Below you will find brief information for communication set up Satfone, SDU Data-2, Data-3 Gateway, Ground Earth Station Aussaguel, EiconCard PC 1MB, ARTIC 429. This manual describes establishing a connection between an AES located at Brétigny and the Aussaguel GES located in the South of France via an INMARSAT satellite. This connection allows for both downlink and uplink communication between avionics and ground stations. The communication follows INMARSAT protocols defined in the INMARSAT System Definition Manual (SDM). This manual is only available for Satfone model equipment.

Frequently asked questions

The Data-3 Gateway is a device that provides the ISO 8208 InterWorking Function, as specified in Inmarsat SDM CN 56 Appendix 10. This function allows the Gateway to establish, maintain and clear virtual connections (VCs) and relay data between the satellite Sub-Network and X.25 network.

The Data-3 Gateway is needed to bridge the gap between the Avionics DTE, which communicates over X.25, and the SDU Data-2, which communicates using Data-2 protocols. This permits an end-to-end X.25 communication.

From the XPAD prompt on the PC “Avionics DTE”, type "call 0208091109606" to initiate a downlink connection through TRANSPAC. The numbers represent the country code (France) DNIC and the TRANSPAC address of the workstation at Brétigny, respectively.

Do not stop X.PAD from within Windows. It's a resident program, and unloading it while Windows is active can cause Windows to crash. At the DOS command prompt, type "ECXPAD STOP ALL" to stop the PAD.
