TYPES
OF VALVE
CONNECTIONS
THREADED
For use with iron pipe, copper, PVC, CPVC.
A connection is made by threading an adapter or pipe into a valve. Thread seal tape is applied to iron pipe threads before installing valve.
COMPRESSION
For use with copper only.
A connection is made without the use of solder. As the nut is tightened it compresses the washer around the tubing.
SWEAT
For use with copper
(CxC or sweat).
A connection is made by heating the pipe and fitting and melting solder to seal any gaps and permanently join each surface.
SLIP
For use with
PVC and CPVC.
A connection is made by slipping the valve onto the pipe and glued in place.
Always check local building codes before starting any project.
