Description
Door Box, Algo 8028 SIP Doorphone
Use the Algo 8028 SIP Doorphone when a SIP Door Box is the right solution for monitoring an entrance door.
Requires software version 3.43 or higher.
Description
The Algo 8028 SIP Doorphone is a SIP-based Door Box used to monitor an entrance door and is an alternative to the traditional analog DSX Door Box (P/N 922450). The 8028 consists of a Door Station (Door Box), a Control
Unit, and a Power Supply. Just as with the analog DSX Door Box, a visitor at the door presses the doorphone call button (like a door bell) to send chime tones or ringing to all extensions programmed to receive them. To answer the chime or ringing, the called DSX extension user just lifts the handset. This lets the extension user talk to the visitor at the doorphone. The doorphone is convenient to have at a delivery entrance, for example. Company personnel don't have to monitor the delivery entrance; they just answer the doorphone instead.
The Algo 8028 SIP Doorphone installs as a VoIP extension programmed as a Door Box. It requires the installation of a VoIP Daughter Board (VOIPDB). The VOIPDB (P/N 1091044) provides 8 maximum VoIP gateway ports on DSX-40; 16 maximum on DSX-80/160. Available gateway ports may be restricted by licensing.
Note: The 8028 SIP Doorphone Installation and User Guide is an important companion document to the doorphone. Be sure you have read this manual before attempting to install the doorphone on DSX.
8028 SIP Doorphone Relays
The 8028 Control Unit offers a flexible relay configuration for controlling an auxiliary device such as an electric door strike. Any keyset extension that receives doorphone chimes or ringing can operate an 8028 Control Unit relay. Relay features include:
• Fail Locked (Fail Secure) electric door strike control. These types of strikes remain locked during a power failure.
•
Fail Unlocked (Fail Safe) electric door strike control. These strikes are unlocked during a power failure.
• Dry or wet relay contact applications.
In a dry application, relay contacts are unpowered and only provide contact closure to the connected device.
|
Algo 8028 SIP Doorphone
| 7
In a wet application, relay contacts are powered by the built-in 24 VDC/300mA auxiliary power supply or by a customer-provided auxiliary supply. In these applications, it is required that current flow through the contacts to the connected device for proper operation.
The maximum capacity of the 8028 Control Unit relays is 1A@30 VDC.
• Push to activate with timed deactivation. A keyset user presses a soft key to activate the relay, and the relay automatically deactivates after a programmed interval.
• Push to activate with push to deactivate operation. A keyset user presses a soft key to activate the relay, and then presses another soft key to deactivate it.
The equipment you connect to a control relay must be compatible with the applications and relay specifications stated in the 8028 SIP Doorphone Installation and User Guide.
8028 SIP Doorphone Alerts
The DSX system uses Ring Groups to control doorphone alerts. When a visitor at the door presses the doorphone call button, the doorphone will alert (chime or ring) all the extensions in the Ring Group to which the doorphone belongs. For example, if doorphone 402 and extensions 301 and 302 are in Ring Group 1, pressing the call button alerts 301 and 302.
If the DSX keyset being chimed or rang has a backlit display, the backlight will turn on when the chime begins.
During the chime, the keyset display will show:
Chime from xxx
(xxx = the doorphone extension number or name) to indicate which doorphone is calling. If the chime or ring is unanswered, the backlight will remain on for
Alert interval. See Programming for this Feature for more on the Door Alert interval.
8028 SIP Doorphone Connections
Basic Connections
|
Algo 8028 SIP Doorphone
| 8
Using the diagram above and your 8028 SIP Doorphone Installation and User Guide as references, connect the doorphone as follows:
1. Using a suitable length of 24AWG twisted pair cable, connect the red and green terminals on the supplied modular jack to the CTRL terminals on the Door Station. Polarity doesn't matter.
2. Using the supplied 6-Wire Modular Cable, connect the station jack on the modular jack to the station jack on the 8028 Control Unit.
3. Connect the Control Unit to the DSX LAN.
• Connect one end of a CAT5 Ethernet cable to an available switch port on the DSX LAN.
• Connect the other end of cable to the Ethernet jack on the 8028 Control Unit.
4. Plug the power supply input cable into the power input jack on the back of the Control Unit.
5. Plug the power supply power cord into a suitable 120VAC receptacle.

Verify the 8028 Control Unit Front Panel LEDs
After about 30 seconds, verify the Control Unit front panel LEDs. The LEDs will be different after you program the doorphone and the DSX.
Power: On steady then blinks off briefly every 2 seconds.
Telephone: Off.
Door Station: On steady.
Lock: Off
Get the 8028 Control Unit IP Address
You must have the 8028 Control Unit IP address in order to program the unit. If the 8028 Control Unit was at default when you plugged it in, you can have the unit speak the IP address (obtained via DHCP from the DSX
LAN) by pressing the doorphone call button. If not, you can do one of the following:
• Default the 8028 Control Unit following the instructions in the 8028 SIP Doorphone Installation and User
Guide.
• Download the 8028 Locator Tool from http://www.algosolutions.com/8028locator. It will scan your LAN and identify each 8028 Control Unit installed.
• Review the site's router log. To help with identification, the MAC address for the 8028 Control Unit is printed on a label affixed to the bottom of the unit.
Conditions and Defaults
Conditions
• None
Default Setting
• No SIP doorphones are enabled in programming.
Other Related Features
Features
• Call Coverage Keys
• Set up a Call Coverage key for the doorphone Ring Group to monitor Ring Group Ringing from the doorphone. This allows extensions that are not members of the Ring Group to answer ringing doorphone calls. After answering, extensions with Call Coverage keys to the doorphone Ring Group can also activate the relay. Call Coverage keys do not work with doorphone chimes.
• Call Forwarding
• An extension user cannot forward a call to a doorphone.
• Hotline
• Set up a Hotline key for the doorphone extension number to (1) call the doorphone and (2) provide a doorphone BLF. The Hotline key cannot answer doorphone calls.
• Message Waiting
• An extension user cannot leave a Message Waiting at a doorphone.
|

| 10
• Paging
• Door Box chimes 1-3 can broadcast over the External Paging speakers. An extension user can press
INTERCOM
and dial

to answer the chimes and use their soft keys to control the associated relay.
• Single Line Telephones
• Single line telephones can only receive Door Chime type 0 (normal ring). While connected to the doorphone, an SLT can hookflash to control the 8028 Control Unit relay.
• Transfer
• An extension user cannot Transfer a call to a doorphone.

VoIP Profile
1815: DTMF
1815-01: DTMF Type [System: > VoIP: > Profile (1-4): > Payload Types (1815): > DTMF Type]
DTMF Type sets the delivery method for DTMF for all SIP devices using the profile. There are three options:
•
Relay (RFC 2833): DTMF is relayed out-of-band (i.e., outside the audio stream) inside specially marked events in RTP packets. The packet contains details on the tone type, the tone gain, and the tone duration.
• In-band: DTMF tones are delivered within the audio stream.
• SIP Info: DTMF is relayed out-of-band using the SIP protocol (SIP INFO packets) and is independent of RTP or the audio stream.
