Question: What is the difference between the Oculus Unity 4 Legacy Integration and the Oculus Utilities for
Unity 5? How do the differences between Unity 4 and 5 affect development?
Answer: Oculus supports VR development for both Unity 4 and Unity 5.
In Unity 4, you must import our Legacy Integration for Unity 4 unitypackage and add the supplied VR camera and player controller to your application to add Rift or Gear VR support.
Unity 5.1+ provides VR support for the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR, enabled by checking a box in Player
Settings. We offer a Utilities for Unity 5 unitypackage that includes useful scripts, scenes, and prefabs to assist development, but unlike Unity 4, it is not required to create a VR application.
All new developers should use Unity 5 and the optional Oculus Utilities package.
