Overview
Registration is the process of identifying an issued aXsGUARD Identifier to the VASCO Service Center for the issue of a license key to make the appliance fully operational. After installation, and before registration, the Configuration
Tool and Administration Web Interfaces are accessible for configuration and management, but no services, such as authentication, are available.
The registration procedure is supported by a Registration Wizard . The Registration Wizard is accessible through
the aXsGUARD Identifier Configuration Tool (see section 4 on the Administration Interfaces).
First time registration and certain exceptions to the first time registration are described in this chapter.
First Time Registration
The Registration Wizard supports a request-response dialog between the aXsGUARD Identifier and the VASCO
Service Center. The VASCO Service Center server handles registration, updating and remote support for the

message in the Configuration Tool advises the system administrator that the appliance is not registered, and provides a link to launch the Registration Wizard. The Registration Wizard requests a series of data, including:
IP address at the appliance site (auto detected) the administrator's email address aXsGUARD Identifier serial number and license number organization's contact details reseller name

The administrator needs to enter the requested data.

The Registration Wizard saves these data together with other system data and sends them to the VASCO
Service Center.

Registration without on-site Internet Access
An aXsGUARD Identifier is registered for a specific IP Address. Without the License referencing the correct IP address, services such as authentication are not operational. Registration to acquire the License requires an
Internet connection to the VASCO Service Center. If the network where the aXsGUARD Identifier will be operational has no Internet connection, the aXsGUARD Identifier needs to be temporarily located on a network with Internet connection to complete registration. The IP address to be entered during registration, however, is the IP Address where the aXsGUARD Identifier will be operational, not the temporary location.
After registration, the IP address of the aXsGUARD Identifier can be modified back to the IP address where it will be
operational, using manual configuration as explained in section 5.4
Change in IP Address
A change in IP address of the aXsGUARD Identifier renders the license invalid. The Configuration Tool and
Administration Web Interfaces are accessible for configuration and management, but no services, such as authentication, are available. The aXsGUARD Identifier automatically detects that the IP address has changed and that the license is no longer valid. A warning message is displayed in the Configuration Tool, with a link to the reregistration wizard.
In this case registration only requires the IP address to be changed. Information already entered during first time registration does not need to be re-entered.
The data is sent to the VASCO Service Center and a license key returned, which is automatically assigned to the
aXsGUARD Identifier, as the license key remains available for that IP address unless the server component is removed manually.
Upgrade from a DEMO to Commercial License
Upgrading from a demo to a commercial license requires re-registration with the Registration Wizard. The
'Commercial License' type needs to be specified during the Registration Wizard, and the license and serial numbers entered.
Information already entered during first time registration does not need to be re-entered.
The data is sent to the VASCO Service Center and a license key returned, which is automatically assigned to the aXsGUARD Identifier.
Replacement of aXsGUARD Identifier
In the rare event of an aXsGUARD Identifier failure, full first-time registration is required (see above).

Change of Customer Information
To change customer information in the aXsGUARD Identifier, administrators can initiate the re-registration wizard manually through the Configuration Tool, and make the necessary changes.
Information already entered during first time registration does not need to be re-entered.
Restoring a backup from another aXsGUARD Identifier
Restoring a backup created by the same appliance does not require re-registration, as the License is stored in the backup.
Restoring a backup created by a different appliance requires re-registration. The backup must first be restored, and then re-registration completed.
For practical guidance on restoring a backup, please refer to the aXsGUARD Identifier Installation Guide, 'Backup
manual.
