TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Check the following chart before requesting service.

POWER

SYMPTOM

No power.

CAUSE

Although the power is on, the TV/VCR does not operate.

Cassette is not inserted.

T. REC button is depressed.

TV BROADCAST RECEPTION

TV station experiencing problems.

Picture control is not adjusted.

Possible local interference.

Poor or no picture.

Antenna (CATV) connector is not connected or possible local interference.

TV station experiencing problems.

Picture control is not adjusted.

Possible local interference.

Poor or no color.

Picture wobbles or drifts.

No CATV reception.

No reception above channel 13.

Poor or no sound.

Antenna (CATV) connector is not connected or possible local interference.

TV station experiencing problems.

Antenna (CATV) connector is not connected or possible local interference.

Cable TV channel is scrambled.

CATV connector is not connected.

TV/CATV Mode menu option is set to the TV mode.

Cable TV service interrupted.

TV/CATV Mode menu option is not set to the appropriate mode.

UHF antenna is not connected.

TV station experiencing problems.

Antenna (CATV) connector is not connected or possible local interference.

Possible local interference.

MUTING button is depressed.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

The AC power cord is not connected.

Connect the AC power cord to the

AC outlet.

Insert a video cassette.

Press the T.REC button.

Try another channel.

Check picture control adjustments.

Check for source of reception disturbance.

Check CATV connection or VHF/

UHF antenna, reposition or rotate antenna.

Try another channel.

UHF antenna, reposition or rotate antenna.

Check for source of reception disturbance.

Check that MUTING button has not been pressed.

SYMPTOM

TV shuts off.

Closed caption is not activated.

CAUSE

TV station stopped broadcasting.

Sleep timer is set.

TV station experiencing problems or program tuned is not closed caption.

TV signal is weak.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Tune new channel.

Set Sleep Timer to "0".

Try another channel.

The CAPTION button is not depressed.

Check CATV connection of VHF/

UHF antenna, reposition or rotate antenna.

Press the CAPTION button to turn on the closed caption.

RECORDING

TV recording does not work.

Timer recording does not work.

The video cassette's erase prevention tab is broken off.

The time is not set correctly.

The recording start/end time is not set correctly.

The T. REC button has not been pressed (The T.Rec indicator is not lit).

Place a piece of vinyl tape over the hole.

Reset the present time.

Reset the start/end time.

Press the T.REC button (The T.Rec

indicator is lit).

PLAYBACK

Noise bars appear on the screen.

Tape is old or worn.

Tracking adjustment is beyond range of automatic tracking circuit.

Video heads are dirty.

Replace the tape.

Adjust tracking manually using the

TRK + or – buttons on the remote control.

Clean the video heads.

REMOTE CONTROL

Remote control does not operate.

The remote control is not aimed at the sensor.

Distance is too far or too much light in the room.

There is an obstacle in the path of the beam.

The batteries are weak.

The batteries are not inserted correctly.

Aim the remote control at the remote sensor.

Operate within 15 feet or reduce the light of the room.

Clear the path of the beam.

Replace the batteries.

Insert correctly.
