Enable External HTTPS on a Domain

Enabling External HTTPS lets you tell Salesforce that your domain supports HTTPS. Use this option if you route your domain through your own server or content delivery network (CDN) account instead of routing it through Salesforce. If the External HTTPS option is disabled, Salesforce assumes the domain supports only HTTP.

This option is only for domains that use your own server or CDN to serve HTTPS.

You can enable External HTTPS on any domain that doesn’t point to the expected

yourdomain.your18characterOrgId.live.siteforce.com

CNAME target. This option isn’t available when your DNS domain points to the expected

yourdomain.your18characterOrgId.live.siteforce.com

When enabled and when the domain’s DNS record is not a CNAME that points to the live.siteforce.com

subdomain for that domain, Salesforce assumes that the domain supports secure connections.

When disabled or when the domain’s DNS record is a CNAME that points to the expected live.siteforce.com

subdomain for that domain, Salesforce assumes that the domain doesn’t support secure connections. The domain effectively becomes an HTTP-only domain in that configuration.

To enable External HTTPS on a domain, click Edit from the domain list page or from a domain’s detail page, and then select You serve

the domain over HTTPS, using your own CDN partner or your own hardware.

You can update an existing domain to this option, but you can’t choose this option when creating a domain. To use this option on a new domain, create the domain using another HTTPS option and then edit it.

If the domain for which you’re enabling External HTTPS has only non-community Site.com custom URLs, manually publish the affected

Site.com sites via the Site.com Studio to implement the changes. If at least one community site or Force.com site exists on the same domain as a non-community Site.com site, publishing the changes to enable External HTTPS is automatic on that domain.
