2 modes:

[User mode]: the [DMX RECORDER] can only play recorded chases/shows. Other functions are disabled;

[System mode]: full control over all the functions of the [DMX RECORDER]

Recorded shows/chases can run at a fixed speed or via audio control. (external audio signal or build in microphone)

An optional, wired [DMX RECORDER REMOTE] controller is available (order code : B05021).

Blackout function to cut the DMX output.

2x8 digit display for easy navigation in the menu.

Before you start using this unit, please check if t here’s no transportation damage. Should there be any, do not use the device and consult your dealer first.

Important: This device left our factory in perfect condition and well packaged. It is absolutely necessary for the user to strictly follow the safety instructions and warnings in this user manual. Any damage caused by mishandling is not subject to warranty. The dealer will not accept responsibility for any resulting defects or problems caused by disregarding this user manual.

Keep this booklet in a safe place for future consultation. If you sell the fixture, be sure to add this user manual.

To protect the environment, please try to recycle the packing material as much as possible.

CAUTION: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the top cover. No user-serviceable parts inside.

Refer servicing to qualified service personnel only.

The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol within the equilateral triangle is intended to alert the use or the presence of uninsulated “dangerous voltage” within the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock.

The exclamation point within the equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operation and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying this appliance.

The device is suitable for mounting on standard flammable surfaces. Standard flammable surfaces include building materials such as wood and wood-based materials more than 2mm thick.

To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture.

To avoid condensation to be formed inside, allow the unit to adapt to the surrounding temperatures when bringing it into a warm room after transport. Condense sometimes prevents the unit from working at full performance or may even cause damages.

This unit is for indoor use only.

• Don’t place metal objects or spill liquid inside the unit. No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on this appliance. Electric shock or malfunction may result. If a foreign object enters the unit, immediately disconnect the mains power.

No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the appliance.

• Don’t cover any ventilation openings as this may result in overheating.

Prevent use in dusty environments and clean the unit regularly.

Keep the unit away from children.

Inexperienced persons should not operate this device.

Maximum save ambient temperature is 40 °C. Don’t use this unit at higher ambient temperatures.

Always unplug the unit when it is not used for a longer time or before you start servicing.

The electrical installation should be carried out by qualified personal only, according to the regulations for electrical and mechanical safety in your country.

Check that the available voltage is not higher than the one stated on the rear panel of the unit.

The socket inlet shall remain operable for disconnection from the mains.

The power cord should always be in perfect condition: switch the unit immediately off when the power cord is squashed or damaged. It must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard

Never let the power-cord come into contact with other cables!

In order to avoid a hazard, the unit shall only be used with the AC-adaptor delivered with it. If the ACadaptor is damaged, a same model adaptor shall be used only.

In order to prevent electric shock, do not open the cover. Apart from the mains fuse there are no user serviceable parts inside.

Never repair a fuse or bypass the fuse holder. Always replace a damaged fuse with a fuse of the same type and electrical specifications!

In the event of serious operating problems, stop using the appliance and contact your dealer immediately.

Please use the original packing when the device is to be transported.

Due to safety reasons it is prohibited to make unauthorized modifications to the unit.

FUNCTIONS

USER MANUAL

1. USB CONNECTOR: used to save the chases on or load from a memory stick.

2. DISPLAY: shows the menu with the different options.

3. DISPLAY MODE BUTTONS [MENU-UP-DOWN-ENTER] : use these buttons to select the needed option in the menu

[MENU]: use this button to move forward in the menu to the wanted option.

[UP]: use this button to increase the value in the selected option.

[DOWN]: use this button to decrease the value in the selected option.

[ENTER]: use this button to select the desired option.

4. [CHASE] BUTTONS (1-8): used to select the desired memory bank to store or play a show.

5. [SPEED +/-] BUTTONS: used to increase (+) or decrease (-) the speed of the show that is running.

6. [PLAY-STOP-RECORD-BLACK OUT] BUTTONS: use these buttons to select the needed mode.

[PLAY]: use this button to start running the selected show [CHASE] (1-8).

[STOP]: use this button to stop running or recording a show [CHASE] (1-8).

[RECORD]: use this button to start recording a show into a selected [CHASE].

[BLACK OUT]: use this button to cut the DMX output.

7. ON/OFF SWITCH: used to turn on and off the [DMX RECORDER].

8. MAINS INPUT: with IEC14 socket and integrated fuse holder, connect the supplied mains cable here.

9. [DMX OUT]: 3p XLR female connector used to connect all kinds of DMX-fixtures.

10. [DMX OUT]: used to connect all kinds of DMX-fixtures by means of a RJ45 connector.

11. [RS232]: D-Sub 9p connector for connecting the unit by means of a serial data cable. (see also RS232

INFORMATION)

12. [REMOTE CONTROL]: used to connect the optional DMX RECORDER REMOTE (order code : B05021)

13. [AUDIO]: connect an audio signal from your sound system here by means of an audio-cable (optional).

14. Trimming potentiometer : used to adjust the sensitivity of the inserted audio signal.

15. [AUDIO/MIC]: switch to select the audio input source. a. [AUDIO] : external audio source connected to the [AUDIO] input (13). b. [MIC] : build-in microphone [MIC] (16).

16. [MIC]: build-in microphone.

17. Trimming potentiometer : used to adjust the sensitivity of the build-in microphone.

18. [UPDATE]: This micro USB connector can only be used for updating the internal firmware. Do NOT put in a power adapter nor any other device as this will cause damage to the internal electronics.

19. [DMX IN]: 3p XLR male connector used to connect a DMX controller.

