Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games

Photosensitive seizures

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games.

Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms— children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions:

Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued.

If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

ESRB Game Ratings

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ratings are designed to provide consumers, especially parents, with concise, impartial guidance about the ageappropriateness and content of computer and video games. This information can help consumers make informed purchase decisions about which games they deem suitable for their children and families.

ESRB ratings have two equal parts:

Rating Symbols suggest age appropriateness for the game. These symbols appear on the front of virtually every game box available for retail sale or rental in the United States and Canada.

Content Descriptors indicate elements in a game that may have triggered a particular rating and/or may be of interest or concern. The descriptors appear on the back of the box next to the rating symbol.

Bad Company intel

Welcome to the 222nd Army battalion, B-Company. This is where the Army rakes together all the insubordinates, hellraisers, and troublemakers that won’t fit in any other unit. When the Rangers and

Deltas are too expensive to waste, these guys are the first ones in and last to leave!

They’re called “Bad Company”; a mismatched bunch of rejects selected to serve their country as cannon fodder. This isn’t the kind of outfit a lot of soldiers would join voluntarily. Getting transferred to “the B” is a punishment and a way for the generals to put all their rotten eggs in one basket.

CampaiGns sinGle player

Battlefield: Bad Company follows a wayward band of ordinary soldiers who decide that sometimes the gratitude of a nation just isn’t enough. Play as Preston Marlowe in a story-driven campaign across enemy territory. Be daring and innovative as you tackle challenges in unexpected “Battlefield-style” ways.

Now meet the man whose fate you control and his teammates!

preSton Marlowe (You)

“I’m Preston Marlowe. You know, when I grew up all I ever wanted to be was a soldier. Runs in the family, I guess. My dad was in Vietnam. My grandfather fought the Nazis. Me, I just couldn’t wait to get out there and fight for truth, justice, and the American way.

“The reality of life in the Army didn’t really hit me until they shipped us to Europe. And as it turned out, war can be pretty boring (at least when you’re stuck at a base in the middle of nowhere waiting for orders). I had to do something to distract myself, right? And if I had landed that chopper just a few yards to the left nobody would even have noticed.

Sarge (Squad leader)

“Sergeant Samuel D. Redford reporting for duty. They tell me I’m the first soldier ever to be transferred to Bad Company on my own request. Doesn’t surprise me. This outfit has the highest mortality rate in the Army. We’re just target practice for the enemy, really.

“Believe me, I know I’m playing against the odds. But if the deal I made can get me out of this damned war, then it’s worth the risk. You know, I used to love the Army. I was proud to serve my country. Not any more. A couple weeks more, and I’m out of here. The only things I’m planning to fight then are marlin and bluefin tuna.”

Sweetwater (teChniCal and CoMMuniCationS

SpeCialiSt)

“My name is Private Terrence Sweetwater. I don’t mind telling you that all this soldiering crap really freaks me out. I’m not cut out for this. An Army tour seemed like an easy way to get the scholarship I needed. But with my skills and knowledge I figured I wouldn’t have to do any actual fighting.

“Turns out I figured wrong, ‘cause here I am in Bad Company. And, boy, did they get that name right!

In fact, the company is so bad that sometimes I think I’m more likely to get killed by my own squad than by the enemy. That kinda sucks. But still, we do get some good toys. Did you see that new laser designator? Pretty cool, huh?”

haggard (exploSiVeS expert)

“Hey, Haggard here. Don’t let the rugged handsome looks fool you. I’m just your average, normal G.I., really. I’m a great people person. And when they say that folks tend to get killed around me, that’s just not true. Well, I mean, we’re at war, you know!

“So, what else? I enjoy fine food, especially beer and beef jerky. Also, I like blowing stuff up.

Back home everyone was sort of giving me a hard time about that, but—in the Army—they actually want you to blow stuff up, so I fit right in. OK, looking back, that thing with the Officers’ latrine and the claymores was maybe a mistake. But, still, it blew up real nice!” note: To view your objectives, press  to access the pause menu.

multiplayer

Battlefield: Bad Company features the all new, objective-based multiplayer game mode, Gold

Rush, supporting 24 players online. Play as attackers and defenders and make full use of the tactical destruction as well as the unique vehicle experience that can only be experienced in

Battlefield: Bad Company.

Gold rush

Attackers The main objective for attackers is to destroy all gold crates. Destroying two gold crates results in the destruction of the base and advances your team to the next base. Attackers lose if they run out of lives.

Defenders Protect bases housing the gold and bring the attackers’ lives to zero.

Losing two gold crates results in getting pushed back. If all bases have been laid to waste, the defenders lose.

note: Attackers gain reinforcements (extra lives) by destroying gold crates.

hints and tips

Bright blue nametags are your squad mates that you can spawn from and communicate to via headset. Make good use of them and you will be powerful!

Crouching makes you a smaller target for the enemy; use this to evade incoming bullets.

Be on the look-out for ammo crates using your mini-map or simply walk over a dropped kit for a quick refill.

Look for vehicles that have been tagged with tracer darts (Specialist Kit); Use rockets

(Demolitions Kit) on tagged vehicles, while zoomed in, for a locked-on, guided hit.

Destroy bridges to disrupt the enemy’s advancing armored divisions.

Use your focused zoom to give you a more accurate shot and add crouching for an even better shot.

Take down a powerful enemy and take his weapons kit; there might be some unique weapons for you to use.

If your frontal tactics are failing, try going stealth; sneaking around the enemy might be more effective in some cases.

Press  after placing C4 to deploy multiple charges.

Press  (down) to cycle radio channels when in a vehicle.

Lost? The red triangle(s) on your mini-map will always lead you to the next objective.

Make use of all the stationary weapons and vehicles you can find.

Got a vehicle? Don’t forget to look at the mini-map to see if anyone nearby needs a ride.

Play support! Use the mini-map to look for yellow crosses and wrenches. These are teammates that need a medic kit or a vehicle that needs repair. This will earn you a lot of points!

Find sniping positions by looking in buildings for blown out pieces of walls or new lines of sight from fallen trees and foliage.

Drive your tank straight into the side of a house, blast out the wall, and get to the enemy faster.

• Have you used Squad Invite? If not, you can invite up to three friends to join a server with you as a squad. Go to Multiplayer / Custom Match / Squad Invite.
