Sun Fire™ 6800 System Hold-down Kit This document describes how to update the doors and bolt your system to the floor. Install the Door Supports 1. Unlock and open the cabinet door. 2. Pull down the upper hinge pin, lift the door off the lower hinge pin and remove the door. Caution – Do not perform Step 3 in the computer room. Drilling the metal door in the computer room could lead to metal contamination. 3. Drill out the four rivets on the door that secure the door restraint bracket. Use a number 30 or 1/8-inch drill bit. 4. Secure the new door restraint bracket using the four POP rivets provided. See figure. The tool to secure the POP rivets is not provided. Note – This new door restraint provides both vertical and horizontal stability so the cabinet door doesn’t bend the upper and lower hinge brackets. 5. Reinstall the cabinet door. 6. Repeat Step 1 through Step 5 for the other cabinet door. Install the Hold Down Brackets 1. Determine mounting hole locations in the site floor. Optimize system location based on air flow and structural requirements of the operating site. Use the diagram below for hole location reference. Caution – Examine site blueprints to ensure that no pipes or wires run beneath the operating location. 2.11 in. (54.0 mm) 2.91 in. (74.0 mm) 16.88 in. (428.86 mm) 22.66 in. (575.66 mm) 0.51 in. (13.00 4 PL) 44.47 in. (1129.6 mm) 46.00 in. (1168.6 mm) 2. Move the system away from the operating location to provide space for drilling. Note – NEBS Zone 4 earthquake brackets have been tested by Sun Microsystems for installation directly to a concrete floor. As the performance of connection systems onto reinforced raised floors can vary, a qualified structural engineer should be consulted prior to installation on a raised floor. Note – Because each operating location is unique, the bolts that secure the NEBS Zone 4 earthquake bushing to the site floor must be supplied by personnel at the site. High strength bolts (or alloy threaded rod) with a maximum diameter of 1/2 inch can be used Note – Use a vacuum to prevent air contamination in the computer room while drilling. 3. Drill four mounting holes in the site floor in the locations determined in Step 1. 4. Move the system back to the operating location. 5. Release the catches and remove the kick-panels. The kick-panels snaps off. 6. Remove the inner and outer kick-panel brackets. Discard the outer kick-panel brackets. Save the bolts andd the inner kick-panel brackets for Step 7. 7. Place the NEBS Zone 4 earthquake bracket between the new outer kick-panel bracket and the inner kick-panel bracket and secure the assembly to the cabinet using the existing bolts. Note – It may be necessary to adjust the cabinet leveling pads to align the NEBS Zone 4 earthquake bracket. Inner kick-panel bracket NEBS Zone 4 earthquake bracket Outer kick-panel bracket 8. Repeat Step 6 and Step 7 for the remaining kick-panel brackets. Caution – Before you begin drilling examine site blueprints to ensure that no pipes or wires run beneath operating location. 9. Secure all four bracket assemblies to the floor. Use a vacuum to prevent air contamination in the computer room while securing the bracket assemblies. 10. Push the kick-panels back into place. The retainers will snap into place.
