Safety
General Safety Instructions
Warning: Read all the instructions carefully before use. Failure to adhere to the following
instructions may lead to electric shock, fire or serious injury. The term “power tool” in
the following text refers to your handheld mains operated or battery operated tool.
Save this instruction manual for future reference.
1) Work area safety
a) Keep the work area clean and well illuminated. Cluttered and poorly lit areas
invite accidents.
b) Do not use power tools in explosive environments, e.g. near flammable liquids,
gases or dust. Power tools generate sparks that can easily ignite dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and other bystanders away from the area where you are using
the power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose concentration and control.
2) Electrical safety
a) The plug of the power tool must fit correctly into the wall socket.
Never modify the plug in any way. Never use an adaptor plug together with
earthed power tools. The use of suitable wall sockets and plugs which have not
been modified in any way reduce the risk of electric shocks.
b) Avoid physical contact with earthed objects, such as pipes, radiators, ovens
or refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electrical shock if your body is earthed.
c) Do not expose the power tool to rain or other wet conditions. Water entering
a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the mains lead. Never use the lead to carry/drag the tool or to jerk
the plug from a wall socket. Keep the lead away from heat, oil, sharp edges and
moving parts. Damaged or tangled leads increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When using a power tool outdoors, use an extension lead that is suitable for
this purpose. The use of an extension lead designed for outdoor use decreases
the risk of electric shocks.
f) If for some reason you must use a power tool in a wet environment, always
connect it to the mains via an earth-fault circuit breaker such as an RCD (residual
current device). Use of an RCD significantly reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety
a) Pay attention to what you are doing and use common sense when using
power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of
drugs, alcohol or medication. One moment of inattention while using a power
tool may result in serious injury.
b) Use protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Using protective
clothing such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, helmets and ear defenders
when needed decreases the risk of injury.
c) Avoid accidental starts. Make sure that the power switch is set to OFF before
plugging the tool into a wall socket. Never carry a power tool with your finger on
the trigger and never connect the power tool to a wall socket when the switch is
set to ON, since it may result in injury.
d) Remove all service tools/keys before switching the power tool on. A service
tool left on a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This will allow
you to have more control in unexpected situations.
f) Wear suitable attire. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep hair,
clothes and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothes, jewellery or
long hair could become caught in moving parts.
g) If equipment for dust extraction or collection is available, make sure that it
is connected and used properly. The use of such equipment can significantly
reduce dust-related hazards.
4) Use and maintenance of the power tool
a) Do not force the power tool. Use a power tool designed for the work you are
about to perform. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer if used
at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Never use the power tool if the power switch does not switch the tool on
and off properly. Any power tool that cannot be controlled by the power switch is
dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Unplug the lead from the wall socket, before making any adjustments,
changing accessories or storing the power tool. These precautions reduce
the risk of the power tool starting unexpectedly.
d) Store any power tools that are not being used out of children’s reach. Do not
allow people who are unfamiliar with the tool or its functions to operate the tool.
Power tools can be dangerous if they fall into the hands of inexperienced users.
e) Maintaining power tools. Check for any incorrect settings, parts that catch,
broken parts or anything else which may cause the power tool to malfunction.
If something is damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.
Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting
edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and similar in accordance with these
instructions and in an appropriate way suitable for the type of power
tool used, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be
performed. Using the power tool for a purpose other than that for which it is
intended could result in a dangerous situation.

a) Repairs and service should only be performed by qualified tradesmen, and
only with original spare parts. This guarantees that the safety of the power tool
is maintained.

Specific Safety Instructions for High Speed Rotary Tools
General
• The power tool must only be operated by persons over the age of 16 years.
• This power tool must not be used in or around water.
• Always unplug the power tool from the wall socket before making any adjustments
or changing accessories.
Accessories
• Use only those accessories designed to be used with the power tool.
• Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when attaching accessories.
• Use only those accessories rated at speeds higher than the highest rated speed of
the power tool.
• Do not use accessories that are damaged, deformed or that vibrate.
• Handle and store grinding/cutting discs carefully so that they don’t splinter or split.
• The accessories must not be subjected to impacts, shocks or grease.
• Never use grinding discs with diameters greater than 32 mm (1 ¼″).
• Never use drill bits with diameters greater than 32 mm (1 ¼″).
• Never use a cutting disc/cut-off wheel for grinding with. Lateral pressure must
never be exerted on a cutting disc/cut-off wheel.
• Never use reducing rings or adaptors to attach grinding/cutting discs with large bores.

