SECTION 8 - PLUMBING SYSTEMS
JAYCO TOWABLE
High altitude deration:
Operation of the water heater at high altitudes may require derating. If the water heater is not properly derated, lack of sufficient oxygen for combustion may produce improper burner operation. Pilot outage caused by burner lift-off or sooting from a yellow burner may occur, indicating the possibility of carbon monoxide. You may also notice a lack of efficiency in heating the water because of incomplete combustion of the burner at these higher altitudes.
Consult with the local propane company, your dealer or the water heater manufacturer for proper derating of the water heater. Change out of the orifice
(derating) should be done by the dealer or a qualified service agency.
NOTE: It is important that once the RV has returned to lower elevation (below
4500 feet) any high altitude deration or other adjustments be reversed for proper operation of the water heater.
Pressure & temperature (P&T) relief valve:
When cold water is heated in the water heater tank, the water pressure will rise.
For this reason, a Pressure and Temperature (P&T) relief valve is required for safety in all water heaters. It is normal for the P&T relief valve to release a small quantity of water during the heating cycle and does not indicate a defective P&T relief valve. One way to reduce the frequency of the water weeping or dripping from the P&T relief valve is to maintain an air pocket at the top of the water heater.
This air pocket will form in the tank by design; however, it will be reduced over time by the everyday use of your water heater (refer to the manufacturer’s manual); If the weeping persists, consult your dealer or a service agency authorized by the water heater manufacturer.

The City Water connection inlet is located in the Utility Center (Fig 8.10 or 8.11).
We recommend that you use a non-toxic drinking water hose dedicated only to supplying the RV with fresh water (to reduce the chance of contamination, prevent the non-toxic drinking water hose from coming into contact with the ground). Install the City Water connection inlet cap when the fresh water connection is not being used. Do not remove the Potable Water Label (Fig 8.4)
The fresh water connection should be unplugged (i.e., the non-toxic drinking water hose disconnected) when the RV is unattended for any amount of time.

JAYCO TOWABLE SECTION 8 - PLUMBING SYSTEMS
If something would happen to the water system, this may help limit water damage to a smaller area.
The Utility Center is located in an exterior compartment in the RV. Utility Centers are model dependent. There are two types of Utility Centers: With Valves &
Without Valves
Utility Center w/Valves: (Fig 8.10) May include the following:
•
Water Heater Bypass valves
•
Holding tank dump valves
•
Two valves used to select the following functions: City Fixtures, City Fill
Tank, Country Fill, Normal, Sanitize/Winterize Lines, and Sanitize Tank.
•
Water pump switch
•
Outside Shower Fixture with Shampoo Dispenser and Light
•
City Water Fill Inlet and a Sewer Tank Flusher Inlet
•
There will NOT be a Gravity Fill inlet on the outside of the RV
The following information explains the functions of the two Utility Center water valves in regards to the large label located on the Utility Center front panel. Refer to Fig 8.12 below, which is a representation of this label.
City Fixtures Position - This setting allows you to access water at all faucets using a pressurized external fresh potable water source (referred to as City
Water). (Set upper switch to 2, lower switch to 6)
City Tank Fill - This setting allows you to fill your fresh water tank using City
Water. (Set upper switch to 1, lower switch to 6)
Country Fill - This setting allows you to fill your fresh water tank (using the 12-volt water pump and a water container) when you do not have access to City Water.
(Set upper switch to 1, lower switch to 4)
Normal - If the RV is not connected to City Water, this setting allows you to pump water from the fresh water tank to all faucets using the 12-volt water pump.
(Set upper switch to 3, lower switch to 5)
Sanitize/Winterize Lines – This setting allows you to sanitize or winterize your fresh water system. (Set upper switch to 2, lower switch to 4)
Sanitize Tank – This setting allows you to sanitize the fresh water tank.
(Set upper switch to 1, lower switch to 4)