CONNECTIONS

DMX OUTPUT-CONNECTION

Simply connect the DMX-output (9) or (10) of the [DMX RECORDER] to the fixtures you want to run a show on.

DMX INPUT-CONNECTION

Simply connect a DMX controller to the DMX-input (19) of the [DMX RECORDER] by means of a DMX cable or a good quality balanced audio cable with XLR 3p connectors.

CONNECTING 2 OR MORE [DMX RECORDERS] TOGETHER

Up to 8 [DMX RECORDERS] can be connected together by means of a DMX cable from the DMX output of the first to the input of the second, DMX output of the second to the DMX input of the third and so on …

The addressing of the connected [DMX RECORDERS] has to be done in the menu by choosing [1. Unit ID] and then choosing the corresponding UID (UID 001 …008).

HOW TO USE

The [DMX RECORDER] can be used in 2 modes : [SYSTEM MODE] and [USER MODE].

Perform these steps to change the mode:

- Turn off the [DMX RECORDER]

- Press the buttons [MENU] and [ENTER] (3) simultaneously and turn on the [DMX RECORDER] with the ON/OFF switch (7).

SYSTEM MODE

In this mode you have full control over all the functions of the [DMX RECORDER].

USER MODE

In this mode you can only play the chases which are saved in the [DMX RECORDER]. All other functions are disabled.

RECORD CHASE(S)

The first thing to do before you can start recording chases in the [DMX RECORDER] is to program your show(s) on a DMX console. Be sure that the DMX console is connected to the [DMX RECORDER]. See chapter Connections.

Press the [RECORD] button (6) for 2s to prepare the [DMX RECORDER] for recording.

Start the programmed show on the DMX console and, at the same time, press the [CHASE] button (4) where you want to store it (1-8).

Press the [STOP] button (4) to stop the recording.

Remark: depending on the number of used DMX channels and the size of the show, up to 5 minutes can be recorded in each chase.

PLAY CHASE(S)

Before you can play chases from the [DMX RECORDER] you first have to record one or more shows in the different chases (1-8). SEE chapter RECORD CHASE(S).

Press the button(s) (4) of the chase(s) you want to play. You can select more than 1 chase at the same time. The selected chases will be played one by one or simultaneously depending on the selected play mode. ([Play Mode – Mode cycle] – [Play Mode – Mode multi] – [Play Mode – Mode single])

You can also select the way a chase has to run : automatic or music controlled.

([Play Mode – Mode cycle – auto/music] – [Play Mode – Mode multi – auto/music] – [Play Mode – Mode single – auto/music])

Press the button [PLAY] (6). The selected chase(s) will start running.

Press the [SPEED +/-] buttons (5) if you want to increase or decrease the speed of the show.

Press the [STOP] button (4) to stop running the show.

Press the [BLACK OUT] button (4) to cut the DMX output to the fixtures. The show keeps running but will not be sent to the output. Pressing the [BLACK OUT] button (4) a second time will de-activate this function.

SAVE CHASE(S) TO A USB MEMORY STICK

First put a formatted (FAT 32) USB memory stick into the USB connector (1).

There are 2 ways of saving the chases to a USB memory stick.

Each chase individually. o Select the option [5.Save to USB] in the menu by pressing the [MENU] button (3). o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Press the [UP] or [DOWN] button (3) to select the chase to save. o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Select [Yes] by pressing the [ENTER] button (3).

All chases together (full backup). o Select the option [5.Save to USB] in the menu by pressing the [MENU] button (3) o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Press the [UP] or [DOWN] (3) to select [FULL Backup]. o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Select [Yes] by pressing the [ENTER] button (3).

LOAD CHASE(S) FROM A USB MEMORY STICK

First put the USB memory stick with the saved chases into the USB connector (1).

There are 2 ways of loading chases from a USB memory stick.

Each chase individually. o Select the option [6.Load from USB] in the menu by pressing the [MENU] button (3). o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Press the [UP] or [DOWN] button (3) to select the chase to load. o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Select [Yes] by pressing the [ENTER] button (3).

All chases together o Select the option [6.Load from USB] in the menu by pressing the [MENU] button (3) o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Press the [UP] or [DOWN] (3) to select [FULL Backup]. o Press the [ENTER] button (3) to confirm. o Select [Yes] by pressing the [ENTER] button (3).

MAINTENANCE

Make sure the area below the installation place is free from unwanted persons during servicing.

Switch off the unit, unplug the mains cable and wait until the unit is cooled down.

During inspection the following points should be checked:

All screws used for installing the device and any of its parts should be tightly fastened and may not be corroded.

Housings, fixations and installations spots (ceiling, truss, suspensions) should be totally free from any deformation.

When an optical lens is visibly damaged due to cracks or deep scratches, it must be replaced.

The mains cables must be in impeccable condition and should be replaced immediately when even a small problem is detected.

In order to protect the device from overheat the cooling fans (if any) and ventilation openings should be cleaned monthly.

The interior of the device should be cleaned annually using a vacuum cleaner or air-jet.

The cleaning of internal and external optical lenses and/or mirrors must be carried out periodically to optimize light output. Cleaning frequency depends on the environment in which the fixture operates: damp, smoky or particularly dirty surroundings can cau se greater accumulation of dirt on the unit’s optics.

Clean with a soft cloth using normal glass cleaning products.

Always dry the parts carefully.

Clean the external optics at least once every 30 days.

Clean the internal optics at least every 90 days.

Attention: We strongly recommend internal cleaning to be carried out by qualified personnel!
