet chart are not saved.
3 The comment source files which are specific to each program source file must be entered in the MOD field.
From PL7-3 program modules, pressing <Alt> <C> lets the user enter comments directly into the MOD field.
In the case of V4 type stations each comment file automatically takes the name of the corresponding program source file (comment files have a .COM extension).
4 Enter the constants and generate the constants source file of the application
(See the PL7-3 Operating Modes manual, Divider F, Section 10.2-3).
It is not necessary to generate constants files specific to each program source file, as XTEL-MOD can sort the constants which are used in each module. The constant source file takes a .CST extension.
.OBC files and the .OBM file, which take the OFB internal constants into account, are generated automatically when the program source file is generated (WRITE command with OBC option).
Note : Using the [WRITE] [STR.NAME] [DIR] commands in the LIST OF MODULES screen displays a list of all source files generated in the MOD field.

5
Fill-in the list of modules generated from be accessed in each of the programming languages. For a detailed description of the procedure, see the PL7-3 Operating Modes manual :
• Literal : Divider E, Section 9.2-2
• Ladder : Divider D, Section 8.2-2
• Grafcet : Divider C, Section 7.2-3.
The program source files are automatically saved in the PL7_3\MOD directory, with the following extensions :
• LIT for a Literal program
• LAD for a Ladder program
• GR7 for a Grafcet program.
In the case of Grafcet programs, the Grafcet source file can be stored with or without the actions and transitions. Macro-steps linked to the Grafcet chart are not saved.
2 The constants source file of the application is generated by the PL7-3 constant mode WRITE command (see the PL7-3 Operating Modes manual, Divider F,
Section 10.2-3).
XTEL-MOD sorts the constants.

[MODULE] also accesses the LIST OF MODULES screen.
Read the list of modules available :
[READ] [STR.NAME] [DIR] <ENTER> <ENTER> ([MODE] AUTO) <ENTER>
Select the various modules in succession and check whether they have a comment.
If no list of modules is displayed or if no comment was entered for the various modules in the MOD field, then the comments are in the APPLI field.
Comments in the MOD field
No operation is required. It is recommended however that the comment source files take the same names as the program files to which they are linked.
Comments in the APPLI field
The main application comments file (with the .COM extension) must be moved from the APPLI field to the MOD field using the IMPORT command (See the PL7-3
Operating Modes manual, Divider C, Section 7.2).
The comments are sorted by XTEL-MOD to link them to the various program modules. This sorting is performed at the level of the labels.
In the case of V5 stations the comments source files are automatically generated in the MOD field.
4 In the case of V4 stations only, the list of modules enables the user to assign to each PL7-3 program module the name of the corresponding program source file.
The LIST OF MODULES screen is accessed from the SELECT PROGRAM
ADDRESS screen (see "PL7-3 Operating Modes", Divider C, Section 7.1-2).
Enter each of the elements in this table and save the list in the MOD field using the
WRITE command. Give it the same name as the station (once generated, this file will have a .MOD extension).
Entering this list is required by XTEL-MOD, especially for sorting comments.
.OBC files and the .OBM file, which take the OFB internal constants into account, are generated automatically when the program source file is generated (WRITE command with OBC option).
Note : The [WRITE] [STR.NAME] and [DIR] commands accessible from the LIST OF
MODULES screen, enable all of the program source files generated in the MOD field to be displayed.

Notes
Selection of the program source files which form a program module is made easier if the user ensures that the various program source files have the same name.
In the case of a V4 station the Modules used item in the Use menu displays a list of the
PL7-3 program modules used to generate each program source file linked to it (modules are identified by their task/module address in the application).
For each OFB which contains internal constants and is used in the program source, an
.OBC file is generated with the same name as the OFB. The .OBM file is associated with the program source and contains the .OBC list.
The module .OBM file does not have the same syntax as the function .OBM file.

XTEL-MOD generates two files in parallel for the PL7-3 application :
• A file of modules used (.MOD) :
This file is the image of the modules used in the application and can be displayed by
PL7-3 and by XTEL-MOD.
• A command file (.MCR) :
This file is re-read by PL7-3 in order to construct the application and can be displayed only in XTEL-MOD.
Integrating program modules in PL7-3
XTEL-MOD proposes two options for integrating a program module in the PL7-3 application :
• The New module option : reading by deletion
The program module gives its name to the PL7-3 module and deletes the contents of the target PL7-3 module.
• The Merge module option : reading by merging
The contents of the program module are merged with the contents of the PL7-3 target module.
V5 stations
XTEL-MOD generates a command file (.M5M) for the PL7-3 application. This file is re-read by PL7-3 in order to generate the application and can be displayed by
XTEL-MOD (view "command file") and by PL7-3 (contents comprise the module selection screen in Program mode).

• Creation of a new module in the current database and copying and renaming of all its component files. The newly created module has version level 0.
• The symbols used in the program source are read in the station symbol database and are retained in an .SCY file.
• Building of an .OBM file containing the OFB internal constants used in the program source.
• If a comment file is selected, filtering is performed : only those symbols that are actually used in the associated program source file are retained. If the sorting cannot be performed automatically (list of PL7-3 modules not generated for a V4 station or a V5 station has no STATION.M5M file),
XTEL-MOD displays the "Purge comment file" dialog box that enables the user to enter the PL7-3 program address (task, module) of the corresponding source file.
• If the Sorting of constants option has been selected, filtering is performed.
Only the constants which are actually used in the associated program source file are retained.
Note
• The filtering of the comments file affects the PL7-3 program address (task, module) and the labels contained in the program source.
• The table of symbols relating to the module is sorted alphanumerically. If the table is too large, a message informs the user that the sorting cannot be performed (this has no effect on the rest of the operations).
• Sorting of constants : if the program module contains an OFB MSIT or MSITN EXEC, DO