Before use
• Always make sure that the mains supply voltage corresponds to voltage marked
on the rating plate of the power tool.
• Do not work with materials containing asbestos.
• Tie or clamp the workpiece down if it is not held in place by its own weight.
• If an extension lead is used it should be fully unwound and be rated for at least 13 A.
• Safety glasses, gloves, ear protectors, face masks and safety shoes should all
be worn. An apron should also be worn if necessary.
• Wear a face mask when working with material producing toxic dust.
Check the make-up of the material before starting work.
• Make sure that the chuck is compatible with the shank of the accessory.
• Make sure that the power switch is set to OFF before plugging the power tool into
a wall socket.
During use
• Keep the mains lead away from rotating parts; trail the lead behind and away from
the power tool.
• Do not use the power tool if the mains lead is damaged; have the lead replaced by
a qualified electrician.
• Never engage the spindle lock while the spindle is rotating. Damage caused by
incorrect handling of the power tool is not covered by the guarantee.
• Keep hands away from rotating parts and accessories.
• The grinding of metal will produce sparks. Bystanders and combustible material
should therefore be kept away from the work area.
• Always keep the ventilation openings of the motor free from dust and debris.
• If an electrical or mechanical fault arises, the power tool must be switched off and
unplugged immediately.
After use
• The accessory will continue to rotate for a short while after the power tool has
been switched off.
• Before putting the power tool down, make sure that the motor is switched off and
that all parts have stopped moving.
• Never stop the tool rotating by applying a load to it after the motor has been turned off.

Operating instructions
Setting the speed
1. Set the speed using the [ + ] and [ – ]
buttons (6). The display shows 1/1000 of
the actual speed, e.g “18” will be shown
on the display when the actual speed of
rotation is set to 18 000 rpm.
Note: This power tool has a soft start
feature which increases and decreases
the speed of rotation gradually.
2. Switch the power tool on using the power
switch (8). The speed can then be
adjusted once the power tool is running.
3. Switch the power tool off using
the power switch.

Attaching accessories
Warning: Turn the power tool off and unplug it before attaching any accessories.
1. Press in the spindle lock button (4) and undo the collet chuck (1).
2. Insert an accessory into the chuck and then tighten the chuck. The collet (2) might
need to be changed depending on the shank diameter of the accessory.
Three collets are supplied: 1.6 mm, 2.4 mm and 3.2 mm.
3. When removing accessories it sometimes helps to push the accessory in a bit
before pulling it out. Note: Accessories can be hot just after they have been used;
wait until they have cooled down before removing them.

Different kinds of accessories
• The grinder is usually used with accessories which are permanently attached to
their shanks, but some accessories have a separate mandrel.
• The grinder can be used for a variety of tasks such as sanding, grinding, cutting,
polishing, engraving, deburring and drilling.
• The accessories can be rated for use at different maximum speeds; check which
maximum speed applies to the accessory you use.

1. Unscrew the nose collar (3). Pull the drive wire (12) a short way out of the flexible
drive shaft (11) and grip the end of it in the 3.2 mm collet chuck (1).

2. Screw the flexible shaft to the thread on
the power tool where the nose collar was.
3. Lock the spindle of the flexible drive shaft
by inserting the spindle lock pin (9) into
the hole on the nose.
4. Undo the flexible drive shaft collet chuck
(10) and insert the desired accessory
before tightening it again.

Care and maintenance
• Always keep the ventilation openings of the motor free of dust and debris.
• Clean the power tool as needed using a lightly moistened cloth and mild detergent
if necessary.
• Avoid using solvents and abrasive cleaning agents.
